Chapter 1: A Single Step

It has been about 18 years since the last King's reign. Hyrule as a whole have almost given up hope that the his lost daughter, Princess Zelda is even alive. For now, the High Council of Hyrule has lead the people, to mixed results. While some problems could be directed at their prone to arguments and debates rather than any real commands, very few could have predicted the surge of monsters as of late. Sure, the odd moblin or Octorok is not much of a challenge to the militias, the increase in size of the monsters' "man"-power and increasing number of attacks, had revealed that the militia is both underarmed and untrained to deal with them.
Some had suggested that perhaps the demons had sensed that the King was slain, and that no suitable wielder of the Triforce, both a symbol and artifact of the gods, was there to take his place. And so, the beasts have chosen the hour when Hyrule is least able to help itself.
But in the midst of the darkness, a star shines. In an unlikely town near the Lost Woods' edge, is a hero... and he is not alone in his fight.

You are all in the town of Mapleon. The governor here had tasked your newly formed group to defend the town. You have received advance payment, a good sum of 2500 Rupees, with 2500 more should you somehow manage to put an end to these demonic bandits.
To be perfectly honest, the town is not much to look at. The only things that you can note about this town is that it has a Tavern, an Armory, and a Shop. There is a wooden wall surrounding the town, with a rather simple gate at the end of the main street. Most of the local Militia is posted around the Town Keep.

There doesn't appear to be anything happening at the moment, what do you want to do?

Meanwhile, outside the town...

A large and muscular reptilian stood hidden in the shade, restlessly toying with his axe. He noticed a soldier approach him, so he readied himself to strike. However, he recognized him and lowered his mighty weapon to the ground.

On top of the town walls...
The guard sighed. This job was duller by the minute, and there was nothing he could do about it. Standing around in the sun doing nothing wasn't what he imagined life as a guard would be like. Most of the times some farmer ran to the town for help, the bandits had already made off with whatever mischief they accomplished. He looked at his companion, a fellow guard. "Hey, heard any good rumors?" His companion was silent, scanning the horizon. Then he saw some flashing, a light reflected off of a mirror. The guard also took notice. "Hey, what's that over there."
Suddenly, he felt a sudden pain from his back and through his stomach. He looked down and saw a sword sticking out, covered in his blood. The sword was drawn out, and the guard crumpled to the ground. The other guard pulled off his face-obscuring mask, revealing his skeletal features.
"You talked too much." The stalfos hissed.

Back in the town...
Suddenly, you all hear a loud scream, "We're under attack!"
Stalfos jump down from the walls, brandishing swords.
You then see a large orange reptilian at the gates. A Daira, no doubt the leader of the group.

Sorry, I got into a tangent there. I don't have anything to give you, except for some advice; get yourself a merchant to follow you. They can carry and keep track of all your stuff for you. It's better than trying to carry everything yourself. In addition, they can sell you the basic weapons and items for any mercenary company. But if you want some of the rare and powerful stuff, like say a Killer Axe or a Luna tome, you have to go find specialty store. Hyrule Castle Town has lots of stores there, for example, but any large town worth it's salt has at least one good store."
