I know its 3rd party, but it seems like the Apprentice (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/3rd-party-classes/4-winds-fantasy-gaming/apprentice) base class makes Mystic Theurge a little better as an option, since it essentially gives you 11 dual levels and lets you enter the class at level 6 rather than level 7. Does no one ever mention this trick simply because of the 3rd party deal?

Except the class doesn't really give you any worthwhile benefits besides a slightly earlier access to a prestige class, and mystic theurge is often a very subpar choice compared to full casters anyway. Plus it's third-party, so it's not really relevant to any standard build discussions since most people won't have access to it.

What he said.
3rd party is the main point.

It's only 1 level early entry, so you're still a solid 2 caster levels/1 spell level behind everyone else.

And the end result isn't much better than "regular" entry.
Example: Wiz 7/Cleric 3/Theurge 10 = Arcane 9, Divine 7
App 1/Wiz 6/Cleric 3/Theurge 10 = Arcane 9, Divine 7
The only difference is Divine in the first has caster level 13, whereas the 2nd has caster level 14.

So yeah. IF it is allowed it 'might' be worth considering, but it doesn't really do that much, as Mystic Theurge still has all the normal issues.
