Quick question:

Can you combine sorcerer and cleric levels to meet the Caster level for creating magic items or do you have to pick one ?

Mystic Therge, is it viable with only pathfinder feats ( no practiced spellcaster )

You don't have to meet the caster level when crafting. The caster level is merely your DC for the crafting skill check.

As for mystic theurge, it depends entirely on your notion of viable. It's not a strong class and it gives very little in sheer combat power to make up for the lost spell levels. But you do get a lot versatility and a lot of spells. If you want combat power, look elsewhere.

There's a trait called Magical Knack which is pretty much ½ Practised Spellcaster, so that can help the theurge a bit. You can only take it once, though, and it's only a +2 bonus rather than +4.

Theurge is still not a very optimal choice - but that's really no different from 3.5 (except there's no way in PF do any early-entry shenanigans which might make it a more attractive option).

It does get a few actual class features now. The capstone ability is very cool, but it's only 1/day and thus probably insufficient to make the class worth it on its own.

This.

There is no Early Entry.

There are no other Dual-Progression PrC's, so you won't get anywhere near dual-9's.

The best opti-fu advice? Don't go Mystic Theurge. :smalltongue:

The 2nd best opti-fu advice? Use Sorcerer with the Empyreal (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/sorcerer/archetypes/paizo---sorcerer-archetypes/wildblooded/empyreal) Bloodline, paired with Cleric (Druid is fine too).
This way you are at least Single Stat WIS based.

Thanks for the heads up on the caster level now I don't need the +5 penalty I have been factoring in, and even a +2 caster level can help the therge. Thanks for the assist.
