★ Team Fortress 2
Team Fortress 2 is a team-based first-person shooter multiplayer video game developed by Valve Corporation

Interested in trading? Provide, supply or volunteer your items in this spreadsheet (https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0As_s6rBJ9TGedGFTZlJGX3cycXNqLXlKYlY5TDd2e lE&hl=en&authkey=COrp9Rw#gid=0).

★ Minecraft

Minecraft is a game about placing blocks while running from skeletons. Or something like that. The game involves players creating and destroying various types of blocks in a three dimensional environment. The player takes an avatar that can destroy or create blocks, forming fantastic structures, creations and artwork across the various multiplayer servers in multiple game modes.

The server uses a whitelist to allow only certain individuals entry. To add yourself, or any questions, ask Saposhiente (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/member.php?u=49194).
Minecraft server thread can be found here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=242521).

★ Terraria

Terraria is a game about placing blocks while running from skeletons, but in 2D! Well, okay. There's more of a focus on exploration, finding rare weapons and materials, and battling increasingly powerful foes as you carve out a home or two on the side.

Server now only available upon demand. Contact Archonic_Energy if you want to play.

☆ Colloquial

After the loss of the Chocolate Hammer TF2 server the community split in two general directions. Mumble and IRC. Everyone is welcome on both.

There is, but recently a massive controversy (http://www.reddit.com/r/tf2trade/comments/yk9ji/psa_i_believe_the_tf2_pricing_spreadsheet_at/) has been rocking the trading world, centred around the spreadsheet and its owners.

@V: Oh. That makes more sense. I don't know of any controversy about that trading spreadsheet.

I did.

On the tf2 blog spreadsheet, I don't get the controversy at all. The admin made a profit with a few keys once and only once. The admin also gives away 3 keys a day to random people. For full disclosure I admit I have won one of the key giveaways.

The competing pricing guide is garbage. So the admin of the competing site promotes this controversy and gets more traffic to his site.

And, more importantly, both sites seem to have about the same pricing guides, and they are only guides. They are starting places for a fluctuating value. They also can prevent people (like me) from giving away an unusual hat for a $5 game.

On another topic, apparently it is common to be kicked off of the official Mann Up servers, repeatedly, with no warning, and with spurious reasoning. 30 minutes in the queue, gone.

Originally, I actually didn't have much of a problem with the whole affair. It seemed like people were overreacting. But then when the admin came in to explain things, he lied about a number of details. He claimed that his alternate accounts were friends, and then made up a story when he was called out on it. The fact that the admin is acting so evasive about it all makes me think he has something to hide.

I use the WH a lot as well. To be more accurate it replaces the middleman with a bot.

It has it's own problems, such as an inability to trade new items in, and an odd credit system resulting in too much selling and not enough buying, leading to a -50% inflation rate of the credits (if everyone cashed out all their credits, they can only buy half of the inventory's value) and a terrible overstock.

i46, the first intercontinental LAN between Europe and North America, is going on right now. You can view it here on Vanilla TV (http://www.twitch.tv/vanillatv), or here on Seanbud's (http://www.twitch.tv/seanbud) (an invite level scout) stream. Vanilla TV is having some technical difficulties, so it might be better to tune into Seanbud and Co. He managed to get some of the top shoutcasters, so that's a plus.

But anyways, you should watch because the community pooled together $20,000 to send the two top American teams to LAN. This is the first time we'll be able to see how the top North American style matches up against the top European style. The Americans have been tearing it up so far (yet to drop a round, I believe), but it's just in the early group stages so that doesn't mean much.

It's cool, but has a small community, so prices can be farther off than one would hope. It should give an idea of where the price should be at most. No more.

y: its primary advantage is that you can cut out the middle man entirely.
It's fairly overpriced, and has the problems Forbiddenwar mentioned, and the people in their IRC aren't the nicest. But they have the most cool system ever and I want their bots.
They have a program that talks to the steam servers, pretending to be steam, and functions. That is how it works. If you can tell me that is not mindblowingly cool, you are a silly.

