Catchy campaign title right?

So by overwhelming request I will soon be running a campaign and the premise is simple, the player characters are villains from popular animated disney movies, their stats race and class determined by the characters appearance and powers in their movies.

Any interesting ideas from this? also any ideas about the race/class combinations?

Shere khan for example would be an awakened Tiger, fighter or ranger with maximum ranks in intimidate.

Jafar would be a human or possibly dragonborn sorcerer with a lot of ranks in bluff/disguise.

While gaston would be a fighter with a dash of charisma and very low intelligence.

Any other ideas?

Honsetly? Don't make 'em play exactly the character as-is. It just cripples builds. Approximate the character using LA 0 races.

Like Shifter for Shere-Khan.

And Shifter Bard for Scar.

Facilier is clearly a Spirit Shaman.

Malificient is a Sorceress with strong draconic leanings. Dragonshape is needed, of course.

Jafar is a Sorcerer, or maybe an Ur-Priest.

Hades is a necromancy specced Cleric, maybe with a tweaked Leadership or Obtain Familiar to allow for a pair of bumbling Imps.

Hook is clearly Rogue/Swash->Dread Pirate.

Mim is a druid--> shapeshifing PrC.

A lot of people might instantly say that many main characters (including villains) have levels in Bard. Don't listen to these people. :smalltongue:

I do have a rule variant in the works for Perform that could be very fitting though.

Dr Facilier would set a great precident for D&D magic. No self buffs!

oh hey I totally forgot about how the doc cant do anything for himself , excellent.

And everyones pretty happy to be running awakened animals, this wont be a massive campaign and I'm a very flexible DM, this thread is not about optimising th builds but about deciding what kind of powers, stats, races and classes would be appropriate.

@Morph Bark: the only one we've assumed to be a bard so far is scar because he's such a downright tricksy fellow.

There is the issue with not many of the villains having low charisma but i assume some of them would have compensated for a low charisma score with feats and skill specialisations instead.

A Bard with Leadership and Preform: Demagoguery:smalltongue:
Ursula is definitely a spellcaster, likely a sorcerer in my opinion, what with her polymorphing magic.
High Charisma is a must for a lot of Disney villains. They dazzle, they entice. You hate them, but you love to hate them.
Low Charisma doesn't create . . .this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QP8QdFttugg).

But in all seriosuness, mayhap an anthropomorphic rat factotum who decided to also put points in Charisma? He's not very magical compared to other some Disney villains, but he doesn't feel like a Rogue either.

If this does not produce the most awesome campaign in the history of D&D, then mankind is well and truly doomed.

@Objection: Thank you :D

The setting is gonna be idyllic fantasy happy land, wise king, rainbows and sunshine everywhere. We're talking smiling children skipping through the streets here.

One of the nastier gods is disgusted at this and reaches across the planes snatching each of the nastiest villains he can find from the jaws of death and just plopping them in the middle of the world assuming their own nasty natures will take care of the rest.

So yea the party will be a bunch of egotistical, self centred greedy sociopaths destroying everything they touch.

When i describe it that way it sounds like a regular campaign though.

Until you said this, I was thinking the character to play is Chernobog (the demon on Bald Mountain). But not if there's sunshine everywhere.

Who's going to play the Disney Corporation lawyer with a cease-and-desist order?

Frollo would be a low-level Cleric, I think. Somehow try to make Intimidate a class skill and definitely a Lawful Evil fellow, perhaps shifting to Neutral Evil tendencies when he starts going mad with lust over Esmerelda and decides to set Paris on fire.

Actually watched Aladdin recently when I realized that my character has a distinct possibility of ending up as the trusted advisor to a naive ruler. XP So naturally I considered a Pathfinder Jafar build.

For reference: Disney's villain list. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney_Villains) (Incomplete- these are the ones they market.)

I'm over in Pathfinder, so I can't help much, but some personal favorites- Yzma (possibly in her original version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgRMXKoVp1w)), Queen of Hearts, Maleficent, Shan Yu, Doctor Facilier, Jafar, Hades, Horned King, Madame Mim, and Scar.

Oh my god what would ratigan be?
The big things he does are flip out and turn hairy (hairier?) to tear things up with his claws, set up an organized crime ring, bully smaller creatures and feed things to a [relatively] giant cat.

So I'm going to say Nezumi Paladin of Tyranny with Animal Devotion and a wildly specced-out special mount. Or possibly PrCed out into Beast Master or Beast Heart Adept. (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20070209a&page=4)

EDIT:
Oh hey, I wandered out of 3e land... maybe it still applies.

