The assassin quickly find a good ambush spot and wait for the goblin to come by. As it come within range, Jieung short the enemy who doesnt even register the hit and fall to the ground unconcious.
The mount slow down and look around. As it spot Jieung, it growl a little, but the assassin knows that the animal is tame enough to be approached and that he could use it as mount without any real trouble.

One more success for Jieung.

The assassin has no use for the mount; he can run almost as fast as the beast, and it will compromise his stealth. He tries to shoo it away, and then grabs the unconscious goblin and drags him away. He binds his prisoner, and then attempts to wake him up.

After a few seconds, he give up and look at the human fear plaainly written on his green face.

You know nothing, little one. The Snake Clan will fall; go find your wolf and scurry back to your army. They will need your warning; an army comes from Bord-Eau to take them from behind, lead by the heroes who destroyed your camp. Go tell them they have bigger worries than the Fort, little goblin. Do you understand?

After a few seconds of silence, the goblin dare to move and rise to his feets. He look unsure, but after a few more, he start to move tentatively toward his mount in the plain to the north.

If you let him go, he will get to his mount and ride east as fast as he could.

Run, little one. Hopefully, this buys the allies in the Fort some time, mutters the assassin to himself as he watches the goblin ride away for a moment. He then turns back to the task at hand; getting through that siege to approach the Fort. With the winds as strong as they are, Jieung opts for the stealthy method.

Stealth: [roll0]. +1 when it involves being quiet (Footpads), +1 when it involves being unseen (Camouflaged Clothing).

Jieung look at the goblin riding toward the goblin camp keeping Fort-Du-Col under siege.
Once the creature is far enough, he resume his way otward the fort, trying to use the very few features the land provide to keep as hidden as possible. He manage to travel for about half an hour without trouble, keeping one of the small patch of trees between himself and the enemy camp, trying to keep low profile in the few small vales. But as he run on a flat area, a small goblin patrol of 5 riders comes out of the grove ahead and notice him. The goblins spur their wolf mount and rush toward Jieung, one of them taking time to blow the horn.

Did Jieung got taught the horn code when he joined? I dont recall he had, but he might...

Jieung fail his stealth check (hard Dc = 17)... 2nd failure.

What do he do?

You can reach many different features close by before they catch up with you (a small grove of trees, a small vale or a abandonned barn).

Time Elapsed : 17 hours
Approximative time left to travel : 30 minutes (walking)

This time, the assasssin manage to move up to the enemies camp without being detected. He hides behind a few boulders by the mountain side and look at the camp. The camp cover the whole plain between the two muntain side. Trying to sneak throught the camp would be very hard, but maybe doable. There is a few guard on the look out, but most of them look toward the camp and not much behind. The human also note that a few of them watch the sky, but only in the fort direction. The winds are still blowing hard around here and while flying isnt out of question, it would require some decent athletic skills.

The assassin has a thought. He begins crafting an illusion. As the being he's crafting takes shape, he sews the goblin's mouth shut, so it won't have to answer questions. He gives it a staff of wood, and robes of green and brown. When he is done with his handiwork, he gives it a quick nod of approval before shifting into his bird form and flapping alongside the image.

The assassin fly in the camp with his weird goblin image. The image get noticed but none seem too concerned with the bird pet flying about.
As Jieung walks he spot the small goblin he captured sooner speak with a heavyly built bugbear to the left. The bugbear appear powerful and bear the Snake clan mark. He is surrounded by a dozen strong guards.

Not wasting a second you keep moving hoping that no one decide to try interact with your illusion too much. After about 5 minutes, you are throught the camp and you can see the fort ahead. You are quite surprised when you note that it doesnt look like to have sustained any assault. But you do see many human heads on pikes in the fields, a sure sign there have been battle.

