[An Enemy Spy]

The sun sets over the endless sea, bathing the world in its orange glow. The village of Kokikiiaru sits nestled into the coastline, with white sandy beaches on the edge of the dark jungle. A mighty bonfire burns in the center of the village. Dancers in fearsome and grotesque masks gyrate and leap wildly amongst the raging flames. all the members of Kokikiiiaru, down to the smallest child have gathered, for this is no ordinary night.

Kieros
The women fuss over you like a child, adorning your body with scented herbs and applying the red ochre paints, drawing an array of symbols over your bare chest. This is the day you were waiting for, the day you were born for. You are lead from the hut and into the throng, which parts before you like the surface of the water before a shark's fin.
The Shaman stands before you as you approach. He takes you by the shoulders and paints two bright blue lines under your eyes with his paint. Then he hands you a whiteish blue stone.
"This one has chosen you, child. May Kyogre lead you to victory."
Another boy approaches. He is Chakas, born on the same day as you. While you were raised in the mystical ways of the elements, he has been raised as a hunter and a warrior. The Shaman says the same thing to Chakas and hands him a dark brown stone.
The two of you are brought to the center of the crowd.
The Shaman raises his arms and a circle of flames rise from the ground.
"In the old times, before the great bird Ho-Oh pecked the stars into the sky, there was foretold a day when a light would fall from the sky and give birth to a champion to go out into the world and bring back it's glory. Thirteen years ago to this day, that light came, and we were given two boys. For years, we have watched them grow. Chakas was given the path of the warrior, and Kieros the Elemental. But only one of them can bring hope to our people. And so, today we see who is the champion the old ones spoke of."
Chakas's dark skin shines orange in the flickering firelight. His muscular chest heaves up and down as he glares at you with eyes full of hatred.
"I've waited my whole life for this night. I'm not going to lose to you now, Kieros. You won't steal my destiny."
Smoke pours out of his spirit stone and forms into a grey humanoid creature with three ridges on it's head. It's arms and chest bulge with muscle to match Chakas's.

Kagami
You watch from among the assembled throng.

"I steal nothing, Chakas... this day, we will see which of us Ho-oh's tear was shed in honor of." With that, Kieros raises his stone, allowing the smoke to pour from it and coalesce into the form of the blue and white creature.

It was the only pokemon she could find that wasn't immediately taken from her... "Ganbatte," she whispers in the old language, the same language that comprised her name.

As the battle rages, you feel a sense of tugging at the back of your mind.

The voice does not seem to be coming from anywhere, but you can feel that it is trying to lead you down to the seaside.

Kagami freezes, then shivers before looking towards the shore, then back to the events at hand, she didn't like this... it was a bad sign, with that, she slipped away, and ran to her hut, grabbing her extra spirit stone, actually an apricorn ball she had gotten from a trader, the salve she had for her new pokemon, and her bow and arrows before heading down to the beach, looking nervous the entire time, even nocking an arrow to her bow as she gets close to the beach itself.

Kagami. Fourteen years old of the village Kokikiiaru. On the day of your birth, I marked you with hair the color of the deep sea, and your people have shunned you for it. But I have not abandoned you.
Out in the dark water, something passes under the surface, sending out ripples.
You were meant for a purpose far greater than the goals of this tiny village.
A cloud passes over the moon and swallows it in blackness and the fire in the background seems to die down. The jubilant voices and the sounds of the battle, even the crash of waves against the shore fades away into silence. All is dark and still and silent, until a pale silver light comes from beneath the water, growing closer and closer, until a silver figure emerges from beneath the surface.
It is neither man nor woman, and shines like the moon on a cloudless night. The voice continues in your head, but the figure's lips do not move.
You must accompany the champion on his quest, and watch over him. He will not survive without you.

Kagami stumbles backwards, crying out as the creature comes from the water, she shivers as it speaks. Once it finishes speaking she turns and runs, back to her hut where she simply hides. She had known it was a bad sign, and yet she had gone, it may have said her fate was greater, but that wasn't comforting... if the champion was Kieros, she'd go, but if it was Chakas, she wouldn't. He was one of the worst when it came to her, she still had a bruise from the last time she had encountered him. Kieros, she had never met for more than a few seconds, but he never shunned her like the others. She'd have to find out who won after the fights were over, she didn't want to leave her hut until she was sure they were over.

As the humanoid creature knocks his own ally back, Kieros merely nods, seeing the creature take the blow. "Kith..." he calls out, the ball-like creature's name coming to him instinctively, "Unleash your power... let the snows of winter chill his bones!" Kith quickly rights himself, and with a cry sends a blast of ice-cold snow at the gray thing.

The silver figure doesn't follow you, but its voice comes again in your head.
You can't outrun destiny, Little One. You will walk this path. But that doesn't mean you must walk it alone.
The silky egg begins to move, and the sticky weblike surface splits open. The Weedle squirms out, wet with slime.

Kieros
The enemy pokemon surges through the stream of ice and pounds at Kith.

As Kith is knocked back by the blow, it eats the small berry it held. It staggers once, before pushing back up and giving a low growl at the other Pokemon. "Yes, Kith... endure. This is nothing compared to the trials that lie ahead. Now... unleash the fury of winter once more!" Kith cries out again, sending another blast of icy snow at its opponent.

The grey skinned Pokemon falls back with ice clinging to its body.
"Riser, no!" Chakas screams.
Chakas stands there for a moment, not saying anything. He sinks to his knees. Everyone looks at you as if expecting you to do something.

