View Full Version : How to Avoid or Escape a Grapple?

Greetings.

I am currently in a PBP campaign where we are versing a Sea Serpent, and it just got me in a grapple. It has a CMB of 32+. I am extremely stuck.

My question is, what could I have done/bought/chosen that would have helped me get out of this grapple? Assume you have a budget of 50,000gp, and I am a summoner.

Thoughts?

You need a Freedom of Movement effect. Scroll down to the Freedom of Movement section in this link (www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=187851) to find the item that fits your price range and needs.

Enter Escape Artist.
A casting of Grease and the Alchemical Grease (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/equipment---final/goods-and-services#TOC-Alchemical-Grease) would give you +15, a Headband of Vast Intelligence (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic-items/wondrous-items#TOC-Headband-of-Vast-Intelligence) item gives you a (non stacking) full HD in ranks in a particular skill, so however many that is, but with a 50,000 gp budget I would say at least 10, +25, a Masterwork tool (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/equipment---final/goods-and-services#TOC-Tool-Masterwork)of Escape Artist for +2 ( fluff it as lard), +27, and Salve of Slipperiness (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic-items/wondrous-items#TOC-Salve-of-Slipperiness) for another +20 so, for a heck of a lot cheaper than an item of Freedom of Movement, at least +47 plus your Dex, so you could be beat that DC easily.

Thing is that you can't cast in a Grapple, not without making a concentration check of DC 35+.

Could you apply the salve/otherwise while grappled?

Any form of blink, d-door or teleportation effect would do it.

Anklets of translocation, ring of blink, etc.

Freedom of movement effects would do it.

Or.. make yourself really unappetising to grapple

So, something that means you deal damage to anyone who touches you. There are a lot of these effects, from ring of blades to fire sheild, to burnose of the 1000 thorns, etc.
