just a thought. would it be possible by dnd 3.5 rules to craft a box with a bunch of small compartments on it and cast fire trap in each compartment. on the door to each compartment attach a hook or barbed spike so that when the box is thrown it sticks to the target. and when the target removes the box ......... boom. the doors would have to lock in tightly and i imagine it would have to have a handle similar to an old German grenade.

could be cool, could be dumb. tell me what you think.

I have no idea where you'd find the craft DC for something like that. Other than making the box, it works- by RAW you can trap every door individually.

If you're going to do that, you might as well go for the book of explosive runes approach. Write a large number of runes in a book over the course of about a week, throw it at an enemy and dispel it. Even if you're not allowed to deliberately fail the dispel check, you'll detonate half of them for 6d6 each. Get enough runes and you can take down anything that's not immune to the runes.

The runes method has the advantage of not costing you 25gp per casting too.
