Beast Claws: am I missing something

I was planning to flip through the spells section of Complete Divine, when I hit Beast Claws. A level 3 druid spell and level 4 cleric spell. It gives you a claw attack (maybe two?). For 1 round per level. As a druid you get this spell at a level when you can change into animals. It's 2 spell levels higher than Produce Flame and Shillelagh.

It seems so terribly silly that I have the feeling that I'm missing something here. Is this spell useful in any way?

Well, it got updated in the Spell Compendium to be a 1st level Druid spell (only, no Cleric), and the duration was buffed to Hour/level. As to the CDiv version, there're a few bad spells on any level in their initial print.

A good rule of thumb - if you see any spell in a Complete that makes you scratch your head, check Spell Compendium/PHB2 to see if it was updated.
