ah, just rewatched this so bad its good movie. Realized that since Pathfinder has introduced a variety of guns, Its got to be possible to build a character based on Ash, Bruce Campbells character.

Things the movie tells us:

1.)He has a double barreled shotgun, which he uses one handed often. Could be recreated as a blunderbuss or double barreled pistol.

2.) He has a gauntlet hand.

3.) looks like he has improved unarmed strike.

4.) near the end of the movie, he wears a breastplate, so probably has medium armor proficiency.

Any help for me? Thanks guys!

Awesome thread. I like it.

Ash also seems to have some pole-arms proficiency (the way he teaches the peasants) and can take quite a pounding (from the kung fu Zombie thing at the beginning) so I guess "Improved Toughness" ? Let's not forget the most important characteristic: gimme some sugar, babe (http://www.tvwavs.com/wavs/Army_of_Darkness/-/sugar.zip)! Can that be a "Dashing Swordsman" a-la-order of the stick. Gets a bonus when he utters some cool one-liner.

He's totally a Mysterious Stranger.

No, really.

polearm proficiency can be a spear either from simple weapon prof. (any class, basically) or actual polearms, as in from martial prof. Either way, it comes with most any class.

Mysterious Stranger... yeah, I can see it. Especially if you change "CHA" in all of the Mysterious Stranger abilities to "CHIN". Everyone knows thats Where Bruce Campbell's powers come from anyway.

EDIT: though straight gunslinger doesn't get med. armor proficiency.

Just want to say that Army of Darkness is not so bad it's good, but a B Horror movie, and that there is a difference. Actually it's more like a B action movie since there are very few scary images, but the difference is not tremendous.

Ash does have the best one liners so needs a decent charisma, and grit points and all that actually replicate him really well, so Gunslinger seems like the perfect choice.

right, gunslinger seems to be the way to go. I'm just not sure he is a straight gunslinger. Again, that medium armor prof.

secondly, I'm not certain on the feats and deeds. So any help in either of this areas would be helpful.

You could take gunslinger, but that would only be to trade a level for the proficiency. He would certainly have the Gunsmithing feat, as the movie shows him creating gunpowder.

Ash is an engineering student that works part time at the S-Mart. He's more of an Artificer, what with making a Chainsaw gauntlet after his hand turns evil and he cuts it off...I'll phrase that differently; after cutting his own hand off, he uses his remaining hand to modify a chansaw and attach it to the stump of his amputated limb.

There is also the gauntlet replacement hand, plus turning his car into a steam-powered zombie thresher. He has tech skills beyond firearm use.

A 3rd party Artificer/Gunslinger multiclass maybe?

Add on the Pain Taster prestige class. Refluffed from Drow Whip users, to someone driven insane from the Necronomicon. Hear me out, all of the class features except the whip bonuses make perfect sense for Ash. Either remove the whip bonuses or just replace them with a similar bonus to chainsaws or improved attacks and weaponry.

Like the resources very much...

since Pathfinder hasn't got an Artificer class... Perhaps some kind of alchemist? hm... conundrum.

3rd party Artificer (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/3rd-party-classes/adamant-entertainment/artificer) on the Pathfinder SRD.

They have a Weird Science ability that allows them to emulate minor magical effects with their inventions, plus they can craft items at higher levels.

Pain Taster (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/prestige-classes/other-paizo/n-r/pain-taster) can easily be refluffed. A combat prestige class that grants resistance to pain and blood loss, as well as DR.

Alternatively, some of the Ranger archetypes may be worth looking into

Trophy Hunter (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/ranger/archetypes/paizo---ranger-archetypes/trophy-hunter)

Skirmisher (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/ranger/archetypes/paizo---ranger-archetypes/skirmisher)

Trading out combat style, wild empathy and an animal companion might seem strange, but could be a method of gaining Undead as a Favoured Enemy, as well as a few other tricks.

Just a few ideas.

ah, just rewatched this so good its good movie.

Fixed that for you. :smallcool:

1.)He has a double barreled shotgun, which he uses one handed often. Could be recreated as a blunderbuss or double barreled pistol.
"Alright you Primitive Screwheads, listen up! You see this? This... is my BOOMSTICK! The twelve-gauge double-barreled Remington. S-Mart's top of the line. You can find this in the sporting goods department. That's right, this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Retails for about a hundred and nine, ninety-five. It's got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger. That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart. YOU GOT THAT!?"

Yeah, if doing "Ye Olde Guns-e", then Blunderbuss/musket would be my vote (but not double-barreled musket...not until that fix the distance...)

2.) He has a gauntlet hand.

I'm just going to leave this as "flavor".

4.) near the end of the movie, he wears a breastplate, so probably has medium armor proficiency.

Alternatively, some of the Ranger archetypes may be worth looking into

Trophy Hunter (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/ranger/archetypes/paizo---ranger-archetypes/trophy-hunter)

Skirmisher (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/ranger/archetypes/paizo---ranger-archetypes/skirmisher)

Trophy Hunter Ranger. 'Firearm Style' will let you go Mysterious Stranger AND keep Quick Clear, AND gets your Medium Armor prof. AND can take Favored Enemy Undead.
At LEAST 4 levels of Trophy Hunter to pick up Hunter's Aim (Shoot Touch-AC out to TWO range increments). Also, the High Skill points of Ranger help balance out the facts that A: Ash is quite skilled (in certain areas, baby), and B: Ash is a dumbass.

Might consider some levels of Cavalier for the Challenge ability "YO, She Bitch, lets go!", "Come get some"
A few of the Order's would work:
Order of the Seal must protect a place/thing from thieves and whatnot (choosing Thing>Necronomicon).
Order of the Tome, see 'Order of the Seal'.
Order of the Cockatrice, "A cavalier who belongs to this order serves only himself, working to further his own aims and increase his own prestige. Cavaliers of this order tend to be selfish and concerned only with personal goals and objectives." sounds about right...

I'd 'almost' suggest for him to be a Paladin, but the alignment restriction kills that idea. "Good, bad, I'm the guy with the gun."
He's not Evil, but he's not necessarily Good either. I also highly doubt his Lawfulness.

For PrC's, not many really fit, but there are 2 with possibilities.
Chevalier (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/prestige-classes/other-paizo/c-d/chevalier): It gets some 'Paladin' abilities (1/day Smite Evil, Aura of Courage), and it has some appropriately named 'Ash-like' abilities (Recklessness, Stubborn Mind).

The only other one was Horizon Walker (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/prestige-classes/other-paizo/e-h/horizon-walker). Granted, he's more of a time-traveler than a plane-traveler, but close enough. He can take Terrain Mastery to gain choice of:
Immunity to Exhaustion
No reduced speed in Medium Armor
DR 1/Adamantine (dude can take a beating)
Various +4 skill bonuses.
None of the Terrain Dominance abilities really stand-out/make sense, other than DR 2/Adamantine.

"Hail to the king, baby."