Kieros looks at the fallen Pokemon, Riser, then turns his gaze to Chakas. "It is done, then... tend to your companion, Chakas. Kith..." He smiles slightly as he raises the spirit stone up. "Rest now... I shall call you again when you are needed."

Kagami cradles the newly hatched weedle, it was stronger than a normal member of its breed, she could tell that, though she couldn't tell the gender just yet with it being so young, "I'm not running from destiny," she looked at the weedle, "I'll call you Stinger," she says.

Chakas gets to his feet and slowly walks over to you. He takes you by the shoulders.
"You were the better man, Kieros." He takes off his sharktooth necklace and hands it to you. Only hunters get to wear ornament like that. "Take it. It will give you the strength of the Sharpedo it came from."
He turns around to face the crowd. "What are you all looking at? Celebrate the champion!" Then he he stalks off back toward his hut.
The crowd is silent for a moment, and they everyone breaks into jubilant cheering. You are picked up and placed on the carrying chair normally reserved for the Chief and given necklaces made from colorful seashells. The night goes on, with dancing and feasting and ancient stories told in front of the great fire.
When you awake, you are lying on the sand among all the other revelers of the night before. A young boy is tugging your arm.
"Kieros, come to the Chief's hut."

OOC: Sorry for the delay. I got plastered on the fourth and woke up hungover wearing somebody else's clothes, and I was going to post last night but my power went out.

The next day, Kagami wakes up with Stinger resting on her head, "...let's see who won..." she says, taking the weedle off her head, placing it in her quiver so it'd remain hidden but still ready for anything that may come up. With that, she heads out, going to the beach since that was where they'd likely have gone for the party.

OOC: Only true if the tribe doesn't have a written langage. Anyway, symbols would work, a lightning bolt for electrics, a beetle for bug, an eye for psychic, a leaf for grass, etc. That gives type. And maybe unown script spelling out the pokemon name. Pokemon has a built in language after all, and being a Tribal Shaman would promise that Kieros can read, and Kagami may as well have taught herself just as she taught herself the ancient language (which is Japanese in case you didn't notice).

Kieros takes the offered necklace from Chakas, giving the warrior a respectful nod. As he takes it, he says, "Thank you, Chakas."

Waking up, Kieros sees the young boy, and nods, making his way to the chief's hut, waiting to hear why he has been called.

How about a crystal eye of some sort? A jewel that, when pointed towards a Pokemon, will capture instincts from it, and project a mental image to the holder, showing it in battle? Have it just project the needed information directly into our minds.

You enter the Chief's hut, where the Chief, the Shaman and a handful of elders are waiting.
"Kieros. It is good to see you." The Chief says. "These are dark times, though most people in Kokikiiaru are unaware of it. Perhaps it is fate that you should become the champion at this time."
One of the elders pulls back the animal skin covering a window of the hut, showing one of the islands that lie off the coast.
"As you know, the Island of Gorii is home to another village. We have been keeping this from the people, but a recent party sailed to the island and found the entire village razed to the ground, with most of the old people and warriors dead. Our party searched the island but couldn't find anyone still alive. Two suns ago, there was smoke coming from where the village had been. We do not know who is over there. You must take a boat and find out what is happening there, in case the same fate may befall us."

Kagami
Everyone is asleep, save for a few of the old people who didn't join in the celebrating the last night. Chakas is sitting down by the water, with a humanlike creature with grey skin and three ridges on its head. The Sharpedo tooth necklace he normally wears is missing.

OOC: Thing is, written language is a cornerstone of an advanced society. To have writing, you need an established economic system that necessitates record keeping and thus requiring some form of written system. A village on the edge of a rainforest with no farmland and thus no real advancement is going to have any concept of writing whatsoever.
And I wish you hd asked me before you gave Kagami the ability to speak Japanese. I can't really think of a reason why she would have a skill like that, or why some ancient and forgotten language like that would even exist in this setting.

Kagami doesn't see Kieros, and the missing necklace, in Kagami's mind, was a good thing. She headed towards the village, specifically towards the chief's hut, where the shaman would likely be after the events. She approaches, and hesitate a bit, before speaking to get the attention, "A-ano, is anyone here," she asks, remaining outside the building.

Most cultures, tribal or otherwise, have a forgotten language, even if they're a young society, something that's just passed down from generation to generation. And, honestly, it's a fluff thing. Most of the characters i use speak a little Japanese every now and again. Plus, most settings with magic use a dead dialect for spells and the like.

Kieros nods, and says, "Dark times, indeed... I shall go, then... perhaps the smoke is simply survivors returning to the village, but it is best if we know." Bowing to the chief, Kieros turns to leave, heading towards the water's edge to get a boat.

"Begone, girl!" One of the elders says. "This is an important discussion!"

Kieros
You exit, stepping past a girl and make your way down to the shore, where a group of warriors is preparing a large canoe.
"We will be your escort, Champion." the leader says. "We shall be ready to go soon."

Kieros nods, and sits down on the beach, closing his eyes and simply feeling the world around him. "I will wait, then."

Kagami's eyes widen, "w-wait," she calls to Kieros, "I, I was told to go with you," she says, then whispers to Kieros, "by a sea spirit," she looked nervous, praying for something to show she was telling the truth.

Kieros looks up at the voice, blinking for a moment as he recognizes the blue-haired girl. "The spirits spoke to you, you say... I see." Thinking for a moment, Kieros says, "What else did this spirit tell you?"