It's fairly overpriced.

Overpriced is an odd choice of words, Since if an item is high in cost when buying it, it is also high in cost when selling it. Perhaps the prices do not seem accurate for some items in relation to others when compared to the spreadsheet or the backpack.

If you think that is cool, this will blow your mind. Bots that can craft (tf2scrap.com)
Which is very useful is you want to get rid on that spare demo weapon now and not have to wait for another spare demo weapon to drop. Also, unlike the warehouse, it's free. There is no 10% cut, only a cap of 10 weapons you can trade. Also the reverse scraping is nice and free (after the one time cost of 4 scrap), if you suddenly need 2 brass beasts for the heavies that joined in MvM without one.

Edit: Okay, I gave the Backpack explorer a second chance. It is a really nice tool. I especially like the part where is says the value of my backpack ($391) That makes me feel better about those keys I bought.

It has many security features to insure you get credit for what you trade in, including an active administration who refund credits really quickly (like within an hour) if you file a report with evidence.

Just, for the love of god, check your safety word. Since you are basically giving your items to a stranger and the safety word is the main method to determine whether or not is is one of the true bots, and not just a scammer. There are other methods as well.

Also, see above comment on overpricing. I found that the key price is very accurate, about 2.5 refined for a key. although when it comes to buying vs selling (and you have to do both in order to use the warehouse fully) that 10% cut is what hurts you.

Back when I was trading regularly, I mostly ignored the spreadsheet prices. If you regularly trade, you tend to meet some of the same people again and again. I've got a few on my friends list, so if I'm looking to pricecheck, I just ask them.

That, and a lot of the high level trading seems to be done within private circles (word of mouth between some of the wealthier traders).

Ah. Nice to hear. Still, last time I checked they demanded 50 weapons (2.77) which 2-4 scrap higher than real human outside of scammers will do.

What BMOC conspiracy? Is there no pricing guide untainted by scandal?

This (http://tf2spreadsheet.blogspot.com/2012/04/bmoc-and-ebeneezer-pricing.html). Basically, big effort of rare item holders to artificially drive the price up by fake trades. And Spreadsheet actually reported it, and fought concerted effort to bias the price - something Backpack can't handle by definition.

Pretty sure the guy who runs backpack.tf said something pretty much to the opposite.

"If I see community vote I think suspect, I ignore it" when someone asked him about situations like above. So, their 'community' vote is an illusion and/or can be driven by one guy with lost of proxies.

There's way too much items on the market now for that, and a single human is going to be much more error-prone or partial, IMHO...

That, and a lot of the high level trading seems to be done within private circles (word of mouth between some of the wealthier traders).

Unusuals, Promos, etc. There's a lot of high frequency trading going on with regular hats though. What I used to do is trade Hat A for Hat B and have them toss a scrap in for free. Then I trade Hat B for Hat A, and get another scrap thrown in. Rinse and repeat.

I wonder, can you buy any weapon there?

If they have it to sell, yes. at 2 weapons per scrap, far better than most traders.

Ah. Nice to hear. Still, last time I checked they (Warehouse) demanded 50 weapons (2.77) which 2-4 scrap higher than real human outside of scammers will do.

okay, I did the math. Key prices are set at 49.777777778. so, you're right. On the other hand Warehouse is 24/7 and you don't have to haggle. So you pay for convenience.

Nobody volunteered to post the new thread.
It was a holdover from the last thread.
It had as many votes as the other.
It's still the title of the thread (see above).

So quit your bitching, and enjoy the thread. For the love of God, it's the TITLE OF A PLACE WHERE YOU TYPE WORDS. It's not a novel. If you want to have a different title, fine, post the next thread. But this title manages to be subtle and funny, while still keeping in with what is barely a theme to begin with.

I was trying out the new race in an 8 player game (him, me, and six AI's) when all of a sudden this massive aircraft comes out of no where, and drops a single bomb that destroyed a while third of my base and took my commander down to 2% hp.

