I'm looking for feats that are good for evocation specialists. I remember reading about one that removed the maximum damage dealt, but can't find anything on it now. Does it exist? Know any other great ones?

I'm using the Metamagic Specialist variant for Sculpt Spell and Easy Metamagic (Dragon 325) to reduce its cost. A few other slots are filled just to meet the prerequisites for the War Mage PrC (Dragonlance book I can't recall). The character is currently level 4, and we're not likely to go past level 10.

I'm well aware that evocation isn't a good school to focus in, but it's what I'd like to play at the moment.

Well if you are going to go blasting, empower and twin spell are pretty good options, and there is a feat Reserve of Strength or something like that, which depending on the reading lets you break the CL cap on any spell or just lets you break it for 3 CL (so if you cast a fireball with this feat you could go up to 13d6) but it dazes you for a round.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that you could do Item Familiar to get a staff and load it up with your Fireballs. Spam Fireballs ad nauseum or something like that. Arcane Thesis is also a winner (PH2).

Energy Subsititution is never a bad idea as well so you can mix up your damage types in cases of enemy immunities.

Searing Spell does well for blasters too, as it makes your Fire spells ignore fire resistance and do half damage to fire immune targets. Not bad for a +1 level modification.

The way to utterly trump that is to take 1 level in Sanctified One of Kord (Complete Champion) and choose the Holy Fire ability, which makes ALL your fire spells into untyped Divine energy. The downside is that it costs you a caster level and requires a BAB of 5 to qualify.

That's either Pathfinder's Intensified Spell, or Dragonlance campaign setting's Reserves of Strength.

Intensified spell is the better balanced (as in, it's the one that's balanced at all).

Intensify Spell is a D&D3.5 metamagic feat - it just happens to be epic.
Enhance Spell is the epic feat that adds 10 dice to the damage cap of a spell - so there really should not be a feat that removes it!

Searing Spell is great (I played a pyromaniac who loved using it on demons and devils - even when another energy would have been "better") and there is a cold equivalent in frostburn.

One reserve feat is probably worth taking - which will depend on personal preference and favoured energy.

Spell Penetration is a must - to blow things up you need to get through their SR.
Spell Focus Evocation is useful - get your DCs high enough and the rogues with improved evasion start worrying about your spells.

Depending on the environment Widen or Enlarge spell could be useful.

Have fun!

Arcane Thesis (orb of fire) is a good choice. Combo it with low cost metamagics for win. If you want cheesy, then add on invisible spell (or any other +0 metamagics) for a free extra level for another metamagic.

Energy Admixture is indeed the one for adding an extra energy type.

Invisible Spell is actually a bit OP for +0, so if you can spare the feat it is great fun.

Intensify Spell is an Epic 3.5 feat.

Intensified Spell is a Pathfinder +1 metamagic that adds 5d6 to a blast's dice cap. :smallamused:

There are a few other feats that are quite good for making efficient blasters, one of them being Practical Metamagic. You have to pick what metamagic feat it is, but when you apply that feat, it makes any and all uses of that feat one level lower, i.e. Maximize Spell only costs 2 levels, etcetera.

Searing Spell, Piercing Cold and Energy Substitution are all very good as well, especially in helping you out with resistances. I'm not sure if they have similar feats for the other energies out there, but if you'd rather use something other than fire or cold, I'm sure you can ask your DM for a homebrewed equivalent.
