View Full Version : The Embarassing Earworms Thread

Simple rules. You've got a song playing in your head and no matter what you do you cannot get that little bastard out, blaring on constant replay. But this is no classic rock song that you want to sing along to - it's a song that under no circumstances do you want anyone to hear you singing under your breath due to it being wildly inappropriate and/or embarassing.

I'm starting this thread in honour of the fact that as a 25-year-old male I've been forced to walk around with this bastard of a song bouncing around my skull for the last three days now:
C'est La Vie - B*Witched (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvjLgjtJKsc)
I will admit that the damn thing is catchy as hell. I am also aware that if my girlfriend, family, or friends hear me singing it, I will be mocked relentlessly for it.

Who else feels my pain and is willing to admit to the embarassing catchy tune they cannot get rid of?

Gee Gee Gee (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7mPqycQ0tQ).

I don't speak a word of Korean, thus am singing along to the song phonetically.

My wife already groans whenever she hears me humming along (both my children like it though).

It's an operatic song, with male and female parts.

This particular version is a karaoke track (the title of the song flashed up at the beginning) and it's just a video of random people dancing to give something as backing for the singalong subtitles.

Oh Thanks, it's all starting to make sense now.
I spent 2 weeks trying to find out what it was and why those same people appeared in 4 other songs using the same forest background.

I had a friend who sung this, in the most unimaginably cute way. It was adorable. Much better than the actual song.

For me, it's any Lana del Rey song. Once I hear the song, it'll be stuck in my head for the rest of the day, at LEAST.
But I don't mind because I actually love those songs, so it's not really embarrassing for me.

As a person who occasionally is a party dj as a side gig, I end up with all sorts of songs that are annoying stuck in my head after any given gig, currently floating around there is Pink Cadillac, performed by Natalie Cole from a Mary Kay women's business networking thing...

About once every fiscal quarter I make my internet pilgrimage back to this remix done by Panda Boy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eVtW1ZzxH4). I confessed to my fiancee that I listen to this and I'll be damned if she wasn't fidgeting with her ring while we played it. Of course, I was jamming out. She provided the perplexed stare.

Well, I mostly shield myself from radio or TV pop music, so most of my earworms aren't that embarassing, if a bit unusual (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmCnQDUSO4I). Still, there was this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fvz-nNz0mc) (even this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpnaLJ-jn1k) would be easier to admit). This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42cRLsZ4Qmw) might be difficult to explain properly, but at least wouldn't make me feel bad about my taste in music.

I'm Han Solo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lg_FoEy8T_A).

These guys (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K08akOt2kuo) certainly! :smalltongue:

Either the initial shock has faded, or this is not nearly as bad as the Han Solo thing - it's at least campy and coherent enough to count as a parody or something. Still, it looks like the producers just spun the wheel of random game genres on this project.

I only get songs in my head that I know the words to. Solution, only learn the words of songs you don't mind hearing for an entire day!
Fell in the door, and you fell on the floor, with your hand on the knob, looking up and abruptly forget what your thinking, fire alarms go off in your head, you live in the nightgown of the sullen moon.

No matter how much rock, metal, and disco I play, I can't get Party Rock Anthem out of my head. Even my old earworms (Don't You Want Me, Beds Are Burning, and so forth) can't replace it. It's really starting to grate on me, since I don't even like it that much.

I only get songs in my head that I know the words to.

The same applies to me. Unfortunately, it applies to pretty much every song I learn the words to. After translating and analyzing a number of political songs for a school project, I had some of them coming up regularly for several years, chiefly this little gem (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZFPOavan6o&t=0m40s). I still catch myself humming it occasionally, only realizing halfway it's a Hitlerjugend song. Talk about embarrassing. :smalleek:

Walked past a store called "Chameleon." Have had Karma Chameleon playing in my head nonstop for the 24 hours since. Honestly, singing this song itself is less embarassing than the fact that I have been spotted by my (highly amused) girlfriend doing a little hip-wiggly dance while singing it as I cooked dinner. I was not aware I was doing it until she pointed it out to me.

Excuse me, I'll be over here hitting my head against a rock out of shame.

Hey, I like that song! It's certainly better than getting Everybody Have Fun Tonight (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4Lxa4EOiaE) stuck in your head like I do sometimes.

I'd say the most embarrassing earworm song I get lately is the Trololo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1orMXD_Ijbs) song. I've started humming it randomly while playing D&D sometimes, and I usually get dirty looks from everyone at the table. But hey, is it my fault the song is really catchy?

I usually find standard popular stuff to be not good, and most songs last a week at most.

Still, a recent one:
Aitakatta - AKB0048
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0UNE1SJUW8&feature=related
Warning, loud.

It seems like a pretty normal anime pop song until I found the AKB48 idol group video for Heavy Rotation. And then I'm like... *facepalm* need to stop listening to this.

There are worse ones, but they're not here because they're worse.

I've had this version of the Skyrim theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlCPOCwo3FY&feature=g-like) in my head for a couple of days now. It's not exactly embarassing in and of itself; it's an epic song! It's just that if I sing it and someone hears me, they ask what it is, and I'm forced to admit that it's the theme of a video game.
Also there's the fact that I'm singing gibberish because I honestly don't know a single damn word of that song besides "Dovahkiin." That's always awkward.
