I have a beguiler/spymaster whose cover identity won't allow for obvious, flashy magic items, so I'm looking for small, discreet "gadgets" that would give him an edge without going overboard.

This is an NPC in a campaign I'm running, and I'm open to suggestions on items from just about anything by WotC. Panic buttons and maybe something alchemical are a good start, and he'll also be carrying a few moonsilver shards from the AEG. Any suggestions along those lines?

Not a gadget but there is a slight of hand skill trick that lets you hide that you are casting a spell.

I find Complete Scoundrel a good source for roguish Gadgets :smalltongue: Nothing says "Lets GTFO" like a free action dimension door :smallwink:

In particular? I'd say my pick of the week goes to Rod of Ropes, 4,000 gp for a ridiculous grappling hook, ascender, bullrushing rod. It's pretty much Zelda's hookshot.

On that note: What if Zelda was a girl? :smalltongue: I COULD not resist...

But seriously, the Thief's Utility belt should be filled with almost everything that is necessary at any given time... Hmm... Someone should make a handbook for that... The Thief's Utility belt... Yeah, I like it :smallamused:

Wow.

I am marveling at Darrin's compilation. Not just a comprehensive list, but an annotated compendium. The beguiler will be shopping here.

--However, where is the Belt of Hidden Pouches from? Darrin prefers the haversack, but the Belt is perfect for what I have in mind.

That list is just marvelous! I've heard of the aboleth mucous and egg-shell grenades before, but most of these items are new to me. Thanks for the link!

Yeah, its a must for any factotum/beguiler/rogue/person who wants to be useful out of combat. Adjust to suit, of course. I keep a link in my sig for quick reference.

Speaking of utility belts, here's an earlier mini-handbook (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?PHPSESSID=3d7801a927efe9d32617863ef4a904 39&topic=4400.0) on the topic. Darrin's compendium is lightyears beyond it, but there's still a few interesting things in there.

Also, the Belt of Hidden Pouches is from Races of the Wild, p. 173, and it's worth every last pfennig of that 5000 gp. That Belt plus Darrin's compendium will do wonders for my beguiler.