The assassin stop his illusion and fly as fast as possible to the fort in the open feild his decoy fade being out of range. You are nearly at the fort when an arrow miss you by an inch. You keep going forward to comes out of range and when you look back, you spot a goblin that look at you with a bow in hand to the south. A few seconds later, you hear some comotion in the enemy camp as your illusion disappear.

You fly up above the wall and glance upon the fort. It isnt a very large building, about an 150 feet wide, completly blocking the Neck Peaks pass. Its purpose is quite clear to you : to block and control whatever comes and goes into the pass. Looking at the fort itself, you can estiamate that at full capacity, there probably isnt much more than an 100 soldiers in the place, and right now, it look even less. You spot 20 soldiers atop the wall looking at the goblin enemies and 2 or 3 on the other side watching the pass. On the ground, there is an other score of mens scattered.

There is only a few building on the ground : A barrack, stables, some sort of common bulding that probably serve as meal place and inn for travellers and a keep against the north side of the mountain.

The moral of the defenders seem quite low right now.

What do you do?

I am Shi Jieung, mercenary. I work for a Tong, merchant guild, in a far-off land. My employers wish to do business with this continent; business is bad if the continent is ruled by little green ones, so I help to get rid of them, explains the assassin. I interrogated a messenger on my way here; the goblins want to attack at dawn, but I told them Bord-Eau army is coming up from behind them; the lie might delay them a day, but not much longer.

The man look at Jieung for a few seconds, then relax a little.
"Come then, I'll have you meet the constable. Lorne and Mason, with me."
The soldiers keep their weapon in hand, but does not threathen Jieung as they escort him toward the keep. The two guards at the door look at the group, but say nothing and let you all pass.
You enter a large main room with a few soldiers. you can sense that morale is quite low at the fort looking at the few mens you encountered so far. You are led in a small corridor and the soldier leader knock to the door, but doesnt wait for an answer and push it open.
The door reveal a small room with a table in the middle. On the table, you see a map of the area, similar to the one in the Snake clan leader hut, but with more details.
Around the table, you see three mens and an elven maiden. The elven woman and two mens wear the same tunic as the soldiers, but the other man look more like some adventurer. From what you can gather at first glance, the leader must be the older man and it is confirmed when he says,
"What is it Carol? Any movement on the enemies part?"

The soldier who quesitonned you reply,
"Not yet sir. But this man appeared out of nowhere and claim to have informaitons on the enemies."

The constable turn his attention to Jieung and inspect him for a few moments, then say,
"Return to you posts. You, who are you exactly? Did Bord-Eau sent you?"
It is easy to note that the man is quite stressed and surely under pressure right now. He still contain it and appear in control, but he did let out some frantic hope in his tone as he asked about Bord-Eau.

I am Shi Jieung, market scout for a Tong, merchant guild, in my homeland of Shen Zhu. The Tong wishes to trade with this land, but it cannot do so if it is conquered and sacked by the little green ones. So, I will assist the people of this region until it is safe for trade, explains the assassin. My allies and I come from Bord-Eau, but do not expect help from them; they do not know you are besieged here. I lied to the goblins to make them think Bord-Eau was coming to attack, but the scout I captured mentioned that they want to attack at dawn. My lie might purchase a day, no more. My masters in the Tong do not employ me for nothing, choro. My people, the hengeyokai, have talents you humans do not, explains Jieung. We might have a little less mens than they have, but behind these walls, they will find that numbers doesnt count as much."

Have you a mage in this fort who might be able to cast a Sending? I would like to contact my employers and give them the codes for the circle of teleportation whose coordinates I secured. They might be able to deliver some relief to this position if contacted in a timely manner.

I know a DM's instinctive reaction is to shut down an idea like this; after all, its no fun for important NPCs to swoop in and get rid of the enemies for the PCs. Just want to remind you that the Tong is not a "merchant guild" but a crime syndicate, and that bringing them into the region might help get rid of goblins, but could also make things much worse for the players and leave all sorts of room for evil DMing, since they've already completed one contract for these criminals :smalltongue:. Just wanted to throw it out as a possibility that would be interesting; an excuse to swap Jieung back for Ace, too, since he'd then become an enemy.