"It, it said it marked me," she says, subconsciously grabbing her braid, "and the people of the village have shunned me for it," she still looks nervous, "It said I had a purpose beyond the village, and that you wouldn't survive without me. I, I ran from it, and it said I can't run from destiny," she takes off her quiver, "then this hatched, last night, a-and if my experience is right, it already looks ready to evolve..."

Kieros walks over towards the girl, and looks into the quiver, seeing the insect Pokemon there. He turns back towards the water, closing his eyes and thinking for a moment, before nodding. "I can feel it in the wind, and hear it in the waves... danger lies ahead. If you wish to come, you may - the spirits have set this path before us both, it seems, so long as you are willing to walk it alongside me."

Soon the boat is ready and the two of you climb aboard. The warriors initially balk at having Kagami aboard, but they defer to the champion's judgement.
The boat skims swiftly atop the water. As you go, black fins rise up from the water and follow you. Soon, the entire boat is surrounded by Sharpedos.
"Do not worry, Kieros. The Sharpedos won't attack the boats. They're just waiting for somebody to fall into the water."
"He wears the tooth of one of them." another warrior says. "Only those who have killed sharks wear that necklace."
"Chakas was unwise to give that to you. He'll have to earn a new one."
The boat eventually pulls onto the shore of Gorii.
"Take Tola and Kiir with you, Champion, and Kagami if you like." Two warriors barely older than yourselves step up. "The rest will wait here and guard the boat. If you need our help, send Tola back to get us. He is the fstest runner."

Kieros nods, and says, "Very well, then. Let us go..." He then begins making his way to the site of the village.

As you make your way along the beach, you spot a furry thing lying on the beach. Closer inspection reveals it to be a sloth reclining in the sand. As you approach, it lazily sits up and stares at you.

Kagami follows, bow in hand, with an arrow ready, but not nocked yet, and Stinger perched on her shoulder, poised to strike, "what, exactly, are we looking for, I wasn't there when it was explained," she asks quietly.

As they walk, Kieros explains, "The village that was on this island was found razed by one of our parties, several suns ago. No survivors were found, but recently, smoke was seen from where the village once stood. We are to see what lies there, and take steps to ensure that our village does not befall the same fate as this one."

Seeing the sloth there, Kieros ponders for a moment, before nodding. He pulls out his spiritstone, and releases Kith in a cloud of smoke, watching the sloth carefully.

"Wait," Kagami says, walking towards the slakoth, Stinger looking at it curiously as she does so, she kneels down before it and offers a hand, seeing if it was friendly. It would be now that the people from the village would remember she's a breeder, "hey there little one," she says, using a quiet voice to keep it calm, though it already seemed calm.

The sloth latches its hands around your arm as if you were a tree branch. Very slowly, it climbs up your body and wraps its arms around you, and then hangs there motionless.

Kieros nods, and recalls Kith, saying, "It seems to cooperate with you... it is useful, having someone who can calm them."

Kagami smiles softly, "avoiding fights is a good idea in this situation," she says, petting the slakoth gently, "these little guys are rather friendly. A little hard to train, but friendly." she returns to the rest of the group, "he won't be any trouble as long as you don't do anything against him," she still has that small smile.

"I see." Kieros says, calmly. "I will be certain to remember that... I think that I see now why you were guided to this path."

"Maybe having the breeder along isn't bad." Tola says. "They have power over wild animals."
Kiir is more dismissive. "Sloths are dull witted and tame. Let us see her do that with a ravenous Garchomp and I wil be impressed."

Kieros looks at the two warriors for a long moment, before saying, "Let us continue, then."

"Don't be so insulting, their second evolution is much more wild and dangerous," her smile had dropped, "and i did say they're friendly, they're not dangerous unless you pick a fight with them. I wouldn't have approached it otherwise." With that, she follows Kieros.

The village lies a little over two miles away. You are greeted with a grisly scene. The huts have all been burned down, leaving only burning cinders. A pile of dead bodies is in the center. Warriors, old men and women, and the smallest children have been stacked together. Their bodies are rotting, and the stench is almost unbearable. There is no sign of anyone else left.

Kagami covers her mouth, "this is horrible..." she says, "what could have done this? No pokemon would do this, and the tribes around ours wouldn't do something like this."

Scowling, Kieros says, "This... such death... why was this done?" Kieros begins to look around the ruins of the village, saying to Tola and Kiir, "See if you can find any indication of what - or who - did this..." before he begins searching for anything unusual himself.

Kagami starts looking around as well, sending a glance at the slakoth, "do you know what happened?" she asked, quietly.

You see two dark figures crouched in the forest.

Scowling, Kieros moves to get the attention of the others, even as he brings Kith's spiritstone into his hand. "There... in the trees..." he says quietly, keeping his gaze trained upon the figures in the woods.

Kagami comes over to Kieros, but stays back a ways, she was no fighter, "could be either survivors or the people that did this," she says, "Stinger, keep ready tangle them up if they're hostile."

Readied action to have Stinger use string shot if they take a hostile action.

A pair of spiritstones sail out of the trees, and two small dark bipedal creatures with shiny gems for eyes appear from the smoke.

Kieros quickly flicks his spiritstone forward, releasing Kith ahead of him to face these creatures. "We come from Kokikiiaru... we are here to help the people of this village," he calls out, towards the shadowed figures. "Tola, Kiir, Kagami..." he says, quieter, "be ready."

Kagami whispers to the slakoth, "you may want to hide somewhere, we don't want you getting hurt," she says, then turns to Stinger, "hit them with a poison sting."

One of the enemies stares into Kith's eyes, gem stone glinting. They flash white for an instant.

The other leaps at the seal with its claws.

