For the combat session I'm going to be running this weekend I'm making a desert oasis that will house the blue dragons cave, the pond and river that the crocosphinx's will be hiding in, and a stone bridge leading over the rive to the cave mouth.

Here's what I have so far.

Hollowed out the pond and rive and filled it in with plaster of paris.

Added the first 2 layers of the canyon walls, and set the bridge on place.

Looks cool! Especially if you've adjusted for the size of the miniatures.

Maybe a light sanding on the cardboard, a fine misting of a weak adhesive and a layer of sand?

It's great seeing people actually doing scale stuff like this for their games... nicely done! Takes me back to the days of [real] sandbox gaming in my basement.

I'm skipping the other stages I took pictures of to show the final project. Seeing as how it only took me a total of about 6 hours and its the first time I ever did anything with foam, I'm really happy with how it turned out.

There is a gravel pathway leading from the corner of the board to the bridge and then from the bridge to the cave (black spot lol) that I did with stone texture spray paint.

I had some ideas for putting grid lines on it but I figured for not we can just guestimate when we use it.

Cheers!

I love how the water looks in this one.

Originally that's what I was going to do but I tried using tan textured pray paint instead. When I tested it out on a scrap piece it didn't cover very well and it was eating away at the foam but I didn't have time to do anything else because I'm using it tomorrow so I went for it.

It actually turned out great because where it ate into the foam made everything more textured than just the paint would have anyway. I went back over it with 2 shades of regular spray paint to cover everything up and it worked out pretty well.
