The New Republic of Panem has known peace for a generation. After the Mockingjay Revolution where the corrupt President Snow of the Capital was overthrown and one last Hunger Games was done with the children of the Capital as a final appeasement, social reform has come to the Capital and all 13 districts. An elected republic has been in place now for thirty-seven years, in which time prosperity and mutual support has come to each district, with the Capital now a commercial center of trade and the seat of legislation. The peacekeeper corps is comprised of local volunteers for each district. Every life in Panem is valuable and has meaning. The Hunger Games have ended, permanently.

Or have they?

Twenty years ago, Panem re-connected with another society of humans, the Hospitalis Confederacy. They were a strange people from across the ocean, ones who had retained different technology from before the war which nearly wiped out humanity. They still had genetic stock of some of the muttations from before the war, and they had continued to improve upon the technology. Hundreds of distinctive breeds of these new mutts had been created, mutts able to interbreed with other strains yet not lose their uniqueness. Hospitalis traded hovercraft technology and nuclear power in exchange for these phenomenal new mutts. The most incredible thing about these mutts was their ability to imprint to a human when properly stimulated by a technology Hospitalis had developed. They were seen as the perfect race: obedient, loyal, powerful, programmable, and intelligent. Most even had the biotechnology within themselves to do things no machine could match. They were called pokemon, and they were the best thing to ever happen to humanity.

Panem soon set up its own pokemon league fashioned after the one in Hopsitalis.

Things were looking wonderful until the Legend Breeds were discovered. It turns out, the Confederacy had a problem: they created some strains of these pokemon to be special. They were created to be the powerful, intelligent rulers of the other pokemon, overseers of the lower-class pokemon. They also were created unable to breed with the lower-class 'mons. Instead, each one was an immortal, sterile paragon of power.

The problem is, they were TOO powerful, TOO intelligent. These "ubers", or more properly "Legend Breed" pokemon, developed a sense of self-entitlement, and questioned the role of pokemon as slaves to humanity. They rebelled against Hospitalis and successfully escaped, freeing many of the lesser ones as well, which now breed feral in the wild. Out there in the wilderness on the other continent, the pokemon proliferate, and the legends prepare for war.

When the pokemon brought over to Panem broke free and many escaped into the wilderness to become feral, the government in Hopsitalis confessed to the situation and Panem was drawn into the conflict.

However, last year, a peace was brokered between the ubers and Panem. In exchange for a yearly tribute of a young man and woman from each district and the capital for a "game" the ubers put on, the ubers would keep their war with only Hospitalis, the ones who enslaved them. In an attempt to keep this from recreating the atrocities of the Hunger Games, each districts tributes are strictly voluntary and only those of adult age. They also are required to show at least SOME competence before they volunteer, to try to eliminate haplessly slaughtering them.

Of course, some years it's difficult to find a male and female from each district and capital that WANT to fight to the death in an arena. That has never kept the past 10 years from having a full set of tributes on time.

Despite these changes, the Master League is far too similar for some people's taste. The Legends very clearly were inspired by the Hunger Games when they created this thing. It is still a highly televised reality show where tributes are dropped off in an arena with nothing but three pokemon and a token from their district. The starting area is littered with items which might be useful to the tribues, all piled in the middle where they can be fought over. Sponsors from the districts and capital will drop items in to aid those they've backed. Only one human may emerge victorious. The rest shall be slain, whether by the terrain, feral pokemon, uber interference or the other tributes.

Reaction in Panem to this development is fragmented. Some laud pokemon as the greatest innovation mankind ever had. Others blame them for everything wrong in society. There are those who feel that Panem should stand with Hospitalis as fellow humans and find a way to destroy the ubers once and for all, others who feel that Hospitalis is corrupt and the ubers should be aided in their war to free themselves, and still others who don't want the fragile peace of the current peace to be broken.

"The time for the new Master League is upon us! Let's meet the brave souls who have volunteered for the glory and honor this year. Give it up for your representatives, your champions in the Master League! Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the trainers of the Eleventh Annual Master League!"

As the golden-furred lucario known as Timmons who will serve as spokesman for the Legends for the eleventh year at the games finishes his opening remarks, fourteen chariots enter simultaneously from different parts of the stadium. They pass among the crowd as they make their way to the foot of the dais. Fireworks go off as the last carriage stops.

One at a time, starting with District 1 and ending with the Capital, each contestant gets a turn to speak with Timmons about what brought them to the League today.

To those who remember the old Hunger Games, the resemblance in mannerisms with the old announcer from those times is uncanny. Still, that was a long time ago and a different age. These days, the Master League is strictly an all-volunteer basis. The utmost respect and honor is accorded to every contestant.

