I'm planning on running in a mid-level solo campaign with my DM to test out PF. Neither of us have used it before and I probably know a bit more about it than he does. I was interested in the Gunslinger and talked to him a little about it and he decided it's going to be a pirate campaign. What I'm asking is what kind of gunslinger (and possibly a combination of another class like rogue) does everyone suggest I use for this mid-level pirate. I don't need a full build, but any and all suggestions are welcome.

Start with Gunslinger (duh). Either Normal, Musket Master, or Pistolero will work. The other two archetypes are not very Pirate-y.

Rogue almost needs to be Pirate (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/rogue/archetypes/paizo---rogue-archetypes/pirate) archetype. The only fitting archetype to stack with Pirate would be Bandit (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/rogue/archetypes/paizo---rogue-archetypes/bandit), if desired, but straight Pirate is probably better.

There are also 2 PrC's that would work
Inner Sea Pirate (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/prestige-classes/other-paizo/i-m/inner-sea-pirate)
Shackles Pirate (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/prestige-classes/other-paizo/s-z/shackles-pirate)

Inner Sea is probably weaker than Rogue levels, but has some nice/fitting tricks, including the "Favored Tavern/Drink for Free" trick.

Shackles is probably overall better than Inner Sea, but ONLY if you are ACTUALLY on a ship/seashore. Too many of it's abilities are Ship, Ocean, or Bog related for it to be useful in a normal campaign.

My recommendation? Final build should have 5 levels of Gunslinger for Dex-to-Damage, and all the rest in Rogue.
