It is late morning in this fine first day of spring, the sun is clear and a light breeze chills your weary bones as you step out of the traveling caravan. The road to Mohora was long and tedious, with constant need of maintaining the caravan and the escort's weapons.

Grimsiad Shuldek, the caravan's leader, a tough little dwarf with a nasty cough, let you join without question. He steps down, instructing the drivers and then aids the unpacking before turning to you.

"Aye, sorry for all the trouble on the road. Ain't what you signed up for, was it? Let me make up for it, eat with us, my treat, and I'll pay for a room for ya for the day. Watcha say, this one looks good?" He points at a tavern they stopped by, Etbren's Fire.

"It was no great trouble." he smiles slightly "I have travelled enough to know how such things occasionally are. And it looks good indeed." he says as he looks around before continuing "Perhaps you would know someone interested in my skills." as he follows behind.

"I'm sure you'll find something sooner or later, I heard the last winter was hard on Mohora." Grimsiad says as he enters Etbren's Fire, followed by few of the others.

The place is empty at this time of day, and you notice the halforc barkeep chatting with a barmaid with an large scar over her hand, while passing a cloth mop over the counter.

Grimsaid sits down and waves the rest of you, while signing towards another barmaid. "Well hello there!" She says as she passes her arm over Grimsaid's back, moving to you and putting her arm on your shoulder, her face quite close to yours.

"I'm Karris, and I'll be serving you today. We are still serving breakfast, so you can order sop in wine, peppered bread or beef. What would you like?"

Grimsaid doesn't consider for long before answering. "We'll have beef and peppered bread. I'll take a mug of heavy beer, this one will have spiced ale, liking it fancy, don't ya think, and I heard your spiced brew mead is quite good, so she will take that." He waves at the others before turning to you. "What for ya to drink?"

He smirks slightly "A mug of heavy beer, old Kildrirr would punish me if i drank anything else." he pauses slightly and with a lower tone of voice but with some humour "In public that is."

Kildrirr Urgagirn, a fairly old dwarf. Extremely harsh taskmaster while on the job, otherwise a fairly jovial dwarf. A very successful Blacksmith.

"Right away" Says Karris and pats your arm before walking towards the barkeep. He pours a few mugs as she walks into the kitchen.

Grimsiad glances at you, "Ya know Kildrirr? You can see some of his work around the city, I had the chance to sell some of it too. How do you know him?"

Before you can answer, you notice Karris bringing out a large plate full of beef and peppered bread out of the kitchen. She brings it to you while the other barmaid mumbles something under her breath and brings you the drinks.

"Enjoy!" Karris declares, "If you need anything," she passes around the table, putting her hands on your shoulders "Just give me a call."

Both of them leave, and you can hear the second barmaid telling Karris "One of these days you'll get stabbed for all that touching."

Hearing the second barmaid Anderson checks his body and pack for anything missing while answering Grimsaid's question "He was my mentor, and the one that taught me most of my skill in making weapons, armour and everything else with metal." he remarks with fond memories of the massive forge that was his home for many years.

"My thanks Grimsiad." he says as he gives him a firm handshake. With that he leaves the table and approaches the barkeep and asks "Greetings, would you give me directions towards some reputable Smiths, or Builders?" he says as his mind wanders slightly.

I assume it would be easier to find a job as an architect if i meet up with builders, otherwise Smith work is good.

The half orc examines you for a moment, before turning away to pour himself some ale. "If you are looking for some opportunity work, there are plenty of businesses looking for help renovating now that winter is finally over. Any blacksmith around would probably find work for a skilled worker, considering the rumors of trouble on the roads. You might find more solid work if you have some actual knowledge of roads, I heard the guard is looking for skill and knowledge for some road reconstruction. The King wants all cities to improve their roads, something about better trade or whatever..."

"Interesting, can you give me directions to where i can find more information about the road reconstruction? Its not my usual area, but i think i can handle it in a satisfactory manner." he says as his mind wanders slightly towards different construction methods.

Craft (Stonemasonry) combined with Knowledge (Architecture and Engineering) and i have it in the bag! I assume those are the needed skills to counter any problems.

If i use Profession (Architect) would i add +2 bonus from Stonemasory since it should apply to road construction?

The half orc shrugs "I dunno, look around. The guards probably know something." He sips from the ale and steps away from the counter, sitting on the chair. It is not too long that people will start coming for lunch.

