I'm in the midst of building a human sorcerer for an upcoming Pathfinder campaign that will take place mostly in coastal regions, islands, and aboard a ship. I've chosen the Stormborn bloodline, and I plan to stick as close to that theme as possible—I will gladly give up effectiveness in and out of combat to get more stormy. The only major exception will be for spells related to the sea and to shipboard life, since I'm the ship's master. If it matters, we're starting at 3rd level.

The question: What are your favorite storm- or weather-related arcane spells? I can use anything in the PFSRD, as well as pretty much everything published in a D&D 3.5 book. I have no access to Dragon magazine, so I'd prefer not to see anything from that source.

Thanks!

Defenestrating Sphere! Wind control is stormy, right?

Pick up at least a couple of the various fog spells. The level 9 upgrade to the bloodline's Stormchild ability is downright mean when you combine it with Solid Fog - enemies are stuck inside and can't see out, but you can target them with your lightning just fine. It's like a personal tour of the inside of a lightning storm!

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I'll definitely see about including them in my repertoire.

A couple of the best spells, weather or not, are sleet storm and solid fog. Either obscuring mist or fog cloud is ok too, though I wouldn't prepare both. Lightning bolt is ok. Tiny hut will let you cast safely in stormy weather without needing concentration checks, and what's more useful even when it isn't stormy is that it provides total concealment for you and those around you too. It lasts 2 hours per caster level so keep it up 24 hours a day to save time (and possibly a concentration check) during combat. Levitate, fly and wall of ice are decent but only kind of fit the fluff.

A a couple fan feather tokens are a must have item for propelling your ship even when the winds are not in your favor. Any weather mage sailor who can't handle that task should be ashamed. A scroll or two of gust of wind is good when the day comes that you need to knock over a small enemy sailboat.
