Watch Station Janus

Watch Station Janus. The small station with a crew of some 15 Deathwatch marines and 235 serfs lies near the Cellebos warzone watching the slowly unfolding carnage in the Acheros Salient.

Dire news though from the large moon around Enarch VI. A key world near the supply lines to the hostile worlds of the bloody trinity. Despite the Imperial Blockade around the system there was a penetration and the chaos warband of the dark magos Izak Thrul landed on the world. Searching for something.... Although the Inquisition knowns not what.

The warband comprises of many heretics and magos but at its heart the Reaver Titan "Destroyer of Souls"- one of the feared Deaths Head legion that once fired shots at the Gate of the Imperial Palace on Holy Terra during the heresy before it fled into the depths of the galaxy after the Emperor smote Horus.

The moon is a barren wasteland. Human habitable- if barely if you ignore the 200km/h ash storms and median temperature of 39C. The world- a vicious ash waste home to mining colonies in sealed colonies to avoid the dust and the wind.

The Imperial troops on the northern Continent have been spread between the small hab stations and recently 11000 men have become unaccounted for as the Warband strikes at will. THe massive EM interference in the atmosphere preventing any form of orbital scanning and making orbital bombardment risky far beyond the tolerance of any ship's Captain.

The small black armour plated Astartes strike craft "Bringer of Wrath" slingshotted into orbit 2.3 hours ago breaking heavily as it streaked across the upper atmosphere aglow with the heat of the atmospheric burn. The flicjering red shooting star seen from the planet a sign of the woe and fire to come.

As the Bringer of Wrath tore its way free from the immaerium the vox lit up with urgent requests for identification from one of the 4 Imperial Navy frigates in high orbit. The dust wastes laid out beneath your vessel as a dull brownish smear partially obscured by the crackling black highly charged clouds that dominated the moon's thin atmosphere.

Red = mining/ research stations that have been garrisoned.
Black= missing/silent hab stations

THe hololith spreads out the vast display of the continent in the command deck. The soft whisper of the chapter serfs going about their duties the only sound save the soft hum of the air purifiers and the buzz of the cooling plasma drives.

The map spreading out over the deck glows, the different hab-mining stations glowing with the current dispositions of the Imperial forces and the black marks denoting the 3 mining stations that have dropped off the vox net without warning over the past 2 months.

Commander Nascent, the Deathwatch serf in charge of the safe conduct of the vessel turns to the assembled Kill Team. "My Lords' Astartes. The Imperial Fleet is becoming most insistent on an answer."