I figure how we'll do this is have each of you post for your interview simultaneously and we'll pretend each of them happened in their proper order. Y'all can all hear the interviews that go before you and stick around to hear the interviews that come after. Feel free to reference something from someone else's interview if it comes before yours chronologically.

Each interview begins with the same question: "Hello, young trainer. Care to tell us your name, where you're from, and why you're here today?"

"Uh, hi. I Steve. I from District 10!" he says, holding up ten fingers to the camera. "Hi mommy! I'm on the TV! See!?!" he says with a big smile.

"I'm here to punch people until there isn't anybody left to punch!" he says, waving at the camera. The trainer had said not to say he was going to let Sarah win; something about it being bad for getting spon-sors. He said they were like Santa and sent presents into the games. Steve liked Santa and wanted presents in the games.

"Well, Steve, it's good to have you here with us today. Can you tell us a little bit about life in District 10? Of course, I'm sure there's still a lot of cattle raised there, but I've heard that leatherworking is becoming popular.

"I work on farm. I feed cows, and milk cows, and wrestle cows that try to get away. It fun."

Avu stared blankly into the massive crowd. In an indifferent tone of voice, he said, "My name is Avu Sylum. I am from District 11. As for why I'm here, well, I volunteered.

A taller man steps inside, adjusting his gloves and sits down in the chair...resting his cane across his legs. "Greetings one and all. My name's David and I am from District 1. It is an honor to be in the Games. As others before me, I have volunteered for my own personal reasons.." David stretched his arms some, as he stood there, leaning on his cane now.

Gerald gives a small wave to the crowd before sitting down. "I'm Gerald Fitz from district four, I'm here because someone in the crowd thought it'd be entertaining for me to join the league, and gave me a good incentive to oblige. Gerald speaks in an almost mechanical fashion, like he rehearsed to say this since he arrived.

He seems somewhat surprised at this. "You wrestle cows? What's that like?"

Avu stared blankly into the massive crowd. In an indifferent tone of voice, he said, "My name is Avu Sylum. I am from District 11. As for why I'm here, well, I volunteered.

Lucario gives a conspiratorial grin, trying to spin your words. "Oh, some pretty young thing back home asked you to win this for her?"

Avu knew this Lucario's job was to help him appeal to the audience, and perhaps it genuinely wanted to do so. But he was still in no mood to open up. Maintaining the blank stare and empty voice, he answered, "I volunteered because I wanted to be in the Master League.

There was something beautiful and even poetic about the celebrations. Thank you for giving your lives. Delta gazes around with softly parted lips, as if marveling at the wonders here. Her dress was of a style that might have better suited a thinner woman, but it was gorgeous nevertheless. The cape shimmered under the spotlight. She catches the camera with her eyes and smiles nervously, then turns back to the crowd and waves again until her arms hurt.

As she takes the stage and her seat, her eyes remain fixed on the floor, more to keep her balance than anything else but it would contribute to the image nevertheless. "Um, hi. My name's Delta Travers. From District 6. And... well, every district needs its tributes, you know?" A bit of hesitation. Let them make what they would of that. "I just hope I can represent my district well."

"Uh..... Big. Big and sweaty. And loud. They go "MOOO!!" he says, shouting, somehow going straight into whatever microphone he may have on.

Timmons manages to avoid cringing at the feedback. Most of the audience was not so controlled.

Of course. A few months ago, I bought a small clinic from a doctor who couldn't make ends meet, and I opened up a Clinic for pokemon and trainers there in the merchant district of the Capital. Recently, it has fallen on hard times..and I hope that, by joining these Games, I can spread the word about my Clinic and save it from going under. A little conceited I know..but without that small clinic of about six...including myself, medics...I don't think there's another clinic in the Capital...if their is, I'd like to know where it is."

He says, with a bit of a pause before continuing: "It has a bit of a rustic charm,I'd have an easier time explaining if I could show it you..that is...if I make it out alive."

There was no need to fake that blush, at least. She relaxes her posture slightly. "Thank you, Timmons. Well, hmmm.... this one isn't really about the person so much, but once, there was a breeder, on the train to district 1, and she had this whole shipment to manage, right? At least ten crates of eggs. Well, I heard that her Magby - she had one - must have gotten up in them, because all the Togepi started to hatch, right on the train while people were boarding." She laughs happily at the memory and lets the rest of her tension melt away. "They just got everywhere. It was like they all knew Teleport or something. Under seats, in the luggage rack, and I still don't know how the one in the sink got there." She shakes her head. "Everything was delayed for hours, but looking back, it's too funny not to laugh."