Yeah, but I tend to come to class in the morning and see three people with HP laptops (ugh) playing the game. It's nice to see that at least one of them (usually) isn't playing the Pyro.

I joined a server two nights ago. The team had a medic, two heavies, three demomen, two snipers (one was using his SMG exclusively), a spy, two soldiers, and five pyros.

One knew what he was doing (me!), airblasting enemies away from our objective, following up with the Reserve Shooter, and occasionally burning and then critting with the Axtinguisher. I've gotten so much better with the Reserve Shooter, that I don't really bother with the Axtinguisher anymore. Sometimes I'll be assisted by a good scout or sniper who tosses Jarate or Mad Milk at some enemies, and I'll hit them with a Scorch Shot for splash afterburn before closing in and using the Neon Annihilator.

The rest equipped Backburners (the ones that just got nerfed a few patches ago, while the flamethrower got buffed) and W+M1'd. :smallfurious:

Did the pyro's airblast or flamethrower range get extended? I can definitely tell the damage was buffed (their flames melt through my scout like butter), but it also seems like I'm getting hit from a little further away. That could just be my frustration though.

Also, TF2 isn't running very well for me. I'm getting a fairly stable FPS rate, between 30-80 depending on the map, but I'm also getting video stutters a lot. It's frustrating. My internet is working weirdly right now, so it could be the massively unstable ping, but even when the ping is low and stable it's been happening. And my custom HUD broke after the last update, something that hasn't happened before. I reinstalled it and everything, but the font sizes are still messed up and everything is screwy. Since all of these happened after the last update, there may (or may not) be something messed up that caused all of these problems. Advice?

Edit: One more thing. The link between these two parts is that the item server is down a lot for me, even when it isn't for other people. That means I can't use my Mad Milk and the afterburn kills me more often than I would like.

The standard flamethrower was buffed up to the Backburner's level, and the Phlogistinator up to the previous flamethrower DPS. Degreaser and Backburner were kept the same, though they had their descriptions changed to match the new base damage. The change was applied during Pyromania.

A) The game is pretty easy, even as a ghost pacifist hacker. I'm already gotten what I wanted and now I'm buying things like parachute.

B)I'm glad I did get X-ray, otherwise I would have never known the guards were in the walls, because the mini map doesn't show where they are (in the wall) but shows them next to the wall.

C)I was able to take some of them down by save spamming. There are very small areas that allow me to take down the guard by noclip through the wall and doing the take down animation. Guess when the guards turned off collision detection, they turned it off for everyone. Just in this one area though.

Really good RTS games are so few and far between that I predict that an RTS sold entirely on "Atmosphere" will in fact be awful, no matter how psyched I am for the concept.

Perhaps this will help?

Hello everyone! How many of you play Blacklight? How many of you have expressed a desire for a ChHa or GitP clan in Blacklight, but balked at the $10 price?

Well fear no more, clans are half price right now, and even better, I am willing to go to bat and make the clan happen. I'm just a little tight on cash though, so I am hoping I can get a couple people to pitch in a dollar or two to help out. If four people put in $1, (or two put in $2) via paypal, I'll be able to make this happen.

Anyone? PM me.

It's a first person shooter. Honestly, I'm not too thrilled with it, though I think that's mainly from my computer being bad enough that I can't really play: from my view I'm emptying whole clips of ammunition into people without them dying, and I'm dying to only a few bullets.

It's a free to play high lethality FPS with an aesthetic often compared to DX:HR and really nice graphics (DX11 support!). I love it.

They make money by selling cosmetic stuff and faster access to side grade weapons and equipment. It's the Tribes: Ascend F2P model with a few improvements. Clans are among those cosmetic things they charge for.

So the Dark Souls game is out? What do people think of it?
With it's no keyboard and mouse controls, locked to 30 fps and 720p, and requiring 2 different drms to be running concurrently in order to run, one of which is Game for Windows Live. And it looks better on an eight year old computer.

In short, why would anyone buy it on PC for $40? Unless you have an eight year old computer, of course.

Apparently it's not distinguishable from the Xbox version. It is as good as the Xbox game. Which means it's not the worst port, I guess.

Just plug in your controller and sit 10 feet away from your monitor. And install Steam and GFWL on your box, if you haven't already.

And pay $40 instead of $12.99 for the game. And whatever you paid for your computer compared to a $120 Xbox 360. And pay an extra $45.00 for the Xbox only PC controller.

Hmm, maybe I should just buy an Xbox or PS3. Is Dark Souls good enough to buy an Xbox or PS3 just for that one game?

Was I?
I do know that I have one game on my Steam account that only recognizes Microsoft Brand X-box 360 controllers and nothing else (besides Keyboard and Mouse). Mini Ninjas(which by the way, other than this problem, was an amazing port).

Now there is a hack that involves rewriting your OS registry codes to make it think your joystick is an official X-box brand controller, but if downloading hacks and installing them as registries make you nervous . . . then use a Keyboard and Mouse. Or, on topic, in the case of Dark Souls, Buy the brand name controller, since you can't use the keyboard and mouse.

I have seen other games that say they require a X-box brand controller but don't. But after Mini Ninjas, I'm wary on what it says on the box. If someone says, Yes I own Dark Souls and it works for this controller that you own, then great.

Dark Souls is $50 on the consoles. Not only that, but an Xbox 360 runs you $300 for a decent model with a hard drive (any cheaper, and you get 4GB of flash memory). The PC controllers can be bought for $25-30, and third party wired controllers are even cheaper than that.

It's 6 tickets, minus the projected value of what each mission will earn you (one random weapon each, a decent-ish chance at a hat, plus an additional weapon per Surplus Voucher, which in my experience averages at like .75-1.0 per game...

Amazon. I never had an interest in getting an Xbox controller, so I just went to Amazon to see what the price was.

An XBox controller is a pretty useful thing to have, I find, and not just for badly-written PC ports. Driving games are so much easier when you have analogue control of both steering, throttle and brake, for example (and no, a joystick doesn't really work well for that because it doesn't feel as natural as using one trigger for brake and one for accelerate). I actually played GTA4 entirely with an XBox controller because the driving is so much better that way--yes, the shooty sections are maybe a little harder, but you do more driving than shooting in GTA anyway (at least the way *I* play it :smallwink:).

I actually wonder where the almost-hatred you hear for console controllers from some PC gamers comes from. They seem to forget that you couldn't actually play the original Doom (or Quake, for that matter) with a mouse unless you used some strange and arcane console commands, and that a joystick was a necessary peripheral for PC gaming for ages--heck, you couldn't play TIE Fighter without one, it didn't give you the option! Shooters are considered "better" on a M&K (and ARE better when facing people with controllers). RTS's, 4X's, MMO's, and (standard, ie: on a RTS engine) MOBA's all are pretty much impossible without a mouse and keyboard.

Oh, I know all that...the point I was making is that this is a relatively recent development, and that all-keyboard control or requiring additional peripherals to play games used to be standard in the PC gaming world. Admittedly, that's probably because mice didn't really become standard fitment to PCs until the early 90s!

Well, I downloaded the game (for real), and I was pleased to find it's the same game (as in the exact same game) with better matchmaking, and the option to pay for unlocks instead of getting them when you level up.

The most obvious attempts at money are the mascots, which cost between $3-5, resemble Batman Heroes/Villains/Anti-Villains, and are noted by the game itself that they make you a more obvious target!

Oh well, it's absolutely oozing with personality, customization is very fun, and level ups are quick (I played maybe 2 hours, and was already level 20 by the end of it, having unlocked everything I needed to place in the top 3 by level 10). Now I just unlock stuff for the hell of it, and cosmetics.