"No we dont anymore, or we would had contacted Bord-Eau already. We lost Herbert in the first battle..."
The man look sad talking about the battle, but add,
"When we first spoted the goblins a few days ago, their were only a score or so of them, so we sent a brigade. But it was a trap, as many more where hidden in the forest and well it didnt turn out very well, we lost many good soldiers that day, including our ever eager mage. Would one of your friend be able to do it? I'd give my right arm to be able to communicate with Bord-Eau."

I agree and will keep this idea in mind :).
It is just not logic to have a mage able to do sendings here and that the city never got news of the fort. :smalltongue:

This is too bad... my masters among the Tong would be a boon here. Alone, I am limited in what I can do. Ten or twenty of those like me, however, and the goblin advance could be stopped... muses the Jieung. For now, sir, I shall remit myself to your command. I can carry messages, gather intelligence or lend my bow and blades to your cause. If this fort falls, my masters will be disappointed upon their arrival. The other young man reply the the elf,
"To what end Larnia? Bord-Eau doesnt an army to lend us support with anyway, and I doubt they will send their militia to help right now with the possibilities of goblins future attacks."
The woman shrug,
"Well they need to know what is happening here at least. From what this man tell us, they have no idea of our status."
The man who had kept silent until now, the one who isnt a soldier living at the fort say,
"That all good, but we could use a man like him around, if not only to check out the enemies, but also when the times comes to defend the place. Heck, we could also use his friends."
The three look at each others for a few seconds, then turn their attention to the leader of the fort. The constable look at them, still taking afew moments to gather his thought and say,
"You're right Larnia, Bord-Eau do need to learn of our situation, but Mathias is right, we can use this man help right now."
The human leader turn his attention to Jieung again and say,
"We sure can use your help here. I am Constable Fabrice Farlan, in charge of Fort-Du-Col. I'd ask you to gather information on the enemies, but your bird guise probably wont work as well as you think. We did send some pigeon with messages for the main city, but the goblins shot them down. You were actually lucky not to have been shot as you flew over their camp. How many friend do you have out there? Because with the lost we suffered when we faced them outside, we sure could use a few more hands to defend this place when the time comes. I am still unsure if it would be better to have them in here, or simply keep you out there to damage their back, if you see what I mean."

"It will be a good thing when they attack actually. From the wall we shall be able to decrease their number from 150 to 100 with archers while they make their way to the wall. By the time to breach the door or manage to climb up, we probably will cut that in half."
Looking at her, you realise she probably is the officer in charge of the archers squads here.
The other solider nod and add,
"My mens can sure take care of what will be left hand to hand. And when they flee, we'll be able to hunt and clear what is left of the scums."
Fabrice nods and tells Jieung,
"I guess you should join up with your friend and stay behind the enemy line. If you can kill a few of their patrols, it would decrease their numbers even further. And when we push them back and flee, you'll be there to stop them and kill them, or at least reduce their number killing the smaller groups. How is this?"

The others keep silent as the man continues,
"We need to take some offensive action, to make them fear us, put a strain on their alliance. We must do something."
The younger soldier nod grimly,
"I am starting to beleive you're right. If we do a quick strike with half Larnia's archer, fight hard and quick, then back up to the fort and let the rest of our archers rain death upon the b-"
The human leader stop the two mens mounting momentum.
"With the mens we have left, even counting your mercenary group, our lost would be heavy if we go out to face them. We already experienced this. And knowing that an other army is coming to reinforce them, loosing too much mens at this point means we wont be able to hold the fort when these attack."
Larnia nod,
"Our best bet is to prepare and hold the fort. We could use some allies, maybe we will get some help from Villenoire soon. The longer we hold, the more chances we have to receive help from the messenger we sent there. And we have this young man and his 3 friends. These guys seem at ease ambushing goblins from what he say. With some good guerrila tactics, they may decrease the enemies numbers and put some havoc into the enemies forces."
She look at Jieung, and her words make everyone in the room look at Jieung.
The human leader let a few second slip by, then ask,
"Do you think you and your friends can do that? Maybe you can slow down the enemies reinforcements or kill patrolls. Taking some of their attention could help us a lot here. I am not asking you to get yourselves killed, but giving us as much support as you can from out there."
The man scratch his skin, then add,
"And if you're in a tought spot and need to come here, we sure would accept you. I dont assume all your friends can fly, but we could had a few knoted ropes for you to climb over the wall."