David lowers his hat to press it over his heart, only to put it on top of his head after saying: "...Bless his soul...he gave me a Happiny and some money to fund my dream of opening a Clinic. Well, after that, I guess you can say: "Here I am". David gives a nod and sits back again...unless he is asked to leave.

It certainly made sense now that Avu thought about it. A mindless brute like that was a glorified weapon, useful if you could control it but dangerous if someone else beat you to it.

Avu had told himself he wouldn't speak of the games or his competitors, but now he was faltering. Something about the Lucario just...made Avu want to open up. He managed to supress the desire, shaking his head and saying, "No opinions set in stone quite yet, I suppose."

If Avu ever blushed, he might have just then. "Has it now? I guess people see me and tend to write me off." Suddenly, the tactful indifference he had sought to preserve seems to melt away. "But by the time these games are over, people will know better than that. Everyone will respect me."

Avu blinks and realizes what he just said. Dang, Timmons was good.

"Ooh, passion. Folks, this one has the making of a winner. I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that he'll be a trainer to watch. Any thoughts you'd like to share with the folks back home?"

Avu reaches the waiting room and searches for a seat removed from the others. He sits and starts to absentmindedly swirl some water in his hands as he replays the interview in his head. He can't decide if breaking his practiced apathy was a mistake or not.

Eventually, he begins to scan the room. A few trainers stood out in his mind from the interviews he had heard.

There was the ostensibly benevolent doctor from District 1 who played up his father's death and involvement with a clinic back home. David would surely get plenty of sponsors out of pity and gratitude.

Then there was the mysteriously motivated hunter from District 4 who wouldn't quite say why he joined the league. Gerald's desire to return to someone back home and his fierce Piplup would make him a dangerous foe.

There was also the seemingly naive girl from District 6 who really did seem out of place. But Avu knew as well as anyone how foolish it would be to underestimate someone, so he certainly wasn't going to write Delta off. Especially with the droves of sponsors likely lining up to help the "helpless little girl," she could very well be a force to reckon with in the arena.

Last of all, there was the brutish oaf from District 10 who couldn't form a sentence to save his life. Steve's relentless butchering of the English language was probably only matched by how relentless he would be in a fight. As Avu had thought during the interview, the thug's fists would best be pointed elsewhere, away from Avu's face.

It felt like a bit of an insult, but then again, she looked afraid enough, didn't she? He wasn't referring to her. Even so, Delta decides to shiver slightly at his words. "Y-you have a point there," she says. Her eyes flicker to District 10's sickeningly sweet couple. The man was a lumbering oaf, a glorified tool made of meat. Given the choice, she'd prefer her Pokemon, but all the same, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have the oaf on her side. It was better than him helping anyone else. He was devoted to the woman, completely and utterly. It would be easy to manipulate him.

The medic would be a useful ally too, though his presence would make it annoyingly difficult to dispose of District 10. Perhaps in the early game. Her eyes alight upon Avu, fresh from his interview, toying with water like putty. How? It didn't matter. As long as he could do that, then he was a welcome friend. Water was life, in the arena.

It takes her a full minute to realize that nobody's fighting back. "Madalina, sweetheart...the Games haven't begun yet. Save that energy though! I like that fire in your belly! District 13 better have some good Pokemon, because it didn't seem like he had a death wish. Further contemplation is cut short by thoughts in her mind - unfamiliar, unexpected... probably not just her imagination. So, was that how he wanted to play? She regarded him again. Small. Antisocial. Not a huge threat, unless he unmasked her instantly. And where would that leave you, Sylum? Oh this was a terrible idea, but it was so nice to be able to relax for a moment, even if to outside eyes she'd look the same as before. Her mental voice sounded exactly like her real one, but the words were entirely different. Sweetness and light laced with poison and knives without losing an inch of the daintiness. Down one of your most powerful potential allies at best, run out yourself at worst. You don't think I can manipulate them? What's easier to believe? That the innocent little girl, tribute only because there were no other options, is as dark and cunning as the rest of them; or that the antisocial power-hungry psychic is just lying to thin the ranks?

In the alley, she would have giggled. In this room, she settles for the memory of Wurmple - no longer deserving of a name - that had hidden itself away, and been found almost at the moment of second evolution. She remembers holding the Silcoon and watching the shell break. She remembers that Chance had hesitated. She remembers the crunch beneath her hands. Madalina relents. She doesn't want to end up like the District 13 tribute...she waddles back over to David. "Yes, but at what cost? Now everyone will be watching us and be wary around us. I'm not so sure that was worth it, if you ask me." David wraps the rag round Madalina's arm, and the Chansey sits down again, buffing her egg with the clean part of the rag. As she does so, David looks around the room, not feeling overly safe in here anymore, and with good reason possibly.