Oh, and getting around is a lot of fun, too. You can equip roller-skates, which let you move around quickly (and sprint twice as fast) at the cost of sliding around instead of standing still, a glider that can lift you off by flying over air vents, spring-shoes, a grapple gun, and double-jump shoes (they have beach balls that inflate in mid-air to let you do so, for some reason).

So yeah, there really isn't a reason not to play it. Unless you don't want to.

So, now that I'm playing TF2 regularly again, I'm trying to gather up the items I'm missing. If anyone has an extra of any of these weapons, hit me up for a trade:

Pomson 6000
Eureka Effect
Third Degree
Phlogistonator
Cozy Camper
Spycicle
Holiday Punch
Beggar's Bazooka
Scorch Shot
Cleaner's Carbine
Pretty Boy's Pocket Pistol
Red-Tape Recorder
Neon Annihilator

Thanks!

I've got a Cleaner's Carbine.

So, regarding TF2, is there anything one can do with duplicate equipment? I have 3 escape plans, and at most I only need one. If there isn't anything constructive to do with them, well, does anyone want one? I'll accept pretty much anything, including nothing.

You can craft equipment into scrap metal (and then scrap into reclaimed then refine) which can be used for crafting purposes, the blue prints in crafting can show you what you can make, which is a lot.

We know about crafting, and we also recognize that it's one of the biggest wastes of items in the game. It's much cheaper to sell weapons for other people's scrap. I recommend you just dump dupes into the TF2 Warehouse if they've got open inventory.

I disagree. When it comes to weapon dupes the best use of your time is to turn it into metal. Warehouse generally is overstocked on weapons and finding people willing to trade a weapon for a scrap (twice the price) can be difficult. Unless there is another common weapon you want but don't have, in which case a 1:1 trade makes sense.
However using metal in crafting for either hats or new weapons is a terrible waste and you are better off saving the metal and trading it for things you want. (Price to craft a hat: 3 refined and it's random. Price to buy the specific hat you want in 99% of cases 1-2 refined)

If you can't turn your duplicated weapons into scrap yourself because they are for different classes, you can use tf2scrap.com to do it for you.

But that's just one little bear's opinion.

Honestly I took it as a rather basic question and I responded how I thought was appropriate based on the question asked.

Having some scrap can be useful and what better way to do it with basic weapons found? I did not mean to imply crafting hats/new stuff was a great idea.

I'm looking for a Virtual Reality Headset, a Googly Gazer, and a Pip-Boy (preferably non-Genuine as it'll be cheaper). Anyone want to help me out?

Also, I, too (http://steamcommunity.com/id/MandoKnight/inventory/), have a Crocodile Smile, as well as a Your Worst Nightmare and a Stealth Steeler. I'm looking mostly for a Pip-Boy or a Tin-1000, though other $7.49 items for the Demoman or Engineer would be appreciated... or some kind of pet.

7 series have: 4
8 series have: 3

It's hard to argue against it, but it doesn't sit right with me. 100$ _is_ a lot -and- hard to come by for some people. 1.) It's an investment... if you make even $0.50 on each game sold, you need only 200 sales to break even. After that, it's all Valve-provided profit.
2.) Loans, jobs, dividing the cost among several contributors, reducing money spent on not-really-necessities... there's lots of ways to come up with $100.
3.) If you get Greenlighted, $100 is a paltry sum given that you just got hooked up with the largest digital distribution system on PC. Just try finding a company that will give you a position in a similarly large market space for less, much less giving that fee to charity rather than their own pockets.

Greenlight:

I am fine with the $100 because I assume it goes with their purpose of the Greenlight. It isn't a way for any game to get on Steam, but rather a way to let a few games get on Steam without them doing most of the leg work.

The game makers put it on and they have to get the votes to put themselves on Steam.

I suspect they only want a few games per month, if that to get on Steam through this method. Look at the game's rating %, I have seen a few 15% but nothing really higher (granted I looked a lot yesterday, not today) but if on the first few days of this and the highest at 15%? Its a long process with a lot of people needing to push vote.

I really don't think it was designed for games that are side projects, but rather serious games that using this as their first push into a major publishing company, why the limited so much. Also the money does go to a good cause. I have only taken one Business and Law class but would that count as a charity contribution for the game company or Valve? One is getting a tax break, could be used by Valve to help their bottom line :P

I realize it's an investment. Also, I'm pretty sure all of us who regularly read the Steam thread realize it's a big deal to be "hooked up" with them. :smalltongue:

While Kickstarter is a good way to go for some easy crowd-sourcing, finding people willing to give you 100$ hasn't always been easy. I've definitely known people who would have trouble putting 100$ together. You're absolutely right that it could pay off big, but that's still a big IF. IF people see it and vote for it. IF Steam Greenlights it. IF it sells well after that. You have to take a risk somewhere to make money, but it's not insignificant or spare change.

I'm not against cutting down on the spam. They needed to handle the mess in a hurry. But why not 10$? Or 20$? Or some other method that also makes sense? I could pay it, so could many people, but it doesn't feel like a good number to me.

If you think your game isn't capable of being Greenlighted - then im not entirely sure why you would put it on Greenlight if it was less money.

It may not be insignificant or spare change, but its also less then the price of the computer you no doubt used to make your indie game on by several hundred. If you could save up for the computer i expect you'd manage the hundred dollars.

Moreover, 10$ or 20$ wouldn't be enough to deter all spam entries. Nor would it be enough to deter low level modders who try to get their mod on Greenlight.

While Kickstarter is a good way to go for some easy crowd-sourcing, finding people willing to give you 100$ hasn't always been easy.

Not sure if you seen what happens on kickstarter or know how it works. A game developer must already have a demo, videos and screenshots in order to have a chance at GreenLight. Put the same up on kickstarter with a funding level on $110. Rewards: $1 for beta access or $10 for the full game available on download and Steam (if greenlighted), or some other stuff (stickers perhaps?) Even the smallest indie group I've seen was able to raise $2,300 for their game. $100 should be small potatoes. Kickstarter gets their cut. Child's Play get their cut and you game goes up. Win, Win, Win. And if you get more than $100 it's a stronger indicator of the success you might have on greenlight. Everyone likes a bandwagon, put that in your greenlight advert.

If you can't get $100 from Kickstarter or indigogo, there's no way you will be able to get the game greenlighted on Steam with the same material (video, picks, demo)

Exactly; if you think your game is really worth it, you'll share it with everyone you know, your Twitter followers, Facebook, Tumblr, etc. When you put up the $100, it shouldn't be a problem.

On another note, living in Seattle paid off. Friend of mine hit PAX up on Sunday, and grabbed a LoL lanyard for me, along with a Halo 4 ONI patch. I also returned home last night to find I won a contest from Future US. Inside was a Capcom branded lanyard with the Super Street Fighter IV cast on the side (in MegaMan sprite style!), facing their rivals. It's really, really cool.

Get the Machina for the Sniper. You'll have to rely on a full charge, and you will need the SMG (or Cleaner's Carbine, though I believe the SMG is a better choice) for close-quarters combat. The Machina on a full charge can OHK most weaker classes with a shot to the torso. If it has <150 HP, it's done for. You'll get better, and the incentive to take down bigger targets (a fully charged headshot on a Heavy is also an OHK, as long as he isn't overhealed) will have you clicking on heads. This may also make you want to play with the Ambassador as well. It's handy if you know what to do.

Alternatively, get the Sydney Sleeper. A little over a second of charge, and you apply Jarate to the target. You might not rake in the kills, but letting your team-mates minicrit all over someone's urine-soaked face is still a major contribution.

And if you charge all the way (it charges faster than other rifles, incidentally) you still deal solid damage and can one shot wounded people and some of the more fragile classes.

To stave off the mindless anticipation of "z0mg Borderlands 2 goes live in 12 days," I checked the Steam Store frontpage.

Really? I'm out of money and the game I've been waiting for for years comes out just on the eve of my sixteenth? C'mon.

