So, my boyfriend asked me to create 4-6 pre-made characters of about level 5-7 for a one shot game this Friday for Geek Pride Day.

My question is this. What 6 character classes would you make for the one shot game? I want some iconic things(such as wizards and/or clerics), but I don't want power disparity between the casters and non-casters.

Most of the people that would be playing in this one shot game have already played D&D before, but there may be one or two people that have never played anything but a d10 or d6 system.

These are the classes I'm thinking of.

1. Elf Wizard or Warmage
2. Human Cleric or Favored Soul
3. Dwarf Crusader
4. Halfling Swordsage
5. Half-Elf Ranger
6. Gnome Druid or Spirit Shaman

Never heard of Geek Pride Day before. Huh.

Personally, I think I'd pick:
1. Changeling Wizard
2. Human Wildshape Mystic Ranger
3. Half-Elf Bard
4. Whisper Gnome Swordsage
5. Warforged Dragon Shaman
6. Human Dragonfire Adept or Halfling Warlock

That's a good list. I forgot about the Bard. I also really like the Dragonfire Adept and the Dragon Shaman. Hmmm, now I'm torn.

Needs more Bard, and drop the T1s obviously.

Possibly Sorceror ? Blasty with some utility perhaps ? Don't want to make it to OP and choose some interesting spells. Sorceror 7 is a lot more fun than Sorceror 5 mind.

It might be an idea to make more than 6 characters to give everyone a choice, or the last person will be stuck.

Could add a Rouge or a Beguiler perhaps ?

I think a 1 shot at 5th to 7th level you could still have tier 1 classes because they haven't totally eclipsed lower tier classes yet and people can still have fun with them. Plus if they're premade characters to can define what spells they have in their lists limiting their power.

For the sake of keeping things running smoothly I'd stick to core classes. If you start adding prestige classes that people aren't used to you'll end up spending to much time figuring out mechanics and it'll kill a one shot.

My fave level 7 builds, not for net power but for fun playing:

1. Gnome Illusionist 5/Master Specialist 2
2. Half-Orc Barbarian 2/Fighter 2/Warblade 3
3. Halfling Rogue 3/Swashbuckler 3/Swordsage 1
4. Human Cleric 6/Radiant Servant of Pelor 1
5. Mongrelfolk Crusader 7
6. Elven or Human Ranger 6/Beastmaster 1
Bonus:
7. Spellscale Bard 7