And with that Anderson heads out, exploring and keeping an eye out towards a guard.

Anderson passes by a few shops, a small crowd of people and a few young men helping unpack a carriage before finding a group of four patrolling guards.

On the way, Anderson notes a small sheet of paper flying in the wind through the street. "Merla will take upon any eager man or woman as her apprentice at Merla's Smithy."

The small crowd seems to be talking about a wizard named Hervor Hach. Seems Hervor is a strong and capable wizard owning one of the most known magic shops in the kingdom, yet they wonder when he'll finally lose it, as there are rumors about his mental stability being... Shaky.

As he notices the small sheet of paper his mind wonders about his time under Old Kildrirr, if his plan to see about the road work fails, it should be interesting to see if she would accept him.

His exploration continues as he passes the small crowd, upon hearing the news his mind wonders, how it would have been if learning magic had been his fate, and he decides to visit the Wizard Hervor, if only to learn or see what magical goods he would have.

With that decided he soon notices a group of guards and quickly approaches to say "Greetings, i heard the guard is looking for those with skill and knowledge for road reconstruction, and i am an Architect." he pauses slightly "Although my main area is buildings i do feel i probably know enough about roads." he smiles slightly.

2012-07-14, 12:29 AM
"Enough architects applied!" Says one of the guards with great impatience, waving you off.

"Hey, wait a second." Another guard jumps. "There are enough roads, he should apply. Perhaps he's better than what we've got by now, or that another might find his aid useful. Give him a shot at least."

"It's a waste of time." Mumbles the first guard, but doesn't seem to care if the second replies.

The second guard directs you towards one of the government buildings, separate from the city hall. It's a short walk deeper into the city.

As you step away, one of the guards that remained silent walks up to you, "Hey, if you really want the job, you should know that the one hiring doesn't know much about building or design. He just looks for the cheapest methods. If you can't come up with a design that's cheaper, you should try to find some big flaw at another's work. That way, they can't just ignore the flaw and your chances will increase."

Vizzi
2012-07-14, 08:28 AM
"My thanks." he says with appreciation towards the guard as he heads towards the governmental building. His mind working in a frenzy as he thinks of cheat road designs and possible flaws in his opponents designs. He thinks back to his work as a Stonemason for ways to reduce the cost of making the road.

Anderson fails to think of anything road related, but hopes his knowledge of stone will help him clear the gaps as he enters into a small two story house. A couple of men are sitting by the window, drinking mead from half gallon mugs and chatting together. They glance at you shortly, before one of them saying, "If you came here to apply as an builder, sign your name and residence. If you want to be a city architect, take up a chart and show us some road design and costs... Otherwise, you came to the wrong place."

From a quick glance at the charts, you notice the charts have some great designs, a few over your league. But one of the designs seems odd to you. It seems to replace some of base stone for wood to cheapen the costs. The premise is alright, but not solid, and you notice a few places where the wood wouldn't be able to hold. A basic design would cost a bit more, but work far better, and if you copy some of the design ideas you just saw...

Vizzi
2012-07-15, 07:35 AM
Anderson quickly begins integrating some of the designs he just saw, while maintaining quality and reducing the costs as much as he can. Using his knowledge of stone work to try and do such. As he works he will point out towards the faulty design and explain why it would not work, taking care to mention that the reduced costs at constructions will be counteracted by a greater cost due to repairing and substituting the wood.

2012-07-16, 12:45 AM
One of the men seems a bit annoyed by Anderson's words. "That's a shame. One of the cheapest designs."

"I told you it wasn't as good as you thought it is." The other man notes. "It's better that way." Then he turns to you. "Well, your design doesn't seem an original, but that doesn't matter. You got the job. You'll be in charge of the construction of the southern road, which should reach the Rikter Village, for now. We'll assign you a budget for workers and supplies, it's up to you how to distribute them. You'll be payed 5 silver coin weekly with a bonus at the end of construction depending on how quickly you get it done. How does that sound?"

Vizzi
2012-07-17, 07:06 AM

"You could find plenty of cheap workers in the laborer's market, but you'll also need some more skilled builders to instruct and watch them, so you can seek them at the worker's guild." Says the first man. The other one seems to have lost interest and sits down by the table, pouring himself to drink.

