Drag mags and comp are okay. Any Wotc is okay except no ToB and no Incarnum.

Assume not being a spell caster ( unless something like ranger ), what are best grafts for a melee-r or archer. Categories being mainly like x symbiont is best amongst defensives ones while y is better at offensive.

It seems like the costs for grafts are able to be determined, but how does one determine cost for symbionts like psionic sinew ( saw it and thought hello replacement for bracers of armor )

Pick up two of the undead arms from Libris Mortis. 40k for a +4 untyped strength bonus. Read this. (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=575)

There's a guide for this over on the min/max forums. I'm sure someone will provide a link shortly.

You realize that +4 isn't going to hold for very long right? Inertial armor is fine to start with, but it can't be targeted by magic vestment. That +4 is all you'll ever get, as opposed to the +9 maximum on a mithril breastblate, that's either a +5 or simply had a high CL magic vestment cast on it.

When selecting grafts, what you want is to get an ability that would otherwise be cumbersome to get as a magic item, or one that you can't afford to risk having dispelled. The feathered wings fiendish graft is a good one if you're evil.

Seriously consider taking a one level dip in binder if you want to get serious about symbionts. Naberius' fast ability healing is absolutely awesome for removing the limitation of abilities that damage your ability scores to function.

Don't know how it compares to Sinfire Titan's (first I'm seeing that list), but there's also a fairly thorough list by Veyr (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=190350) that may also be useful. It's just a list, though, no handbook attached.

At any rate, since you mentioned Ranger specifically, it's worth pointing out that the Impure Prince (Magic of Eberron) gets free (well, they cost a trivial amount of gp) bonus symbionts, and is apparently a Ranger PrC?

If you want to see how far that can go, try Googling the Nasty Gentleman TO build. It abuses the Impure Prince after finagling entry as a Wizard to have the character explode with like 15,000 natural tentacle attacks per round or something ridiculous like that by abusing the symbiont's Share Spells feature.

But barring that particular line of TO, grafts and symbionts are kind of on the low-end of the powerscale, sadly.
