Back in the day, the Playground was full of warm fuzzies and loves and squishes, all coming out of one thread- The Crush Thread.
It stood around for about ten threads before falling away into nothingness. As usually occurs in the Facebook Chat, us old timers became nostalgic, and the topic turned to the olden days of The Crush Thread and all that came from it.

I feel like there are quite a few newer posters who never experienced this, and, upon a double doggy dare from Moff Chumley, here I come with this gift.

Most of my crushes are on RL people nowadays :smallfrown:. Past Crushes (going back many years... *nostalgia trip*) consist of DD, Magtok, Exachix, Gwyn, Saurous. Why should forum interaction be any less valid than other forms of interaction for developing an attraction to someone? Why should PMs be more valid? You can be attracted to people having met them as part of a group. Text-based communication is just fine for conveying a personality, which is kind of a big thing for developing a serious crush, and if physical appearance is an issue, well, we have a thread for that too.

It's not really a matter of validity - it's just that a discussion forum seems to present more obstacles than other methods of text-based communication. Not vital, no, but certainly useful. The sheer number of users can also present an additional problem of individual faces being lost in the crowd.



Again, not saying it's impossible or anything - this thread wouldn't really be hear if it was, after all - just that it seems rather more difficult. That the facebook chat-group - i.e. a smaller, more informal off-site social environment - seems to be mention quite a lot in this thread may back thatup a bit.

All my crushes got moved to the either "admiring" or "purely platonic" columns since the whole getting-a-spouse thing. I think it's in the contract somewhere. Yeah, same here. That and I stopped being super active on the boards. I do have a bunch of people that are still on my 'would love to meet you' list, mostly that live overseas, because I go to a ridiculous amount of meetups over here, so if you've ever attended even one I've probably met you. (Death, Charity, Serps, Ruki, Sneak, Kantur, Scorpina, ZP, Karoht, Dizzy, Roland, Vaynor, Fax, Truemane, Cassie, Elvaris, Curly, just to name a few...man, some of these people I haven't seen in foreeeeever...)

I do have a totally real crush on Indurain though. He knows it, Zeb knows it, seems to be working out fine. :smalltongue:

I really, really admire Totally Guy for his nudism stuff. From a joke "look what I'm doing on the weekend!" that became "I may as well..." to nude bike riding even though your friends piked on you? Much, much respect.

I've ended up liking Thufir far more than I was expecting to, and I take it far too personally and paranoidily when he's being quiet - I'm pretty sure it really is just quiet, but dammit it feels like cold shoulder and I'm all "oh noes what'd I do?!" But I love how involved he is with theatre and stuff, and everyone needs to get a hug from him someday because they're amazing.

One of the saddest things about leaving the UK will be that it'll probably be years before I'll get to see Grlump again :smallfrown: But it will happen! He will come to Australia, and we shall go on a delightful romp to Uluru! ...or, you know, somewhere I can actually afford to go. Like the Great Barrier Reef :B

I admire Smee for being so... open and honest. About everything - sexuality, circumstances, woes, the lot. I want to be like her when I grow up.

Qwaz is incredibly cool, and teh secks. I like just hanging out and talking for ages about ponies and sex and people and stuff.

I said before that I have a love-hate crush thing going on with RabbitHoleLost, but really I think the hate part of it is pretty much all gone nowadays. Someday we will go to a meet-up together, and there will be explosions everywhere.

I'm acutely aware of how hard it can potentially be to spot a meaning one intends to convey if you're not overly clear about it. So you can rest assured, if I wanted you to feel bad, I'd put more effort into it.
