He lived long enough to see many of his fears realized...

My favorite author, dead.

Wherever you are, Mr. Bradbury, our thought go with you. The thoughts of everyone who has ever dreamed of different worlds, of everyone who realized that this world is so much more than it seems. Your stories have made me who I am today, and I know I'm not alone in this. We salute you, as you go on your final journey to the stars. And we thank you. For making magic.:smallfrown:

(Holly crap he was still alive ?!)

The martian chronicles were pretty much where I learned what science fiction was.
RIP to a great sci fi author.

I also didn't know he was still alive.

This is still kinda sad news. He had a great run though, and influence a great number of people. Including myself.

He lived in my home town, and often gave talks and book signings at the library. I'm very glad I had the chance to meet him, he was an amazing man.

At least he lived to see what has to be the greatest tribute video ever made for him, or any other sci-fi author of his era. No, I won't link it, but it's easy to find on Youtube.

Wasn't it already linked 5 posts above yours? :smallconfused:

Seven....and yes. I didn't see that, and I wish you hadn't pointed it out, because now I have to be all responsible and authoritarian.

Obviously then, my point was completely wrong and can be hauled away by firemen for disposal?

More seriously, he was a great author and man, and while I don't personally find his death sad, it did stop me in my tracks. I read The Martian Chronicles and The Illustrated Man when I was fourteen and (though trying to trace strains of thought to their inception point is basically just navel gazing) I think I needed those ideas at that time. It was a perspective I didn't have before and it helped form who I am and the course of my life in many ways. He will be remembered. Perhaps even at this carnival I've heard so much about.