"Kith," Kieros calls out, "Strike them down with your torrent!" The seal opens its mouth, and fires a spray of water at the same creature that was struck by the poison sting.

The Slakoth yawns loudly at the two enemies.

"We will get the men in the woods!" Tola and Kiir race off to where the dark figures stand.

OOC: Just remembered that Yawn can't miss. Oh well, it was a lousy roll anyway.

Kagami looked at the slakoth and smiles slightly, "thanks," she says, smiling lightly, "another poison sting Stinger," she says, aiming at the same sableye as last time, taking one down would have the danger they presented.

The poison spine hits the pokemon and it goes down. The other one slashes at Kith again.

Kieros watches as the gem-eyed creature slashes at Kith, throwing the seal back. It lies there, unmoving, and Kieros says, "You fought well, Kith... rest now." Calling the creature back into its spiritstone, Kieros rushes at the remaining foe, lowering his shoulder in a fierce charge.

Your blow passes harmlessly through the foe, doing nothing at all.

The remaining pokemon falls over asleep.

"It's down now," Kagami says, "they're ghost types by the look of it, you going through them, we need to get your pokemon healed if we're facing ghosts, Stinger can't hold his own forever, and this little guy may help, but he's a normal type, most of his attacks will be ineffective against them," she turns towards where the others had gone, "any idea how they're doing?"

Stinger is now level 7 and able to evolve, can i evolve him?

Kieros turns towards the forest, and says, "I will aid them. See that this one stays down," he nods towards the sleeping ghost as he speaks, "and then come to assist us if you can. And be careful..." He then makes his way towards the trees, to join Tola and Kiir against their opponents.

Toal and Kiir are both fighting one enemy each. Tola is handling his opponent quite well, while Kiir has taken a few hits.

"Stinger, let's start tieing them up," with that, the little weedle uses a series of string shots to anchor the sableye to the ground and keep it from being a problem.

Kieros looks at the two separate battles, before charging at Kiir's opponent, shoulder first.

The ghost wakes up and shrugs off the thin web of string.
Kiir takes adavntage of the distraction you caused to the enemy combatant and shoves his spear through the man's chest.
Tola dispatches his foe in similar fashion.

Kagami tenses, then relaxes a little, "your trainer is down, likely dead," she says, nodding in the direction, but never taking her eyes off the ghost mon, "you have no more reason to fight us," she continues, "Would you be willing to come with us without fighting?"

The ghost screeches angrily and charges at Kagami with it's claws.

Kagami winces as the claws connect, "Stinger," she says, getting the little pokemon to shoot a multitude of tiny needles at the ghost as Kagami herself backs away, trying to keep the slakoth from being injured while it hung from her shoulder.

"Kieros," she shouts, "It's back up!"

Kieros turns at Kagami's shout, saying, "Come! Quickly!" before dashing back to the battlefield, scowling to himself as he tries to think of a way to fight it.

"Grab its spirit stone and return it," Kagami calls out, it would be the quickest way to end this fight now.

Nodding, Kieros turns towards the downed men, searching for any spiritstones they carry.

You find a blank grey spiritstone and a flat piece of wood that has been decorated with seashells.

The Slakoth yawns again. Since Kagami is so close to the ghost, she begins to feel drowsy as well.

The men have black skin, not just dark brown but actually black like the night sky. Their teeth look like they've been filed down to sharp points and are longer than usual.

Scowling, Kieros takes the items and stuffs them into his pouch as he runs back to the battle. Seeing Kagami lying on the ground, he quickly runs forward, kneeling by her and checking whether she's alive or not.

Kagami is still breathing. She's ust asleep, not dead, though the ghost pokemon left a nasty gash with its claws.

The wood pieces begin to react in the presence of Stinger. Pictograms appear on their surfaces, detailing Weedles and information aqbout their life styles.

Kieros looks at the pieces of wood briefly, seeing the images form on them, before turning his attention towards Kagami. Looking at her wounds carefully, he tries to recall what little training he received from the village's shaman in the ways of healing.

Kagami wakes with a yawn, rubbing her eyes, "guess this little guy hit me with that sleep move of his," she muttered, patting the slakoth's head, "you did quite well there," she says to the little guy, "would you like to join my team? I'm sure you'd fit in quite well," she says, as she continues to pet him, "who knows, you may have fun."

The Slakoth doesn't appear to have understood you.
Stinger's body begins to go rigid. His exoskeleton hardens and his whole body turns into an unmoving cacoon with two black eyes.
"Such strange men." Tola says, "I have never seen a man with pitch black skin before. And those teeth, they are like beasts."

Kieros nods as he sees Kagami wake, and looks back to the odd pieces of wood. Seeing that the insect Pokemon has changed, he takes one of the wooden boards and raises it in the direction of the insect, while saying, "You fought well, Kagami... the ones who attacked us lie dead in the woods. They carried these wooden tiles... they hold some strange magic, it seems."

Kagami smiles at the Slakoth as Stinger evolves, feeling him getting heavier on her back, he had expected it. She pets the Slakoth as she stands back up, then freezes midway, eyes wide, and falls back to the seated position. She shivers slightly, "I-I really need t-to ask it to stop d-doing that," Kagami says, sounding almost as if she's cold, "a-apparently they're called Dream Eaters, they gave up their humanity for... well, 'dark energy' as the spirit put it. It called them Enemies of Life." she says, relaying the message.

"Dream Eaters?" Kieros mutters, bewildered. He asks Kagami, "The spirit spoke to you again, then?"

Kagami nods weakly, "I don't think it will be the last time either," she says, picking herself up once more, "at least we know we'll have help every now and then."

