Picking Monsterous Race help

hey i am doing a kinda home brew campaign and i need help picking out a race. i was going to be a ranger since the only monstrous race i have found without a large level adjustment and that looks fun to play is a shifter. Any other suggestions? comments? ideas?

What do you call a Monstrous race? Cause shifter is a standard PC race for Eberron.

Warforged are awesome clockwork men. If Shifters are exotic, so are they, playing them are awesome.

Kobolds are my personal favorite for rangers, specially if u build them for a sniper build.

Do you actually want to play a ranger? Or is it because of the favored class of shifter?

I could help you out better if I knew what class/archetype/theme you actually wanted to play. So many races out there...