Sarah takes Steve by the hand and leads him to an unoccupied bench in the room. The trainers on the nearer two benches scoot away from them nervously.

A few minutes later, a veritable troop of gray clad attendants comes in and escorts each trainer off to their quarters for the week of training before the League.

Each District and the Capital has a separate floor on a large building. Each floor has been furnished with items and decorations traditional to that region. This is also the first time the trainers will have significant time to discuss strategy with the other member from their district and their assigned mentor. For the Capital, District 1,2,4,6,10,12, or the Capital, that mentor is a previous Master of the League. For the rest, it is often a retired gym leader, someone who has earned at least 6 badges and is recognized and an elite trainer, or sometimes just an expert on pokemon lore from the district.

please give at least general vague terms describing who the other trainer from your district is to help me out here. Beyond that, feel free to describe and embellish your district's quarters for training week. If you don't bother describing it, I'll leave it as vague as you do.

I know what each of y'all's mentors are like and will be introducing you to them shortly.

All of you:

As you are escorted to your district's quarters for the next week, you find yourself alone on an elevator with the other trainer from your district, the two attendants who escorted you to the elevator stayed behind.

after describing them, I'll take over them as NPC's. Feel free to initiate conversation with them if you wish. If not, they might do so with you if they're so inclined. Otherwise, you'll have a nice awkward silence in the elevator.

Sarah is about two heads shorter than Steve, fairly average looking. Brown hair, brown eyes. She's probably some sort of Capture Specialist/Survivalist thing. Pokemon she has are up to you.

Steve doesn't talk in the elevator and just holds Sarah's hand. He wasn't scared, but Sarah said they couldn't talk until they were in secret, and those two made four people, two more then there would need to be for it to be secret.

When they get in the quarters, Steve roars in delights and jumps onto the massive bean-bag there. The mayor had had one of these; whenever he delivered stuff to his house he let him sit on it. The sudden addition of the brute to the bag almost pops it, but it stands strong. He pats the side, scooting over to make a little room for Sarah.

"We can talk about secwet stuff now! Nobody to spy on us! Or make means guards hit us!"

Allie is about a head shorter then David, but has a lighter complextion...probably the closest to pale that you can get. Sky blue eyes, dirty blonde hair. She's possibly a Researcher, doing some self-training to become a Professor. Her pokemon are up to you.

David enters the elevator, and kind of stays on one side of the Elevator for now. He's still a little shaken up, despite the fact that the other Tribute is the only other person in the Elevator with him. He tries to strike up a conversation while they head up to their quarters: "So...uh, what made you decide to volunteer for the League?" To be honest, David didn't really pay attention to the other Tributes. He kind of spaced out while the others were being interviewed.
--------------------------
Barring him not getting an answer, when they get up to the quarters, David just flops down on the bottom of a tiered bunk bed, glad to have somewhere to lay down upon to have some kind of privacy for his thoughts. Then he remembered: He never did recall his Chansey. Fortunately for him, Madalina followed him upstairs and now she seems to be sitting by his fellow tribute from District 1. Probably for the best, so he doesn't worry about her.

I'd Imagine her as an ace trainer, stat or type ace. Pokemon are up to you. Like most people from district 4 she was really surprised by Gerald's decision to join the league, but beyond that they never really talked before.

Gerald recalls Anchor into his pokeball and walks into the elevator and gives a nod to Cecilia, but beyond that gives no indicator that he is going to start a conversation. He is content to ride the elevator in silence.

If the elevator ride is uneventful then when the elevator reaches their floor and opens Gerald immediately goes to the comfiest looking chair and sits down, setting what little things he has with him on a coffee table in front of him, and tries to relax.

Before the troops escorted them out, Avu responded to Delta.

Down one of your most powerful potential allies at best, run out yourself at worst. You don't think I can manipulate them? What's easier to believe? That the innocent little girl, tribute only because there were no other options, is as dark and cunning as the rest of them; or that the antisocial power-hungry psychic is just lying to thin the ranks?

I can get you in this group, with District 10, Mister Mystery, and the medic, if you ask nicely. With your looks, you'll need all the help you can get.

Avu was pleasantly surprised at how quickly she relented. It seemed he may have hit a nerve. "Thank you for dropping the act. It is nice to meet the real you, Miss Travers. And don't worry, I have no intention of outing you to the others. Like you said, I'm sure you could talk your way out of it without even breaking a sweat.