"Indeed..." Kieros says, before passing one of the wooden tiles to Kagami. "They carried these... something that appears to know things about the Pokemon..."

Kagami takes it, "I think I've heard of these before," she says, "not sure where, but, they will be useful," she goes over to the ghosts, "we should take these two with us back to the village. My parents would be able to breed them for the villagers once they're revived."

"It may be wise... though with Kith injured, I would be of no real assistance in controlling them..." Kieros says, thinking. "Still, there will be other Pokemon near here... perhaps I can find another to ally with. Tola, Kiir..." he says to the two warriors, "Help Kagami return them to the boats. I will join you shortly." With that, Kieros turns, making his way back into the forest.

You see a bright red yellow and blue bird hanging off the trunk of a tree with little claws in its wings. It has a big head, almost more like a reptile than a bird.

Smiling, Kieros points the wooden token at the creature, looking at the information for a minute. "A being of wind and stone... come. Join your strength with mine..." he says quietly as he slips a spiritstone into his hand, his other gesturing to create a gentle gust of wind swirling around the bird.

"That's not good," Kagami says, "that's really not good," she continues, "I'll be back," she says, going after Kieros.

The bird flits over to a nearer trunk, watching you carefully.

Kieros approaches the bird carefully, the spiritstone still concealed in his hand. "We both share bonds with nature... you are born of wind and stone, and I have learned to touch the powers of wave and snow. Will you come with me, and help me to learn the ways of earth and sky?"

"It's gone," Kagami says, breathing a little heavily, "we returned and no one was there and the boats were gone, like they were never there."

"Gone..." Kieros says, taken aback. "Show me," he says, striding back towards the shore.

You arrive and find Tola and Kiir standing at the beach. There aren't even any footprints in the sands to give a clue to where everyone has gone.

Kieros mutters as he looks around, before turning to the two warriors. "Did you see anything when you arrived? Any signs of what might have happened here?"

A loud noise comes from within the jungle. It sounds like a large animal.

"I don't think that's a good noise," Kagami says, she turns to the slakoth, "you may want to run little guy," she tells it as she pulls her bow and nocks an arrow.

The Slakoth doesn't let go.

Kieros turns to the noise, and scowls, before pulling out the spirit stone holding his newest ally. Narrowing his eyes, he holds out his other hand, and says, "Give me a spear."

Kieros nods, grasping the spear firmly, and listens for the noise, to see if it's approaching them.

Nothing happens. The noise goes off again, sounding like it's coming from deeper in.

Kagami shivers, "should we go see what it is, or leave it be and continue along the shoreline to see if we can spot the others?" she asks, they may have moved because of a pokemon appearing. There was no blood or sign of a struggle, so she wasn't willing to say they were dead yet.

Looking into the forest for a moment, Kieros shakes his head, and puts away the spiritstone. "We will leave it for the moment... now is not the time for us to hunt."

"What is that?" Tola points off toward the sea. There is a faint dark shape moving on the water, like a canoe but far larger than any boat you have ever seen.

Kieros looks out at the figure moving on the ocean, trying to make out what it is.

It is a massive wooden boat, with a large sail made from the skin of some sort of enormous beast. It is heading toward the shore at great speed for its size.

Kieros nods, saying, "It would be best to watch from a place where we can strike unnoticed, if needed." He then looks around, seeking a potential hiding place.

A few minutes pass before the boat comes by. Its deck is filled with more of the black skinned men and foul, corrupted looking pokemon. It passes by where you were, close enough so that they surely would have seen you had you stayed on the shore. Some men jump off as the boat goes by, carrying large wooden cages connected to poles they carry over their shoulders. Fierce looking humanoid creatures walk alongside them, black skinned with white claws. They enter the jungle, not noticing the four of you.

"We have to leave, now," Kagami whispers, this was not a good place to be, they'd have to get another boat and get off the island ASAP or end up dead, or worse.

The group of monstrous men and their creatures walk less than five feet from where you hide, but don't notice you. Moments later, they have disappeared into the jungle.

Kieros scowls as he watches the figures walk into the jungle. "Whatever that beast is that we heard, I would guess that is their target. But there are too many of them... it would be unwise for us to fight. We must find our way off this island and back to Kokikiiaru, so that we can prepare the village." He turns, and begins leading the group away from the large ship, staying within the trees in the hope of going unnoticed.

"We should be careful to stay off the beach." Kiir says. "There is no cover out there, and another beast ship may come, or we may be seen by men hiding in the jungle."

Kagami moves out of the way and pulls her empty spirit stone, but doesn't throw it, and in fact, makes a sushing noise as she stares the cat in the eye, blinking slowly after a moment, a trick she picked up that supposedly was a sign of respect among cats.

The cat returns Kagami's stare, but is startled by the appearence of Zeien. It hisses angrily at the Archen.

Kagami tries to calm it down, "it's alright, you just startled us, it's a reflex," she says quietly to the cat, "just calm down a little, and we won't need to fight," she says, keeping her voice quiet.

Kieros looks between Kagami and the feline, and then nods, saying, "Zeien... come." He motions the Archen back, saying, "I should remember that you are skilled at calming them..."

The cat stays on its branch, still hissing, but not attacking either.

Kagami bows slightly, "thank you for understanding," she says, "come on," she whispers, "it's still annoyed so it's best not to linger," she continues, and cautiously walks away from it, though she scans it with the new device before getting out of range, making sure to not appear threatening.

Kieros nods, pulling out his own wooden token and holding it towards the Pokemon to see what he can learn as he follows Kagami's lead.

