View Full Version : What Does an Unarmored Body Warforged Look Like?

Thread title's got it all. I have two pictures to go by currently, both under the reforged class from Races of Eberron (pg 163 and 165). In the first picture, the warforged appears to be made out of solid gold. In the second picture, the warforged appears to be made out of undead flesh. Am I to assume then, that when I take the feat Unarmored Body, I can say my warforged is made out of whatever soft material I want?

I don't believe there are actually any rules for this, so I'm mostly wondering what your opinions and interpretations were. If I had to think of something close to RAW, I would say that only the wood is left when their metal shells are taken away, but the two pictures we are provided with prove that wrong.

I don't know what the WotC art has to say about it, but I suggest this:

The warforged always felt like they were made of an understructure of wood and iron as well as a gears adn pully's (all animated by magic/ willpower of course). As forr what they's looke like stripped down, this is the picture i used when a PC playing one asked me. (he wanted to know if he could off-set the penalty for a disguise check if he looked less "war-machine like".

They're preventing hotlinking. For the curious, Ernir is referring to the "skeletal" Terminator, before Arnold Schwartenegger's flesh was applied.

Anyway, yes, of course you can describe your character as being made of whatever sort of soft material seems most appropriate to you. It's your character. Your DM might veto anything not in keeping with your actual mechanics or the setting you're in, but ultimately deciding how your character looks is up to you – should any DM ever tell you otherwise, I suggest you walk away from the table, right then.

This, this is exactly what was in my head too.

I'd be inclined to say a combination of wood panelling, leather, and oiled canvas.

I'd say the same as a normal warforged, just shorter and skinnier. Maybe with wood replacing some of the metal.

According to this (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebds/20050627a) an unarmored body still has plating, it's just really thin and not useful as armor. So I guess technically you wouldn't look any different. Other than that, you could look like that mummy-looking dude burning a guy to death in the reforged entry. I think the gold guy might not have taken all 3 levels yet, that looks like composite plating.

No!! Rules!! Blargh!! I don't know who drew those reforged pictures but I like his ideas better than Keith Baker's, heh. I'm thinking right now of making a warforged made out of bone, similar-looking to the Terminator. I'm just gonna forget I clicked on that link. Or homebrew some feats I suppose.

I had pictured it looking like C3PO, like a slender humanoid robot. 3PO's plating isn't much proof against attacks, and if his interior workings had been of better quality, like a Warforged's, then he would have been far more mobile and agile.

Huh. Worked fine when I initially posted it. Must have had it cached.

Oh, well. Fixed now.

One Dragon article had a 'forged with a cube-shaped head and no eyes. :smalltongue:

I would imagine something very lightweight and soft, akin to foil, and appearing not very protective. Something like the Etched Oracle from MTG:
