The idea for this system comes primarily from my own tastes; I like the tactical combat of D&D (especially 4e), but I also like how other systems (http://www.atomicsockmonkey.com/freebies/di/pdq-core.pdf) can be used equally well in almost any kind of setting. An ideal game, for me, would combine those things. I looked for a while, but couldn't really find anything like that, so I decided that it was up to me to create such a game. The result of my effort is the Adaptive Tactical System (or ATS), which totally needs a better name.

So why play the ATS?
1. It has tactical combat, which, while not to everyone's liking, is hard to find in a tabletop RPG.
2. It's flexible. You can play in every setting that I can imagine (which is a lot).
3. It's FREE! Who doesn't like free stuff?
4. It's easy to modify. The game's core systems are fairly simple, so you can easily change, remove, or add rules to suit your own tastes and needs.
5. It's open source so you can go right ahead and rip it off whenever you feel like it.

The basic mechanic involves rolling 1d12 and adding a number of d6's based on how good a character is at the given action. You can read the whole system here (http://host-a.net/u/sournote103/ATS_rev1.pdf).
This is only the first revision of the game, so it definitely needs balancing, playtesting, and spell-checking. Please tell me if you have any input on how I could improve the rules (or the name which is really quite terrible), or if you think of any variant rules I might want to include in future revisions.