The Purrloin glares at you as you leave. "We must be more careful." Kiir says, "If the Purrloin had attacked, the noise might have alerted some of the beast men. If we wander about in the daytime, it makes us more likely to run into danger. We should wait until the sky is dark before we try to get off the island."

Nodding, Kieros says, "Still, we must find a safe place to wait - and rest - until then." He continues on with the group, moving through the trees and looking for a place where they can hide until nightfall.

Despite Kieros's pitiful attempt at stealth, stumbling through the bushes, snapping twigs and stepping on a small animal that yelps loudly, no one hears you. You find a place for all of you to hide, and the Slakoth climbs up a tree and hangs from it inconspicuously.

Three of the beast men come by. Almost immediately, one holds up his hand and points directly at where Kieros is hiding. He barks something in a strange language and he and one of the others let loose their spirit stones, releasing a grey doglike hyena a small brown crocodile. The other one throws his spear at Kieros.

Kieros grunts in pain as the spear hits him, and says, "They have found us! Fight! Zeien, go! Strike down the hyena!" He orders the bird forward, and even as it soars at the canine, he picks his own spear up and charges forward at his assailant.

Kieros spins around, striking out at the beastman again with the spear even as he calls out, "Now, Zeien! Quickly, strike down the other!" The bird Pokemon screeches, and darts at the crocodile.

Growling a curse at the beastman, Kieros lashes out with his spear again, while saying, "Zeien! Unleash the fury of the earth!" Zeien releases another cry, sending a large rock at the beastman.

Kagami nods, "unless we take out the other one, we'll likely be swarmed, but, even if we move, they'll be able to track us at this point, we'll need to move fast or find a way to hide ourselves completely."

Kieros glances up, and says, "We move. Now." Snatching the items from the beastman's corpse, he calles Zeien to him and begins moving through the trees once again.

Kagami turns to the Slakoth and sees if it would be willing to continue travellign with her, and if not, waves goodbye, she wouldn't be seeing him again most likely if he didn't come with her, then follows the others in a hurry, "we should stay out of the open, it'd be too easy for them to spot us without cover."

The slakoth latches on to Kagami's back.
You race through the jungle. Behind you are the sounds of loud barking and hollering as the beast men approach. You find a place to hide and crouch down as beast men carrying torches run by in the distance. The loud roar comes again, terrifyingly close. Then you hear the footsteps. Whatever it is, the creature is big, and it is very close to where you are.

A strong hand suddenly clasps around your mouth.
"Don't make a noise." the person behind you whispers.

Kieros watches the beastmen run by apprehensively, one hand on Archen to keep the bird calm, the other hand on the ground as he looks around, at the same time using his power to try and locate the great beast through the vibrations in the ground.

Kagami freezes, going very rigid, Stinger, on the other hand, was buzzing quietly, obviously angry about someone treating its friend that way.

The strong arms turn you around and you find yourself face to face with Chakas. He puts a finger to his lips.
"Don't say anything." he whispers. "Get the others to follow me. If we stay here, the black monsters will find us, and take us to the middle of the island like they did to the villagers."

Kagami calms down seeing who it is, and nods, tapping the others' shoulders to get them to come along.

Kieros turns at the tapping on his shoulder, and blinks, seeing Chakas there. "Chakas?" he whispers, looking at the warrior curiously.

"There is no time to explain. Just follow."
He begins to lead you through the undergrowth. "I came in a kayak, so we can not use it four all five of us. There is one of the giant boats near here that we can steal."

Kieros nods, and replies, "Your assistance is welcome, Chakas. Lead the way." He then follows the warrior, Archen trailing behind him.

Kagami nods and follows, but notes that it's strange he just showed up like that...

After some time, Chakas leads you to a rock outcropping over the water. Down below is one of the big boats, illuminated by the moonlight. Six beast men and six of the white clawed pokemon stand guard.
"We should be able to take the boat back to Kokikiiaru, but we will need a distraction to get the guards away. I do not like our chances against twelve enemies."

Chakas seems sincere in his desire to help, though you could be wrong.

Kagami looks down, "I don't know how we'd get them off, they're too dangerous for one of us to try getting them out, and those clawed ones don't look friendly. I'm good with ranged combat, and Stinger can hit at range... does anyone else have pokemon that can hit at range?"

"Zeien can launch stone at a distance," Kieros replies. "Though with the number they have, I hesitate to attempt a direct assault." As he speaks, he pulls out his wooden token, holding it towards the white-clawed Pokemon to see what he can learn.

"Perhaps we could start a fire to distract them. Do any of you have a fire pokemon?"

"No..." Kieros says, "however... I can call forth flame myself. It is not strong, but it will be enough to start a larger fire."

"If you do this, they may go after you while the rest of us take the boat. Do you think you can escape them?"

Kieros looks at the figures in the boat for a long moment, silently watching. "It is doubtful..." he says, finally, looking out at the ship. "Even were I uninjured, I could not say for certain. Injured as I am... while I could give you time to escape..." He trails off, before nodding to himself, a determined light in his eyes. "If I die to ensure that Kokikiiaru learns of this threat, then I have done my duty as a protector of our village. And rest assured, I will do all I can to ensure that they suffer for their actions here."

Kagami reaches into her pouch and pulls out a waterskin, "here, the water's enchanted to heal human wounds," she says, she then pulls Stinger off her back and whispers to it, causing it to buzz in protest, before seeming to resign itself, "Stinger will join you, he is in good health, and he can aid you should your archen fall," she says. She turns to the slakoth, "we'll be leaving the island soon, little one, now is the only chance to decide if you come with me or go on your own."