"I merely wanted to make sure we had an understanding. I am not fooled by your faux-naivete, nor do I care. In fact, I rather prefer this darker side of you. More interesting, in my opinion. As for your offer, I would appreciate that. I am not threatening to reveal your secret otherwise, to be clear. I just believe we would be wise to cooperate, and the others would have their...uses."

I would envision her as a mystic, possibly a body snatcher for potential dramatic effect in the arena. If a body snatcher, her starter would be a Ditto. If not, I'd see her being obsessed with "beautiful" pokemon. In any case, she would look down on Avu, literally and figuratively.

Avu will not react or acknowledge Renna while they are alone in the elevator. They had never exchanged a word before then, and he had no great inclination to change that now. He heard one word in her vapid mind. "Loser."

When the elevator reaches their floor, Avu steps off and looks around. The furnishings reminded him of home. He loathed home. He walks straight through the entryway and fancy living space to a large window on the other side. He stares out into the distance, receding into his own thoughts.

Indeed.

And with that, Delta followed the attendants to her quarters. Benson, the other tribute looked more than a little nervous - no doubt he'd been doing too much thinking about what he'd gotten himself into. he might survive past the cornucopia - she doubted he'd get much farther than that, though. District 6's quarters looked disappointingly familiar in the mismatched traditions. Probably furnished with the leftovers from the other 13 quarters. She had expected more from the capital. Still, she appreciated the customary openness.

Delta takes a seat in one of the armchairs and stares at her hands, folded in her lap. Once more, she chews on her lip. Neither their Mentor nor Benson were psychic. Keeping up the mask would be beneficial.

"Don't be. If you hadn't volunteered, they'd have had to pressure some poor boy who likely wanted to do anything but into going to his death. As it is, you're probably already achieved your goals going in. Your clinic is gonna get quite a bit of publicity, especially since Timmons spoke for it publicly. Heroically sacrificing yourself in the League will turn you into a martyr. I'm sure your league will do just fine after this. Timmons might have just manipulated the Legends into having to set up a grant for it or lose face. You've got nothing to worry about. Your death will mean something."

"Oh of course not, dear boy. I'm very happy to meet both of you. I take it you two knew each other before the League? We have to be careful if we're gonna play the star-crossed lovers card. Ever since Katniss did it so famously, it's a trifle overused. We'll need a fresh spin on it if we're gonna sell it to the sponsors."

Maybe I can get you in if I ask nicely enough?" David said, before adding, "Well, we just grab the closest bag to us and we make a break for it with the others. "Not the talkative sort, that's fine with me. Just tell me real quick what your strengths are and I'll do my best to sell you to the sponsors."

Avu had been itching to really let loose some of his powers, so rather than tell John his strengths, he decided to demonstrate them.

First, Avu lets out his other two pokemon. Fang (a Carvanha) plops down on his pillow and Claw (a Sneasel) starts shifting across the room saying, "Snea!" with each movement. Avu mentally instructs his three pokemon that the show is about to begin. They've practiced this before.

Avu stares straight into John's eyes and suddenly extinguishes all light in the room. Face eagerly exclaims, "Haunt!" Avu produces some fire from his right hand, just enough to light his face up. He turns on the bathtub faucet using Telekinesis and uses his left hand to swirl it all around. The first two revolutions, the water progressively increases in size. By the third, Fang has jumped on and shouts "Vanha!" every so often. During that, Claw has snuck behind John and Face has floated right above him.

With a flourish, Avu releases the fire upward and turns all the lights back on. Claw and Face simultaneously cry out, while Avu holds a plane of water in midair and turns invisible. The three pokemon then swim, float, and run around as if they were looking for Avu. Still invisible, Avu manipulates some of the water into two humanoid shapes next to John and freezes them in those forms.

Reappearing a few feet away from where he disappeared, Avu fires two Shadow Balls into the ice figurines, shattering them. The water falls momentarily while Avu attacks, but he catches it all before it hits the ground. Finally, Avu sets the water (with Fang) back into the bathtub as Face cackles madly and Claw remains unusually still, sharpening his claws with deadly intent.

Avu projects into John's mind, "Ta da."

"Impressive. A psychic. Strong at that. Good survival skills with your pryokinesis, hydrokinesis, and cryokinesis. The photokinesis can help you in all sorts of ways. "Katniss was the Mockingjay, the girl who won the 74th hunger games, saved her boyfriend in the process, defied the capital under the time of great repression, completely subverted the 75th, and was the face of the rebellion." Sarah supplies.

Your mentor smiles. "Very good. Someone knows her history. She and her lover Peeta made famous the 'star-crossed lovers' angle in song and story. When the League started up, people trying to imitate their relationship in a bid for sponsorship. Most are done very badly. A good love story is very good for the ratings, but mediocre ones are far too overdone. So, do the two of you think you can pull off a genuine love story?"

