Plenty of types of dwarves, plenty of them good depending on the situation. Why and what do you need to know them for?

Edit: Frost, Gray(duergar), lesser duergar, Badlands, Desert, Mountain/Hill, gold, Glacier, Earth, Dream, Deep, Aquatic, Arctic, Jungle, and Seacliff. I think is all i can think of... lots of dwarves out there! Don't think i got them all.

That's a large question. You've got a ton of racial variety's and each has a different specialty. The default dwarf (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/dwarf.htm) is pretty good, as are the racial variants, both enviromental (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/environmentalRacialVariants.htm) and elemental (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/elementalRacialVariants.htm). I'm personally a fan of the Aleithian Dwarves (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psb/20030926a), for they get a bonus to Con and Int. But really, you'd have to read Races Of Stone to truly appreciate the many dwarven races, and their fun peculiarities.
I could help more if you told me what you wanted from the race.

Did anybody ever update Aleithian Dwarves for 3.5? As it stands, they're 'polluted' with 3.0 psionics.

Can you specify what type of character you plan to play? I like the standard dwarf but it wouldn't make as much sense to play a standard dwarf druid as opposed to a dream dwarf whose favored class is druid

If you're allowed Pathfinder dwarves, not only are there two subspecies (Regular Mountain Dwarf and Deep Dwarf), but a lot of racial customisation rules to create different tribal tics (Like swapping out bonuses to saves for a little spell resistance, or trading bonuses to Appraise for bonuses to Knowledge.).

What kind of dwarf you want is entirely up to you and the campaign setting; you won't get much mileage out of a duergar in a desert (Unless you get hold of some smoked glass goggles), but otherwise dwarves have abilities and bonuses that made them decent as almost any class (Except sorcerer and caster-specced bard. As a PF paladin they're okay, but overshadowed by other races. As a 3.5 paladin, they're probably not much fun.)

Your question confuses me.
There is only one type of Dwarf (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/OurDwarvesAreAllTheSame).
"Gruff, gold-loving, blunt-speaking, Scottish-accented, Viking-helmed, alcohol-swilling, Elf-hating, ax-swinging, stout, long-bearded, stolid and unimaginative, boastful of their battle prowess and their vast echoing underground halls"
