View Full Version : The level one billion Factotum (a thought experiment)

Assuming he started with 18 intelligence, and increased it by 1 every 4 levels, and that no homebrew is allowed (but all WotC material for 3.0 AND 3.5 is, including the magazines), how would a level one billion factotum spend his skill points?

He would have every skill trick, speak all languages, and have 1,000,000,003 points in every skill ever printed... but what about the skill points left over?

Dump them into his item familiar to get huge skill bonuses on every skill.

If still left overs... make up weird performs, professions, and crafts to learn.

Example:
This week I put everything aside and really focused on my passion, dirtstacking. (perform (dirtstacking) + 1billion and 3 ranks. Profession(Dirtstacker) +1billion and 3 ranks)

A very powerful option is probably Knowledge Local [Another area]. Being intimately familiar with the multiverse is pretty great.

3.5 does not have separate Knowledge (Local) skills.

Anyway, the first thing that came to my mind was Craft (Sandwiches). When you're going to live forever (I assume a billionth-level character has handled death-by-old-age a long time ago) and you have no reason not to invest in a totally mundane thing... well, there's precedent for that.

No, underwater basket weaving, otherwise you're just wasting time.

I'm really sad someone beat me to the sandwich thing, since you can make knowledge of whatever you want you could try Knowledge (Future), where higher ranks make you predict the future better, that could be fun.

Craft (Macaroni and Cheese).

...

No?

Depends. If you're in the northern part of the campaign setting, that changes to craft: dinner.

Good point, and I'm sorry for my regionalism. Which brings up BNL and their song which mentions the same.

What is WBL for level one billion? I bet I could buy you (and everyone else) a house.

Craft (Game Mechanics), Craft (Roleplaying System), Profession (Mathematician) (you have to keep track of that many points somehow).
Perform (Planetary Bodies), Perform (Starcharts), Perform (Cats)
Knowledge (Even Numbers), Knowledge (One-dimensional thinking), Knowledge (Water), Knowledge (Food), Knowledge (Left Arm), Knowledge (Right Arm)

Also Craft: child. everyone in the multiverse will be your kin. Actually scrap that due to incest:smallyuk:

Craft: Crafting Materials (use 1 GP of materials to make 3 GP of materials to make 9 GP of materials to make 27 GP of materials to... Use epic craft rules to set the DC to 1 billion, allowing you to instantly make materials for anything)

Craft: Religion

Craft: Worshiper

Knowledge: Physics (or break it into Quantum Mechanics, Material Physics, Circuitry, Electricity and Magnetism, Relalitivity, Unified Theory, etc.)

Knowledge: Chemistry

Craft: Computers

First you should take Craft (specialized skills)

Wouldn't that be WBL for level one Million?

I'm bored so... why not.

A factotum of level 109 would gain different amounts of skill points as time went on. Assuming human, she would gain 52 skill points at 1st level, 13 at levels 2-7, 14 at levels 8-15, and so on. At level 1 billion, she would have 18 + 250,000,000 Int and would therefore have an Int bonus of 125,000,004 and would gain 125,000,013 skill points that level.

Performing some trivial math behind the scenes gets me a total of 26 + 8 * [(13 + 125,000,013) * 62,500,000] + 62,500,013 = 62,500,013,062,500,039 = 6.25 * 1016 or 62.5 quadrillion skill points.

Given that the max amount ranks in any skill at level 1 billion is 1,000,000,003, that allows the Factotum to have 62,500,012 skills maxed out (with about 880 million skill points left over for skill tricks and languages). Not counting Craft, Knowledge, Perform, and Profession, there are 35 skills that I could find. That leaves the factotum with 62,499,977 other skills to max from the 4 I mentioned above.

So in other words the correct answer to the thread would be anything and everything?

I suggest also taking the Open Minded feat 333 333 333 times, for another 1,66666668 × 10^9 skill points.

As long as we're discussing a level 1,000,000,000 Factotum... what about Font of Inspiration (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/frcc/20070606)?
Keep in mind "The maximum number of times you can take this feat is equal to your Intelligence modifier."

Every 4 levels we can get a +1 Int bonus, so that's a +1 Mod every 8 levels.
Tomes/Wish can get us some more points bonus.
Are there any other ways of continuously increasing Int? Otherwise, we'll only be able to take the feat once every 8 levels after some point.

Starting as a Human (Skill Points AND Bonus Feat!)
1st level Font of Inspiration x2 (18 Int)
3rd FoI x3 (18 Int)
6th FoI x4 (19 Int)
9th FoI x5 (20 Int)
12th & 15th [null] (21 Int)
18th FoI x6 (22 Int)
Around this point the Tomes/Wishes kick in.

"If I had a Million levels, I'd buy you a house..."

"But not a real house, that's cruel."

EDIT: yeah, that's not it, but whatever. If you had a million levels, you can do whatever you want.

If we are going with buying people houses:

Craft (city)

You build a portion of the city worth 1 billion gp per day. Shouldn't take that long to build houses for everyone who wants one.