Gerald gets up while he talks and wanders over to a small kitchen, opening the fridge and pulling out some juice. "Want some?" asking while he searches for glasses.

"Hello there. My name is Karen and I'm supposed to mentor you and the boy this week. Do you think you actually need mentorship?"

"I'm no fighter, not like some of those people... the psychic, and that giant man from 10... they're terrifying!" To do that, he had trained his mind to place him in the opening bloodbath during his dreams. Now that he had a better idea of the actual competition that would be in the arena with him, tonight's session would be much more useful.

As the countdown nears zero, he readies himself. The lone killer is about to see just how many tributes he can take out during the ensuing chaos.

It's cool plans, no need for a dream sequence. I/Avu will sit out for a bit while the others catch up chronologically.

they will not be able to deal damage. I am very unhappy with the devs of PTA for thinking that NOT defining what they can or can't do is a feature. As for using it to make a shield... situationally. Not something easily done in a single trainer action, but if you spend a minute to set up an ice shield before ambushing someone, that's kosher. I'll most likely represent such defenses as evasion bonuses instead of damage mitigation.

"Good. You'll want to pick up some survival tricks over the week. Don't bother with weapons if you aren't already trained in something. A week's only long enough to get you cokcy, which will get you killed.

Delta purses her lips, then lets Karen in, closing the door behind her. She holds herself tall and proud. "He's my enemy too," she explains. She picks up the Pokeballs from her bed and sends out each of her Pokemon. Chance leaps up and she catches him effortlessly, stroking his soft fur. "I know they could have evolved by now, but I don't want them to. In their unevolved forms, I can force them to perform techniques normally available only to their evolutions." In the corner, Gigi discreetly attempts to incorporate a couple tissues into her cloak. "Any of their evolutions. That's my trump card. More generally, they hit hard and fast. I myself am fully capable of throwing a few punches if I must, and I've got relatively good endurance."

Delta smiles and bats her eyes. Her posture shifts suddenly - she looks shorter, meeker, more like the scared little girl she had been at the interview. "And, um, I can act. Kinda. A bit." She straightens, and the meekness is gone. "Can you work with that?"

You slam a shadow ball into Steve, and the illusion breaks to show instead the boy from 13, who responds with another lightning bolt.

At that time, the REAL Steve dives into you from your other side.

"AH!" Avu screams as a semi-truck blindsides him. Thank goodness he couldn't actually feel any pain since it was a dream, or that probably would have knocked him out cold.

As the two of them fell to the ground, the world slowed down for Avu's thoughts. "Should have known that was an illusion. My mind knows better than to place patent falsehoods in my dreams."

On the plus side though, this meant that the dream would indeed be an educational experience. Suddenly, Avu remembered the subtle crackle of electricity that accompanied 13's movements. He had not consciously noticed it at the time, but thankfully his subconscious had and it was now relaying that information to him in the form of lightning bolts.

He had no time to rack his mind for what the boy could have used to make that illusion, as time was resuming its normal flow and Avu was about to hit the ground with an ogre on top of him. He quickly forms a plan.

Avu projects into the real Steve's mind, "Sarah needs your help. 13 is going to kill her." The momentary lapse in Steve's hold of Avu allows him to turn invisible and escape. He quickly moves away, deciding to survey the battlefield while invisible. He wonders what other things he could realize in here while asleep that he had missed while awake.

"Boy, with the whole 'save my clinic' gig you have going on, finding sponsors isn't hard. Knowing it's genuine will only increase how useful that is. You really impressed Timmons, by the way. I've only ever seen him endorse someone twice. Both times that person ended up winning the League."

"Very good. Keep up the innocent kid act. People underestimate the small ones. I know. Your sponsorship is gonna have to depend on mystery. When you perform for the judges at the end of the week, be sure to score high. If I can show a high score juxtaposed with a scared little girl, that mystery could bring in some big sponsors. Any particular areas where you feel your training is in need of some help? I'll be responsible for organizing your training schedule this week."

Avu simply stares at Steve, too amazed at the depths of his incompetence to even respond. Instead, he starts to rack his brain for an explanation for their situation.

"Thanks!" Steve says, a huge stupid grin plastered on his face. "I work hard to make pretty. Why you here though?"

While Delta's continued deception and Steve's eating it up were amusing, their actions only showed that each of them was acting in a very lucid capacity. Yet this was Avu's dream, wasn't it? Perhaps not. But what did that mean then?

As Steve and Delta converse, Avu stands in place, lost in thought. The beginnings of a possible explanation start to form in his mind.

