Ok Playground, I would really appreciate it if you could all help me find this one monster. The problem is that I don't have a great deal of information about it. What I do know is that it is something on the order of this

For the Magic the Gathering players, yes that is Walking Archive. For the non MtG players, it's a construct creature made out of scrolls. A friend of mine said that he was pretty sure there was a creature like this in D&D, but I really haven't been able to peg this one down. So I ask you all, have you ever heard of/seen a creature like this before?

I seem to remember a creature like that amongst a golemn listing I think. I -think- it was one of the later monster manuals.

Sure as heck LOOKS like something from the later MM's anyway. o.o

It looks an awful lot like a Grisgol (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20040905a&page=4), from MM3. Basically a bunch of magic items(mostly scrolls) that have been animated by some crazy wizard. That's the closest match I can find, at least.

Well, the closest thing I can think of is this:

I present to you the Grisgol, from Monster Manual III. A lich's phylactery is taken and magically thrust into a body made of worn and used magic items. The lich's soul doesn't give the new body intelligence, but does animate it, and when the grisgol is destroyed, the phylactery can be found amongst the junk. It is not, and I repeat, is not a good idea to keep the phylactery any longer than necessary, since a very, very pissed lich will come back in 1d10 days.

Yeah there are about 30 different kinds of golem listed in the Wikipedia Article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golem_(Dungeons_%26_Dragons)) and none of them match that description.

That's the creature I was thinking of. I knew I remember something like what the op was looking for in one of the later MM's.

I guess this is it then. Man it even looks pretty damned close. Thanks all.

I would be afraid to attack it. Don't destroy the loot! :smalleek:

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it much. The vast majority of it is made out of junk, and especially avoid reading the old scrolls.

Wasn't there an origami golem in one of the source books?
