Does anyone know of a way to increase the number of spells a wizard can add to his spell book when gaining a level, using only Pathfinder & 3.0/3.5 Forgotten Realms material?

There are lots of ways.

The Changeling, Elf, and Gnome wizard racial substitution levels do this. Changeling gets 1 bonus spell like once. Elf Generalists (note: not specialized) get 3 spells per level. Gnomes get a few chosen bonus spells.

The Illusion Master acf from UA gives you 2 additional illusion spells to add to your spell list each time you level. (They also count as if they have the Spell Mastery feat too, which is pretty badass.) Unfortunately, the cost is your bonus spells from specializing, which sucks.

Sand Shaper 1 gets you a long list of spells that you can then prepare as if you had them in your spell book. The list includes several decent buffing spells and a line of summoning spells. This is a decent dip for a wizard and a freakishly awesome dip for a Sorcerer or Bard.

Also, from PF rules, the favored class bonus available only to humans (and depending on DM interpretation of rules also half-orcs, half-elves and other races that "count as human") that allows them to select one extra spell when they level up, only caveat is that it has to be at least from one level lower than the maximum level the Wizard can cast, so it'll only be useful at all starting at level 3.

Collegiate Wizard feat gives more spells at first level and double the amount at level up (or gives two extra at level up, depending upon reading)

It's from Complete Arcane, has to be taken at 1st level. Between that and Elven Generalist and something else I believe you're able to get up to 8 spells at level up relatively easily.

Edit: Oh, wait, only FR 3.X content. Hmm. Tricky.