"As for supplies," he continues, "you'll need to arrange for food and building material. You could look into some of the general stores for food supply, I'm sure some contract could be arranged. You should visit some butcher, some meat could help raise morale and hasten the work. But don't go nuts with that... Any unnecessary expenses might go out of your final pay, as well as it could lead to the workers delaying work for the better meals, which would come out of your pay as well... I'd say a couple of meals with meat a week should suffice."

"Then there is the building material. You could look some merchants in the bazaar or the guild, or ask around the worker guild for their contacts, perhaps manage to get a discount if you are already dealing with them..."

Vizzi
2012-07-20, 08:17 AM
"Good, good. Now three last requests, before i head out on my way." he smiles slightly "First a map with the part of the road i need to build highlighted. Secondly and thirdly directions towards the worker guild and laborer's market. Everything else should be easy to find." he pauses slightly "And with that i should be able to begin soon enough, after negotiating everything." and with all that dealt with he says his goodbyes alongside his thanks as he heads out towards the worker's guild.

"New to the city, are we?" The man smirks.

"Just give him the damn directions." The other man says as he pours some ale into two mugs.

"Sure sure..." He gives you a map and tells you how to get to the guild and market.

The worker's guild is located within the western side of the city and takes some time to get there. As Anderson approaches a shop signed Sorani's Parchment, the road seems to be blocked. Most people dispersed and avoiding the only escalating conflict. A half-elven woman in a poorly maintained pale-blue robe seems confronted by a four membered group. There are two highly armored human males, one holding a large axe, the other has a mace on his belt. The halfling wears light cloth clothes and a gnome wears dark leather armor.

There seems to be a shouting match at the moment, but things seem to be heating up and there is worry among the people watching the events.

Terence rounds the corner and sees the conflict brewing. He calmly, yet hastily makes his way closer to the group trying to get a feel for what transpired while still remaining out of harm's way. "Four on one hardly seems fair, even for a shouting match. Hopefully it will stay as that and not escalate into a fistfight." He notices the weapons the two men possess. "Or worse."

Sliver
2012-07-22, 08:48 AM
Whatever they are shouting, it seems only three members of the group seem to be in that argument, with the forth, the gnome, seems supporting but not very understanding, and both Anderson and Terence, both from the same side of the street, can understand why that is happening.

They argue in a different language.

Anderson fins that there are conveniently no guards around.

Even with Terence's wide array of languages, he is unable to understand a word they say. The gnome turns to you and back, barely noting you. "This damn woman has scammed us, selling us a bad batch of potions! Now she is refusing to compensate us. We nearly died because of her greed!"

The woman turns to the gnome. "Do not think you can spread such lies! My business is clean and my merchandise never fails to deliver!"

The halfling is the first to shout at her again, speaking more of the same unknown language. The woman returns to reply in the same tongue and the other men follow.

"This woman," One of the armed men says as he lifts his sword, pointing at her, "has betrayed us, tainted our confidence in the system. She does not deserve your protection, she has to pay!"

The shop explodes behind the figure, the flames envelope the woman, her scaly skin and lizard-like face glitters in the fire before vanishing.

The gnome spins the dagger and Terence jumps backwards, realizing the violent intent, but the gnome seems to really want to make an example and lungs forward as well, shadows leap around him and blur his position. Just as he is about to strike at Terence, his blade seems to split.

As Terence falls, the group begins to run away from the burning building. The woman quickly rushes forward, trying to determine if Terence is still alive while ignoring her destroyed shop.

It appears the dagger has gone quite deep and Terence is not only bleeding heavily, he is also not breathing.

Heh, Anderson could help her rebuild and renovate.

Before entirely leaving the scene... Would Anderson continue to the worker's guild or offer his aid to Sorani? Will he take two jobs, decide against working for the city for now, or ignore Sorani's situation...

Would it not be possible to do both? Considering i still need to get a handle for supplies and contracts, and other stuff. And building a road requires supervision, but i can likely easily juggle both situations.

If so will i get any penalties for accepting both?

There is a large spiral staircase leading both upstairs and downstairs by the corner of the hall. The food is mostly gone and the leftovers are being cleared by the cleaning staff while only a few men and even less women remain in the hall.

There are mostly humans and dwarfs in the room, a couple of half orcs and a few half elves. A small wooden door has a sign over it, Administration. To the side there is a double door leading to the kitchens.

"Stop it, Merla!" Gorlon stands up for Tosta. "You know it's just who she is. She bought you drinks too, quite a few times."
