View Full Version : Anima Mage at level 2

So, has anyone figured out a way to get into anima mage with only one sorcerer level? I have been trying to wrap my head around this for a bit and this is the best I got.

Human Sorc1

Flaw1:Versatile Spellcaster
Flaw2: Heighten Spell
1: Bind Vestige
2:Improved Bind Vestige

So we're stopped dead at 1. I could get in at three (Max Skill ranks for the cc skills are 3, but I can take the Faerun Cosmopolitan feat for the 2 skills)

Maybe I use a Bloodline, possible custom, or go Silverbrow and pick up the Sorc Draconic Heritage ACF (They have that, right?)

With a sorcerer I'm not sure, but IIRC this is how to do it with a Wizard.

Human, 2 Flaws, Enchanter, Social Proficiency variant, Focused Specialist variant.
For the Flaws, take Bind Vestige and Improved Bind Vestige. For being Human, take Precocious Apprentice. For being 1st level, take any Metamagic feat. Since you're an Enchanter with Social Proficiency, Intimidate is a Class Skill for you - put 4 ranks in it. You now qualify for Anima Mage on your next level.

I forget the name, but there is a variant for sorcerer that allows intimidate as a class skill. Otherwise those four feats are your way in. Truthfully though its questionable by RAW to use the feats for binding, though an argument can be made.

Its probably better to just do binder 1/sorcerer 1 with Improved Binding and Precocious Apprentice so there are no RAW issues and enter at level 3. You'll only lose 1 caster level that way.

Well, that certainly looks nice, but I'd rather have the Sorc for lower levels of optimization (no one will call "WIZARDS!!!") and the Cha synergy.

I always thought Sorcerer should get Intimidate as a class skill. (Wilders got it!)

Oh well. Apprentice (Soldier) from DMG2, or Martial Study (Devoted Spirit maneuver) from ToB will nab it for you.

I forgot... can you sell your soul to the devils for any feat and at any level? Because then you can go something like this

Flaw Bloodline with 2nd level spells
Flaw: Versatile Spellcaster
Pact: Martial Study: Crusader Strike
Human: Bind Vestige
Normal: Improved Bind Vestige

Well, the Cosmopolitan feat gives you 2 skills. I am trying to figure out how to :

A) Get another feat.

B) Consolidate the Metamagic Feat, the Binding, and casting requirements.

That's why I was using Verstaile + Heighten, as Versatile Spellcaster is frakking way OP, and Heighten gives me the Metamagic and increases effective Spell Level.

Where would I find how to sell my soul? :smalltongue:

Serve an elder evil for free vile feats, chaos shuffle them after the fact and then retrain lower levels into anima mage after you qualify.

Hmm... perhaps I can make the Metamagic requirement here... let me check this out.

Battle Sorcerers (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#sorcererVariantBattleS orcerer) have intimidate as a class skill.

That's the ACF i was looking for, couldn't remember the name of it though.

Martial Study won't work because a level 1 sorcerer has an IL of 0.

Um. I delete the sorc level and take White Dragon Spawn.
Feats:Precocious Apprentice, Extend Spell, Improved Binding

Binder 1/Anima Mage 10

...is this legal? I haven't played it yet, but I think it is.

Seems technically legal, but keep in mind it has LA, so it won't be Anima Mage at ECL 2 (which I assume is what the OP wants). Why Able Learner? Binder gives you the skills you need.

Haha. You're right. Ima fix that.

@thisisacat Can you elaborate on loredrake binder?

White Dragonspawn, eh? Seems mega cheesy, but I can buy off the LA which is pretty acceptable. As for feats... Improved Binding, Heighten, and Versatile Spellcasting should suffice.

Loredrake as a template? Is that the one that give me Wizard casting or... dammit it's so hard to keep these draconic psychoses straight. It's a good thing I am not a dragon psychologist or I'd be embarrassed.

Loredrake is a sovereign archetype from Dragons of Eberron.

Sovereign Archetypes are "ACF" but for true dragons, in the particular case of Loredrake it gives +2 Sorc levels to the dragon casting in exchange of reducing their RHD by one step (to d10).

The cheesy part is that by some interpretations of the rules, Dragonwrought Kobolds count as true dragons and are thus eligible for Sovereign Archetypes, this technically allows them to cast as a sorcerer of up to 3 levels more (if using the greater rite of draconic passage from the RotD web enhancement)

The horrible part is there's no "some interpretations of the rules" involved. Rules as written, Dragonwrought Kobolds are Dragons. Period ****ing dot.

However, the results of this are so catastrophic that even TO veterans tend to cringe when they're brought up.

It might be worth mentioning Dragonwrought Kobolds aren't true dragons :P

lol... jk. Sorta

There's like three threads about all of the problems with this, so I'm just going to say it isn't as cut and dry as you are making it out to be.

There's nothing wrong with them being Dragons. Even Half-Dragons are Dragons, and they don't break anything.

It's the herculean gymnastics to try and make them TRUE dragons that causes this endless wrangling. Coupled with a massive unwillingness to slaughter TO's sacred cows.

Don't we have enough threads right now (one, at least), regarding DWK = true or false dragons? Do we need another one? On top of the thread that finally wrapped a month or so ago?

So, yeah, anima mage. Good times.