The constable nod and rise.
"Excellent. I'll escort you out, we were in need of some break anyway. Well resume this meeting in half an hour or so."
The other nod and leave the room, while Fabrice comes out with you. When you are alone with the man in the corridor, he low his voice a little and say quickly,
"I didnt want to alarm or break my officers morale, but if thing turn out badly, I count on you to warn the city about what happened here so they can react to it. So be careful and dont play hero. Do what you can."
You can sense in the man voice that he does really consider it possible that the fort will fall with the news your given him. He hesitate before saying the next part, and you can see that he weight his words, keeping vague about it.
"If the fort do fall, my mens and I will withdraw to the Big Woods (Grand Boisé on map), north of the lake."

Once outside, the man wish you luck and direct a young soldier to give you the supplies you need.

After that, you climb the wall and check outside at the enemies camp. finding what you beleive will be the safest way out, with less sentries with bows, you morph into your bird guise and fly out high. With the wind on your back, you have no trouble at all going west and when one of the goblin spot you, it is too late to shoot at you anyway.

You fly west, keeping an eye on the feild for your allies. You take a few moments to check out the small groves and find out that there is a few small patrols of about 6 to 10 goblin hidden and on watch in each of the 3 groves.

After about 45 minutes, you didnt see any sign of your friends and find a nice spot in a very tell tree where you can see a large section of open ground in both directions up to the mountains range. From that spot, you are pretty sure you would spot anyone who try to go by. Bellow you, dihhen in the forest, you see a band of 12 goblin position and waiting.

You wait for about 45 minutes, and around noon, you finaly spot one of your friend on the northen side. Ashe is running after some half-orc ridding a wolf, trying to stop him with the help of some orc. They do what cthey can, but with the wolf mount, the creature have no trouble outrunning them. ashe adn the orc quickly turn tail and withdraw back behind an hill at the foot of the mountains.

The goblins bellow probably didnt see Ashe since they arent as high as you, but they spot the ridding Half-orc who is heading for the goblin camp that beseige the fort. You realise that you wont be able to intercept the fleeing enemy in time in your bird form, and going there in human form would draw the goblin bellow after you and you arent sure you'd made it in time anyway.

The goblin bellow you spot the fleeing creature. themselves in goblin, but decide to keep their position.

Unsure of what your friend is doing with an orc and what they will do you wait a minute then you see them all, including the orc, climg a bit in the mountain and dissapear in what look like a small cave. In your bird form, you esttimate it would take you about 15 to 20 minutes to get to them and you set out flying right away. After about 5 minutes, you notice that a goblin ridding a wolf is leaving the goblin camp on the road, which runs along the southern mountain range.

You see your allies comes out from the cavern and climb back down and heads a bit west before dissapearing behind the hills. You keep flying and once you are roughly where you friend where, you land and use your human form to move faster. You manage to find their tracks and follow them. After dissapearing behind the western hills, they travelled south in a small valley. As you get near the mountain, you finaly spot them. They apparently captured the goblin ridding west from the camp.

