First Homebrew! Yay!

I've been playing fourth edition for a long time now and every time I play or DM, it feels relatively the same. I've heard this complaint from many people here on the forums. Every ranger, rogue, fighter, warlock, ... feels exactly like every ranger, rogue, fighter, warlock ... . I am looking to fix that. I thank wizards tried to by adding essentials and players option, but it didn't really help.

In my system there are 6 choices that must bemade first when creating your character. They are: Race, Power Source, Role, "Class", style/school/domain/cycle, and theme (which I may end up calling backstory or something).

To start making a character you first choose your race. Your race gives you +1 to two main statistics (STR, CON, CHA, INT, DEX, WIS); your height, weight, age, apperance, mannerisms, and name; +1 two to skills (no new skills here folks); and some balanced features. Your race also gives you 1 encounter (that scales with level) , 1 daily, and 1 utility. You do not immediately know these powers, you have to select them when you choose powers. A race also qualifies you for certain feats.

Next you would choose your power source. The power sources are Primal, Martial, Divine, and Arcane. A power source gives you a trained skill, an at-will, 3 encounters (that scale with level), 2 dailys, and 2 utility. A power source qualifies you for certain feats.

After that you choose your role. The roles are Striker, Supporter, Defender, Controller. A role gives you an at-wil, 3 encounters (that scale with level), 2 dailys, and 2 utilitys. You also qualify for certain feats.

You then choose a class. For every combo of role and power source their are to classes. Refer to table below. A class gives you skill choices, features, and powers. You also qualify for cetain feats, armor, and weapons.

{table]...........|Striker|Supporter|Defender|Controller
Primal|Ranger, Beast Master|Chieftan, Shaman|Barbarian, Keeper|Druid, Witch
Arcane|Occultist, Summoner|Bard, Necromancer|Sword Mage, Builder|Wizard, Illusionist
Divine|Monk, Avenger|Prophet, Cleric|Paladin, Rune Scribe|Binder, War Priest
Martial|Archer, Rogue|Warlord, Adventurer|Fighter, xxxx|Trapper, xxxx
{table]xxxx=don't know yet|
After you choose your class, you can choose your domain/style/school/cycle. Each class has a number of options on these. (I may make this Power source dependent). Your style/domain/school/cycle gives you 3 encounters(which scale with level), 2 dailys, and 2 utilities. It also gives features and qualifies you for certain feats.

The last choice is your Theme, or backstory. This represents how you grew up (a begger, a thief), your job (arena fighter, bounty hunter), or special ailments (tainted, vampirism). Your theme gives you 1 encounter(that scales with level), 1 daily, 1 utility, +2 to one main stat, +2 to one skill, features, and feat qualification.

You figure out your stats, skills, intiative, speed, defenses, features, and feats( with a modified feat list) as normal 4e DnD. Power choices are different. You choose 2 at-wills, 2 encounters, and one daily from ANY of your choices power lists. You can only use one encounter per encounter. You level up and gain XP as normal.

Your powers effects and roles are influenced by all your choices. Ex. One of the controller powers will place a zone effect of some kind determined by your class. Ex. Wizard's would place a damge for entering the zone or staring in it, while an illusionist would have it look like a barrier.

Now for the hard part. Making a revised list of races, classes, power sources, roles, themes, schools, feats, powers.

Things to do:

Meat 99% complete
Feats 0%
Schools 0%
Classes 24%
Power sources 27%
roles 27%
powers 0%
Races 50%