Well, I haven't Mann'd up yet, so I don't know how harder it is (but I assume it's a lot harder).

The starters packs do look nice. I think it's high time I bought something.

Borderlands 2, Trine, Crysis... damn, all that free time will be spent

Fixed that for you.

In addition, depending on ramp-up (which increases the further you are, unlike the shotgun, which is the reverse), you can deal between 148-201 damage on a full-charge bodyshot. Basically, all but the Heavy or an Eyelander-wielding Demoman will stand a full-charge bodyshot.

A headshot? Full-charge? 500+ damage, with ramp up. Add-in the penetration, and you've got a great Heavy-Pocket Medic takedown gun.

Manning Up doesn't increase the difficulty... unless you only play on the Easy missions otherwise. Boot Camp's six Advanced missions are the same as Mann Up Mode's missions, only they're free and don't get you loot at the end.

That's nt ramp-up, it's just random damage spread. Sniper Rifles have no ramp-up (Or fall-off).

Those starter packs aren't half bad, either. Two weapons and a hat.

Um... They are completely terrible, actually. Worth almost a key in $, worth maybe 1/5 of that in game items. But, if you don't care about never reselling these...

Well, Trixie, you also have to take into accout that I'm practically vanilla with all classes.

Um... I would be interested in one? :<

Seeing as how no one else wants any of it i think its safe to say you can have whichever one you want!

A small warning though that i forgot to mention about the portal 2 coupon - it expires by September 14th, so if that's going to be a problem for you i can only say I'm sorry to have gotten your hopes up. :smallfrown:

If you still want it(assuming you ever wanted it) or any of my other offered items. Feel free to add me on steam, (Unless you just wanted the steam key for ruler designer, i could tell you that via PM now if that's what you wanted.)

My steam name is Alienstickmen - if that doesn't work it may also be under alienfire1 - if that fails then I'll have to either PM you my email or add you instead.

If you like customization options and important weapons for a class, then it's good for impatient types.

Still not worth it. If there's a weapon you want, I probably have a dupe of it, or could acquire any weapon in the game for little to no effort. :smalltongue:

Honestly, vanilla is probably best to start off with. None of the weapons (except for Medic melee weapons) are straight upgrades to the stock weapons.

Eeeeeven then most of them aren't. The ubersaw is likely the only one that is, and even then the bonesaw has it's place. I still run with the needlegun rather than bluts in most cases (:

I would say the degreaser/axetinguisher combo is a straight upgrade though, purely because of sheer damage output possible with it.

the best upgrade a medic can get is a strange variety of his vanilla weapons. Though Kritz is really important in MvM.

As for degreaser/axetinguisher, I haven't done the numbers. Are you sure that a backburner from the back isn't more dps? Especially on a group of people? Pyros live much longer sneaking up behind anyway.

Neither of those are "straight upgrade." A straight upgrade has an improvement without any sort of disadvantage to offset it. The two examples I can think of (although I know there are a few more) are the Amputator and the Third Degree.
The amputator has the exact same stats as the standard bonesaw, with the addition of a taunt that can heal multiple allies at once. The Third Degree has the same stats as the Fire Axe, but damages any medic healing your target.
Interestingly enough, neither of the "straight upgrades" are frequently used. The Amputator taunt is so situational and makes you so vulnerable that there's almost never any point to using it instead of the ubersaw or the vita-saw. The only conceivable reason for using it is the healing regen you get as part of its set, not because the taunt itself is particularly useful.
With the Third Degree, you're better off with the degreaser/axetinguisher combo in nearly every case due to the vastly increased damage potential. However, neither the axetinguisher nor the degreaser can properly be called "straight upgrades" even though they're used by almost all players almost all of the time. The degreaser has a reduction in afterburn damage, and the axetinguisher deals no random crits or something trivial like that.

With very few exceptions, the vanilla weapons will provide you with the best results in the most likely situations. They also generally have higher skill ceilings, a plus if you intend to get into competitive play or even if you just want to get better.