Donald I'd say is a Barbarian. "Who never shows a *bit* of temperament".:smalltongue:

Mickey I see as a Cloistered Cleric. He's just so beatific I can't help but think of him as a holy man, though in his black and white days he was quite the rascal.

I'd be inclined towards Sorcerer for Mickey. We know he was apprenticed to one. http://damngoodcup.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/sorcerers-apprentice.jpg It's not like he's actually got much personality or a consistant backstory, so it's probably that, or one of his videogame appearances.

Barbarian is awesome for Donald. XD

… why do I get the feeling that Goofy is just an epic-level Commoner?

Psyren

You could plunder Kingdom Hearts to get class ideas. For instance, Donald (http://kingdomhearts.wikia.com/wiki/Donald_Duck) is some form of spellcaster while Goofy (http://kingdomhearts.wikia.com/wiki/Goofy) would be a (bumbling) Crusader. Lots of the villains were statted up for that game too.

I <3 this thread.

Traditional Disney Villains that might work:

Mother Gothel (Rapunzel, 2010) - Human Bard
Doctor Facilier (The Princess & the Frog, 2009) - Human Spirit Shaman?
Shan Yu (Mulan, 1999) - Human Marshal
Hades (Hercules, 1997) - Fire Genasi Cleric
Claude Frollo (Hunchback of Notre Dame, 1996) - Human Expert (He's just a regular guy without any special talents at all. I'm not sure he works.)
Scar (The Lion King, 1994) - Awakened Lion
Jafar (Aladdin, 1992) - Human Sorcerer
Gaston (Beauty & the Beast, 1991) - Human Ranger
Ursula the Sea Witch (The Little Mermaid, 1989) - Merfolk Wizard
Shere Khan (The Jungle Book, 1967) - Awakened Tiger
Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty, 1959) - She's a fey creature with a black dragon alternate form. Beyond that, make her however you want.
Captain Hook (Peter Pan, 1953) - Human Swashbuckler/Fighter.
Chernabog (Fantasia, 1940) - stock Pit Fiend
Queen Grimhild (Snow White, 1937) - Human Sorcerer

Hm. This may be inspired by the German comics, but I'd call Mickey a mix of Ranger and Master Investigator (that eberron class. Forgot the exact name). Donald is more of a Rogue-y type, really.

If we bring in the various superpowered alternate identities, Goofy is a weird kind of Warlock/Shapeshifter hybrid and Donald is an Artificer/Rogue.

Edit: for Ursula, AD&D had the Zoveri, Octopus-men. Though they were probably never updated.

Where is THAT from? :smalleek:

Don't they do that in the American comics? Donald had a pretty long run, including one or two solo book series, where he had a super hero altered ego powered by stealth and pseudo-scientific techo-gadgets. He fought crime of the mundane, supernatural, magical, alien and other varieties.

I was sure that one would have come from the American market. It seemed just so American, compared to other superhero stuff.

Nope, Darkwing Duck was separate and quite different. For one, one was a comic series, the other a Cartoon :smalltongue:

I think Ursula would be better as a were-octopus. How else would a were-octopuses' Hybrid Form look?

And Mother Gothel was probably a rogue/bard (or sneak attack variant fighter/bard). She hit those two thugs with a sneak attack frying pan to the head near the end of the movie, remember?

You might as well make Preform a class skill for everyone, though.

For Ursula I think the Zoveri from pathfinder are closest

http://paizo.com/image/content/PathfinderSociety/PZOPSS0300-Cecaelia.jpg

Sorc. with eel familiars and charmed sharks

Kaa is a Huge Awakened Constrictor with levels in mindbender
The Horned King is obviously a Death Knight/ Blackguard

Gantu- Half-Aboleth Barbarian with low int

The Red Queen/ Queen of Hearts- hmmm I think Epic Aristocrat works

Gantu:
http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb57887/disney/images/f/fc/Gantu.pnghttp://www.spelljammer.org/monsters/conversions/Giff.jpgGiff rogue/fighter perhaps?

Now let's do some of the more... mundane villains.

Amos Slade (Fox and the Hound): (Middle Aged or Old) human ranger, dog animal companion, animal favored enemy?
Cid (Toy Story): Cid could be reinterpreted as much more a villain in a far more magical world as an artificer with a chimera obsession.
Hopper (Bug's Life): Thri-Kreen bard. He never actually sings but he is a villainous leader who has power but uses primarily intimidation.
Prince John (Robin Hood):
http://images.wikia.com/villainstournament/images/7/75/Prince_john_2.jpghttps://secure.paizo.com/image/content/CrimsonThrone/PZO9009-Rakshasa.jpg Rakshasa anything really.