Ok, I fast forwarded a bit, but I think it is best to do it that way.
If you want to talk a bit more with the leader or mens in fort, we can keep doing it here, but you should join back in the main game now in
NOTE : The goblin they capture is the exact same you you captured a few hours ago (whom you told about the fake army)

July 19th, 1500, 3:30 AM :
Taking his time not to get noticed as he fly above the enemy's camp, knowing full well that the enemies knows of his bird guise. It takes him about half an hour of flying from tent to tents to get where he wants. Jieung find a nice perch near the area where Gramliz is preparing his battle. A crude map is made of the area and he keep talking with the other leaders of his armies. The assassin is a patient person and take an other half an hour to inspect the bugbear and find some opportunity.

The creature is already eating, a plate with some roasted meat being on the table. The only problem is that many others are eatign from that plate as well. But you notice that the bugbear have his own mug from which he drinks from time to time. The only problem is that both of these are on the table and they leaders doesnt really leave the table at all.

Also, after looking at the enemies planning for about half an hour and the state of their preparation, you realise that the enemies are almost ready and probably will start the assault before dawn.

None seem to notice the hidden assassin and once they reach the tent corner, a few keep going, but Gramliz and a couple more stop and start to give orders. A few goblin enter the tents to search them, other goblin run around them to circles the area. To bugbear even grab one of the smaller goblin and throw him onto the tent top, motioning him to check the tops.

While I am pretty sure what you will do...What do you do next ?

In case your considering to fight the bugbear, he still have 2 bodyguards and two advisor (one is the bloodied one).

Jieung
As the goblins pass him and are distracted, the little bird takes short flaps along the ground to quickly get back to the planning table. Jieung assumes his human form and draws a vial of Bloodroot Poison he prepared during the group's rest in the cave with his Poisoner's Kit. He uncorks it and pours it into Gamliz' drink, then returns to his avian form and finds a new hidden vantage point to watch the table from.

Not leaving until I watch Gramliz drink the poisoned drink.

As the assassin comes back to the planning area, there is many goblin going around. Still the assassin use the confusion to turn in human form under the table. He doesnt get noticed as he pick up Gramliz mug to add the poison, nor when he return it. He fly up again at the spot he found sooner.

It takes about 10 minutes for the leaders to come back to the table. There is still many enemies looking going around the camp, patrolling the area, but most of them returned to their buisness at this point.

The leaders resume their planning. It doenst take long for Gramliz to empty his mug and have one of his guard to refill it. At the same time, you feel some movement being you as a goblin climb onto the tant top where you are hidden.
How fast is the poison acting once injested?
What do you do?

Jieung
Even from his bird form, Jieung maintains his powers of illusion-crafting. He creates an image of a wounded goblin, an arrow in his knee and three shuriken in his back to wander into view of the commanders, and then collapse, apparently "dead". He uses the confusion to fly straight up into the night sky, into the complete darkness. He waits until another goblin actually touches his illusion before dismissing it.

The poison acts immediately. Gramliz is now Dazed until he takes an extended rest. Presumably, he just had one roughly when we did, so he will have to wait the required time before he's allowed to take another . The poison does not say anything about treatment; to get rid of the effect, he has to take an extended rest.

Do you want me to roll new bluff and stealth checks, or do I keep the ones I rolled for my last distraction?

As Gramliz hands the mug to his guard, he start to shake his head and cough a little. With the illusion, it draws about everyone attenion, but Gramliz is a bit slow to react.
As the assassin fly up, the goblin onthe tent top yell something. You assume he might have spotted you, but no projectile is shot your way as you fly away in the darkness.

Keeping your previous roll works fine. Your plan was good and you pulled it off well.
I am not a big fan of having the players roll until they fail (which is how I kinda feel as a player when a DM keep asking me to roll a new roll after each actions).

Your timing is good, I'll have you join back at the fort i my next reply in the main thread. Check for it.

Jieung fly back to the fort and within minutes he is flying over it. He spot the fort leaders walking toward the barrack and as he cirlce around, he sees 10 soldiers surrounding his tied up allies.