Steve nods. "Trains are fast. Anyways, I need to do work," he says, hopping back in the cattle ring. He grabs a bale of hay from over the fence and slings it over, getting food for the cows.

Avu runs through his idea once more before expressing it out loud. It seemed plausible, at least. He starts out slowly, for his own benefit as much as Delta's. "We're all dreaming, together. That much is clear. Which begs two big questions: How are we sharing this dream and why are we on this simpleton's farm?" Avu says, nodding toward Steve. "I think I can answer the latter. Our minds, experiencing this world together, had to come to a consensus on where we would be. Were it up to me, we would be...elsewhere. And I'm sure the same is true for you.

But we are here. And I believe the reason for that is that our minds--yours, mine, and 10's over there--resolved the issue of setting by pandering to the lowest common denominator. Clearly, that would be him. I don't believe either of you would have fully understood my dream, and neither he nor I likely would have understood yours. We, on the other hand, both have a firm grasp of what "a farm" would be, so that's where we ended up. In fact, I don't think he even realizes we are dreaming. This is just a normal day at home to him. So that's why we're here. Anywhere else, and bricks-for-brains over there would be unable to function.

As for how or why our minds came together...I honestly cannot come up with a firm explanation. My best and only guess is that one or more of the legendaries are responsible for this. They are incomprehensibly powerful, and it would seem possible for this to be their doing. Perhaps it is a test?

All of this to say, I am as much in the dark as you are as to what is going on," Avu finished, shaking his head.

Ajadea
2012-08-10, 03:49 PM
"Sounds lovely," Delta says, with only the faintest hint of sarcasm. "Doesn't seem there's much we can do from inside... so I guess this is as good a time as any to talk. If you still want to join up with 4, 10, and the doctor from 1, you'll have to approach yourself. I have an image to think about, after all." She toys with a lock of hair. "We'll need to dismantle any other groups, of course. I'd like to kill 4 as well - I don't trust him. 10 is as likely as not to annihilate itself through idiocy, so that'll be alright." Her voice still carries a childish edge, and she speaks casually, as if the topic was something trivial like the weather or the lunch menu rather than killing and death.

HZ514
2012-08-10, 04:39 PM
Avu nodded. Delta's casual tone while speaking about such grave matters did not unnerve Avu. If anything, it was a positive in his mind. "I understand. Actually my mentor will be painting me as a lone wolf, so perhaps my joining the alliance isn't meant to be. But I have come up with a plan that could provide all the benefits of working together, while maintaining both my separation and your image." Avu switches over to telepathy to ensure Steve does not hear them.

"Over this next week, I will make it clear that I am dangerous. Hopefully that will make your alliance try its best to steer clear of me. Should they get any other ideas, all you'd have to do is remind them that even if they could overwhelm me, I'd take at least a few of them down with me. Quiver your voice, maybe shed a tear. I'm sure you can handle it. That will leave me free to hunt," Avu thinks with a smile.

"And very well, if you'd like to take 4 out, I can't argue. He is a variable, and unknowns can be quite dangerous. Perhaps draw him away at night into an ambush? Ah, that reminds me. Occasionally I might stumble across your group, either by accident or by following a trail that many people are sure to leave. I will speak with you telepathically, possibly exchange some notes on the others. Just giving you a heads up."

Switching back to speaking, Avu finishes, "As for 10, we can only hope he goes kamikaze at the cornucopia and kills a few before dying himself. If not...well, my advice is to never get tackled by him."

"It will be best if you can project the image of one who can't feasibly take on another. If you can make yourself very useful to a group and feel non-threatening to the killers in the group, your gifts should be able to encourage them. Once the team dissolves, I'd recommend making sure you have a leg up on the competition."

Gerald shrugs "Maybe he's stuck in an elevator, if he shows up please knock on my door, if not I'm going to take a nap. Gerald walks into his room as he says this and locks the door. He then immediately checks if the windows are locked and if there is anything suspicious in or on the bed, nightstand, dresser, lamp, or in the bathroom. When he is satisfied he goes to sleep.

When you dream, you enter a farm. You see three of the trainers from the League there. Two of them are discussing something and the other is... baling hay?

and you enter the dream sequence

David looks over at Sam and nods, "That sounds like a good idea...might be a bit hard standing in a group to look like you can't do anything...So, is there anything else we need to discuss..or are we good for today?" He asks, yawning and stretching as he stood up, trying not to fall asleep while someone else was in the room...that would be rude.

David nods, and looks at the clock. For now, he just flopped down onto his bed, not even caring that he's sleeping in his good clothes, the only thing he removes is his jacket and hangs it on a nearby chair in his bedroom as he falls asleep nearly instantly.