"Hurry." Chakas says. "We will wait long enough for you to catch up."

Nodding, Kieros takes the waterskin, and pulls out the blue-white spiritstone containing Kith. He hands the stone to Kagami, saying, "I shall keep your companion safe... I ask that you tend to mine once you can safely do so. Should I not return, then he shall serve you." Looking at the four of them, he says, "You will know when to move."

He drinks the water, feeling the magic restoring him, before moving through the trees with Zeien trailing him and Stinger on his shoulder, thinking. The flames I can conjure, on my own, may not be enough to draw their attention... but a pyre should suffice.

Once he gets far enough away that the others should go unnoticed, Kieros closes his eyes, reaching out to the plants around him. He says, "Zeien, we need dry twigs, leaves... anything that will burn. Can you do this?" The bird looks at him, and then begins poking around for fallen twigs and dried leaves, while Kieros begins willing the leaves of the trees around him to grow, and fall.

Once he is surrounded by a reasonably-sized pile of leaves, and whatever tinder Zeien can add, he stops focusing on the trees, and removes Stinger from his shoulder, placing the insect Pokemon a short distance away from the pile. "Stay... it would be dangerous for you to be too close." He returns to the center of the leaf pile, focusing on the leaves and tinder, willing the water within them to seep out of the leaves and into the ground around him.

After several minutes, Kieros finds himself standing in a pile of dried leaves and tinder. Nodding, he says, "Ho-oh... I ask you, guide me back to my home - and grant me the strength to fight for my people against this darkness." With that, he opens his eyes, a spark of flame jumping from his hand down to the pile of tinder, igniting it. His eyes take on an orange glow as he wills the flames to spread through the tinder, pushing the heat away from him in the process - and surging the flames upward, and outward towards the treeline, engulfing himself in a pillar of fire.

Kagami
The beast men and three of the pokemon run toward the immolating figure, leaving three of them behind.
Be ready to run. I am going to touch the mind of the beast that stalks this island, and things will become very dangerous. I can drive it mad for a time, but I can not stop it from killing you and your companions.

Kieros
Your spectacle has attracted more than just the boat guards. In the roaring fire light you can see black figures approaching through the trees. You are quickly surrounded on all sides by beast men and their corrupted looking pokemon.
Suddenly, the sound of men screaming pierces through the trees, followed by a loud and angry roar. The treeline explodes into a purple fireball, and a massive bipedal monster storms into the firelight, grabbing a beast man in its mighty jaws and snapping him in half.
All the men and pokemon begin to scatter, screaming and shoving at eachother to escape the enraged beast.

Kagami
You see the entire scene from afar.

"That does not look good," Kagami says, feeling she'd be saying it a lot on this 'quest,' "let's move," she says, pressing a spirit stone to the slakoth's forehead.

With a shout, Kieros forces the flames outward from him, to create a protective circle around himself, Zeien and Stinger just long enough for him to pick up the Archen and Kakuna, placing the latter on his shoulder and holding the former in the arm not carrying his spear. He then opens a path through the flames towards the shore, and the boat, running towards the boat - and salvation.

(If he sees the remaining Pokemon, and is close enough to initiate combat)
Seeing the Pokemon remaining on the boat, he launches the bird into the air, and calls, "Zeien! Take them!"

Running for it. If he gets close enough to the Sneasels, and can make an attack, Archen will use Rock Slide - AC: [roll0] v. 4, [roll1] Rock Damage plus [roll]2d8+6[/rolll] on Crit.

The rocks crash onto the sneasels, taking down two of them. The other one runs when it sees the giant creature killing its allies.

Chakas leads Kagami, Tola and Kiir to the giant boat. "I was almost hit by one of these on the way over. The boat uses a sheet of skin to catch the wind, but it also has giant paddles like a canoe." He points to the oars.

OOC: Zeien gets 500xp.
If you guys use the oars, I need a strength check to see how fast you go with them. Kagami might want to focus on steering here.

Kieros nods, and says, "I am unable to call forth enough wind to move something this size... we row. Kagami will guide us back." He sits at one of the oars, waiting for the others to do so as well before beginning to row.

Kieros and the other men all grab oars and try to push out, but the boat is big and four men are not enough to move it quickly. It slowly lumbers out from the beach and into the water, but not fast enough to escape the attention of the giant monster. A blast of purple flame engulfs the back of the boat, blowing the bow to splinters and catching Kagami in it. Her unconcious body falls into the water as the ship begins to tilt backwards.

Kieros, focused on moving the boat, only glances back at the sound of the blast, the shudder ripping through the boat, and Kagami's scream of pain. Seeing the girl fall from the boat into the water, he abandons his oar and rushes over, leaping off the side after her.

Kieros is too worn out from his ordeals, and he and Kagami both begin to sink.

Just as it seems all hope is lost, a hand reaches down and pulls you up. Kiir is grabbing Kieros around the shoulders and hauls him and Kagami up onto the floating wreckage.
Coming from around the island is another one of the big ships, glowing with torchlight.

Kieros sputters and coughs as he is pulled up from the water along with Kagami, looking around and seeing Kiir helping him onto the wreckage, and Chakas and Tola nearby. Seeing the ship approaching in the distance, he scowls, saying, "It seems our only options... are to be captured by the dark ones... or to face down that great beast..."

"I have seen what those black monsters do." Chakas says, "The belly of a beast may be preferable."

