So my friend is going back to college, he has been DMing a campaign with 3 players. One of the 3 remaining people has chosen to DM a campaign for me and the other guy playing. It's going to be a campaign where we make our money by completing contracts to either kill or steal. We have also been good friends since childhood. He will also be very small and a trickster. I will be very large and an enforcer type. I will carry him around on my back for long journeys. Can anyone think of good builds? We are starting at level 10, and we'll roll for stats but we generally do some pretty high powered stuff so I'll have plenty to work with. Weird races are a plus. As powerful as possible ideally, without sacrificing flavor.

If you've got limited numbers in your party then you can't really afford to specialise. So ranger or paladin are better options than Fighter.

If it were me I'd make sure to have an Artificer. That provides you with your buffs, healing and offensive spells from wands and scrolls. Also lots of skills too. You could do worse that pair this with a druid who is also pretty versatile.

I don't really want to go with a phb class, the DM is making the campaign around our builds and direction so don't worry about us having to be all arounds. I'm just trying to fish for interesting builds with a cool race and a powerful class.

Only two players? Go Dread Necromancer. You have far fewer people to piss off by spamming minions. Plus, if you've got a couple of really good ones, it's basically a full party.

How about a thri'kreen ranger\psychic warrior\thrallherd and a kobold wizard\psion\cerebremancer.

Thri'kreen are wicked cool, but I'm looking for more of a big bad intimidating guy. Like a Goliath or Half-Giant type.

This is a tiny bit off topic, but seeing how your group is so low on players. I recommend you check out the "Gestalt" variant in Unearthed Arcana.

As for builds...hmmm...Deathstalker assassin and enchanter, you don't need a big brute guy when any troll or orge will do with a mind control spell.

See the thing is just because I don't need to be a big brute guy doesnt mean I don't want to be one. Also wheres deathstalker assassin?

Dragon 322, page 092. It's basically an uber assassin, especially if you combine it with legacy champion, it gets +2 to it's save dc each level, plus it's capstone is awesome, if you die and your corpse is intact you get auto-raised after one level.

Is that WotC? If not it's probably not gonna fly.

Tome of Battle is going to be your friend here. Humans are always good at everything, even if they're not all that huge (that doesn't mean you can't just buff him up for flavor). But for the sake of survivability, I'd go with a Crusader. They have maneuvers that can heal, and many others that attract attention to them so as to allow your other player to get his half of the job done at his leisure. If you're allowed to go gestalt, I'd take that with levels as a knight, so as to make yourself all the more durable and even better at keeping your fellow alive. Maybe a couple of levels as a fighter on either side of the equation as well if you want to have some extra feats.

As for the little guy, I suggest him being a kobold. The sheer amount of cheese available for them is staggering, depending on what you get into. I'd probably look into either something with a bard or going into an arcane trickster build, but if you're allowed to make a gestalt character, make sure to keep one side of him as a rogue for the trickiness you're aiming for. Have the other side be an artificer or sorcerer for more cheese than all of Wisconsin.

Thanks for the input! Also, I don't think we're going to use gestalt. I figured ToB was going to be my best option. I just don't want anything boring, I wan't it to be dark and scary and powerful, yet fun and intricate mechanic wise.

You could try a Centaur. They're pretty great for charger builds, (since you get to be your own mount) and it would make it easier to carry him around.

Alternatively, use the Tauric template to be the centaur version of something other than horse + human.

There's also the Dragonkin from Draconomicon. They're kind of like ogres, really, except not stupid. +8 str, +2 dex, +2 con, +4 wis, +2 Cha (better than the ogre, except 2 less strength and con). Large size, they get flight, they get 2 claws and 2 extra claws with their feat while flying (so you can use a greatsword and still claw). Oh, and +7 Natural Armour. They've got 7HD and 2 LA.

Interesting, I'll look into both of those races. Any idea on class builds?

If they gestalt you should have little trouble running a campaign that's normally for more people. You could even run a (minor) PC yourself, like a bard or life oracle.

Yeah we're going to figure something out like running extra characters or whatever.