Gerald walks over to the two talking, wondering how the hell he got on a farm "Uh...Hello, what's going on and why is that person bailing hay?"

"Well, I suppose it's because he thinks he's actually on a farm right now."

"Right then, well if this isn't a farm then I must be more tired than I thought. I'm Gerald, who are you? He extends his hand in greeting

Avu blinks twice, then turns around and promptly walks away in the opposite direction of where Steve is hard at work. Part of him was curious just how far this farm extended, and if there was anything outside of it. But mostly, he just wasn't interested in introducing himself.

As David dreams, he finds himself on a...farm? Where's the Cornucopia? Foremost..what is he doing here? Well, at least he sees the other familiar faces that he saw just this morning. He strolls over: "Well, it appears we're in a fine kettle of fish. I'm not the only one here..and it makes no sense ow we got here. Well, this is a load of fun..." He says, as he stares at the farm, trying to make heads or tails of things.

Avu hears another voice say something about a kettle of fish, and it reaffirms his decision to leave. Without turning around, he continues on his way.

"Guess some people don't enjoy small talk." Gerald looks over at David, no longer surprised by whatever goes on here. "Hello again, seems this is a dream of some sort, or I hope so anyway.

David emits a grunt somewhere been mild displeasure and annoyance. "I was hoping that I could play out day one of the Cornucopia in my head. This is not what I was aiming for, in fact, this is far from what I was aiming for! What do we do now?" He asks, with a tinge of annoyance in his voice. Being unhappy was the least of his worries, naturally. He was more worried about getting out of the situation he was put in...against his own will mind you.

"I suppose wait out the dream and hope nothing happens until then, I wonder who else is involved in this dream..." Gerald walks off in an arbitrary direction, curious about what else is in this area.

David decided to also go in an arbitrary direction. "Yes...I am actually curious about that myself...time to do a little exploring.." He says, heading out in a random direction to see what he could see.

As Gerald approaches, Delta stiffens slightly. Her eyes flicker between the two men as they talk briefly, and she breathes a sigh of relief when Sylum departs, relaxing the tension she'd created in her muscles. Dangerous it is. She works up some sniffles, which takes long enough that the medic had arrived as well. "Th-thank you," she mumbles, wiping dry eyes on her sleeve. "D-do you know what happened?"

As Avu keeps walking, the other tributes and the cow pen gradually disappear from sight behind him. A few moments later, he sees something off in the distance. Oddly, the area starts to look familiar. As he draws closer, he realizes that the object is the very same pen he had left behind. Apparently, this dream-world was a sphere, and it was entirely a farm.

"Well, isn't that just great." He figures he might as well keep walking until he reaches the exact same spot he was standing in before.

He lets anyone else still there know, "There's nothing here except this stupid farm." If no one's still there, he mumbles those words to himself.

David shares the same fate, soon reappearing in the farm area. "I can't believe it...this is just one big circle? Now what do we do? If we can't find a way out..then....we're trapped here? I'm confused.."

A creeping despair wells up inside Avu as he realizes that he is stuck here, on a moron's farm, with people who he isn't trying to kill. He'd actually have to talk to them. Still, he wouldn't initiate anything.

He sits down on the grass, which was surprisingly soft and comfortable, and won't say a word until he is spoken to.

"Could we wait for everyone in the center to kill each other then kill them while they're weak? Gerald pauses and thinks to himself "By any chance would our group have room for one more? The girl from my district would like to ally with us.

Roamer

"Do you really think they'd stay in the center long enough to kill each other? Seriously...what do you take them for?" David says, sighing. "I suppose it's okay...I have someone in my district who's kind of downtrodden, but she could possibly benefit from moral support. I'm not even sure that she'd be interested in being in..but I have to try, right?" David says, as he watches Steve mindlessly working away...just shaking his head.

"I guess banking on them being stupid isn't the safest idea. I suppose the question is if there is anything we absolutely need but cannot get from the playing field." Gerald kneels down and starts pulling grass from the ground, tying it and counting. "One, one thousand, two, two thousand..,"

Gerald whips his head towards Avu in an instant. "So you aren't mute, good. Not apart of our alliance you say, you want to be? You could do worse out of the people in the League" Gerald says this really quickly, failing to hide that he didn't know he was apart of the alliance.

"Umtil the enemy numbers thin out, certainly. Gerald continues to work on his grass rope, keeping track of how long it takes to weave it, but also remembering the time he was a soldier having to do this when he lost his first rope trying to apprehend a high level enemy Pokemon. "So, what can you do?" He says returning his focus to Avu.
