Does anyone know if there is a tabletop game out there where by players can control a single large mech-style thing and play against each other?

I have the vision of converting the GW Dreadknight into various battlemech-style games and playing against other people.

Though that also winds up being a lot more squad-group based. The problem with single unit board-games is that they really get pretty dull pretty fast. You're better off with the squad+ level if you want some intricacy and depth.

For small squad games of mechas, DreamPod 9 (http://dp9.com/) has Heavy Gear Blitz. They have the core rulebook for free (http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/97110/Heavy-Gear-Blitz%21-Field-Manual---Core-Rulebook-Revised&affiliate_id=4310) this summer on DriveThroughRPG.

Another small squad games, if you like LEGOs, is MobileFrameZero (http://mobileframezero.com/mfz/), the Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/JoshuaACNewman/mobile-frame-zero-rapid-attack) has ended and the rulebook should be out soon.