Nodding, Kieros says, "Is there a smaller boat... or even just a piece of wood that will carry us? I can... I can try to move us to shore... but my strength is not enough to carry this entire ship."

There isn't.

Cursing as he fails to find anything suitable, Kieros says, "Nothing..." Kieros looks back towards the shore, and says, "Chakas is right. If we are to die... let it be at the hands of a mighty creature. Let us die as warriors of Kokikiiaru, rather than at the mercy of those monsters. Come... bring Kagami, and let us face our end. Perhaps Ho-oh will see fit to guide us." With that, he turns, making his way off the sinking ship and towards the shore.

The dragon is chasing what remains of the group of men and pokemon into the jungle. The big ship goes past the wreckage of your craft and drifts off.

"It seems that Ho-oh is watching over us after all..." Kieros says, watching the dragon vanish into the trees. "Come... we need shelter, and rest." He then leads the group along the beach, looking for a place that they can hopefully hide and rest for the night.

"There..." Kieros says, leading the group towards the area of thick branches. Once everyone is situated, he reaches out to the plants, willing the branches anf foliage nearby to grow thicker, to better shield them. Once he has done what he can, he turns to the group, saying, "We should be safe... let us rest."

Spending a bit of time using Elemental Prestidigitation to better hide us by making the plant life thicker.

The night passes without attack. In the distance, the dragon's rampage continues for a while before eventually dying down. Whether the beast was killed, subdued or simply calmed down is unknown.
When morning finds you, you are woken by Chakas. "You are going to want to see this."

Kieros pushes himself to his feet, and nods at Chakas, looking around quietly. "What is it?" he whispers.

He puts his finger to his lips and leads you to the edge of the trees. Out in the water are seven more of the big ships, heading quickly toward the island.

"It was strange. The boats ran into some of the others, and they began to fight. They destroyed the black monster's ships with fire."

"I see..." Kieros says. "Still, it is not important. We must find our own way off of this island, and back to Kokikiiaru." Kieros turns back towards their shelter, and pulls out Kith's Spiritstone. Releasing the seal Pokemon, he pulls out a small jar containing an herbal salve and administers the medicine to the Pokemon. He then recalls Zeien and wakes the others.

"What should we do?" Tola asks.
"It will be difficult to steal another big boat in daylight." Chakas says.

Kieros looks over at Kagami's still unconscious form. "Our chances will be better if she is able to aid us..." Kieros says, quietly. "Tola, Chakas, remain here. We will hunt, and see if we can find another way off the island. We will return here, though."

After several hours of searching for decent prey, you and Kiir find a family of fifteen small furry animals with buck teeth by a pool of water.

Kieros pulls out his wooden token and holds it towards the creatures, seeing what he can learn.

Kieros nods at Kiir, motioning for him to move forward around one side of the beaver-like Pokemon. He himself moves towards the others, while Kith moves towards the center of the group. Kieros lashes out with a spear at one of the Pokemon near the edge of the group, while Kith sends out a blast of chilling snow, covering three of them.

Kieros nods, saying, "That was quite simple..." He shrugs, before continuing his search for a way off the island, Kiir in tow.

As you blunder through the jungle, you soon find yourself at the end of a spearpoint held by a man with pure white skin, like clouds. A group of at least nine others like him surround you and Kiir.
"Who are you?" he states in perfect Kokii (the language you speak).

Kieros blinks, and replies, "I am Kieros, of Kokikiiaru village. And who are you?"

"I was speaking to your leader." he says, pointing at the older Kiir.

"And it was our leader that answered you," Kieros replies. He closes his eyes, and wills an aura of light to form around himself. Opening his eyes again, he says, "Do not judge me solely by my age... I am Champion of Kokikiiaru, blessed by the Great Ones to wield the elements themselves."

"I am Hylim of the Cresa people. We found your companions earlier and brought them aboard one of our ships. You need to come with us."

Kagami
You wake up. A man with pure white skin is kneeling over your body, holding a waterskin. He shouts something you can't understand at somebody else. You are on the deck of a boat surrounded by other cloud colored men. Chakas and Tola sit nearby.

"I am curious..." Kieros says, watching the pale man for any deception. "How is it that you found them, when I made certain the shelter was concealed? The trees and plants themselves aided me in the task."

Kagami stares up at the sky, eyes half lidded, last thing she remembered was flames, and now she's surrounded by white skinned people that could very well be angelic in nature, either she was dead or she was rescued by these people.

Suddenly, her eyes widen and she bolts upright, "Stinger," she says, looking for her Kakuna or his pokeball, same with Kusamura.

"Our dogs sniffed them out. At first we thought they were the Rainu(pronounce Rie-nu) so we flushed them out. After finding out who we are, they agreed to bring the girl back to our ship to be healed."

Kagami
The two spirit stones lay next to you, along with your other possessions.

Kieros listens to the man, before nodding. "Then you have our thanks... you will take us to them?"

Hylim and his men take you to the beach, where a small fleet of ships sits in the water. You board a canoe and head toward the nearest one.

Kagami picks up the spirit stones with a sigh of relief, then she looks around, "ano, where am I?" she asks with a tilt to her head.

Kieros enters the canoe with the others, looking at the ship, pondering. "Why is it that you came here?"

"They called themselves the Cresa." says Tola. "They brought us up here. They were very interested in you. Thye kept looking at your hair and talking amongst each other.

Kieros
"We are the enemies of the Rainu. We followed a small group of them here. I believe your village ran afoul of them."

"I was told it was given to me by a sea spirit," Kagami says, "and I had confirmation of it not long before we left, it's why Kieros brought me along."
