The Mod Wonder:

This is the Crowdfunding thread for Role-Playing Games. In it, you will find discussion and promotion of crowd-funded projects related to traditional, table-top role-playing games. Projects for video, board and card games will be found in the Crowdfunding thread for Gaming (Other), while those for other projects can be found in Arts and Crafts or Media Discussions.

As a semi-permanent and structured thread, there are two rules that need to be addressed.

Rule 1. All other board rules apply. Do not flame, do not double post, do not troll. If a crowd-funding project breaks any of the board rules (e.g. explicit materials, political or religious in nature), it will be deleted, and the person posting it will receive the appropriate warning or infraction.

Rule 2.Posting crowd-funding plugs. You may post one initial link to your crowd-funding drive, explaining the project; for our purposes, you "own" any project you post the initial link to, whether you're the creator or not. When the project is at a week or less remaining, you may post another reminder of it. You may, of course, join in any discussion of it, though we encourage that to move to the crowd funding site, itself. Do not spam the thread with reminders; if people talk about it, they talk about it.

On the crowdfunding front so far I think I've only backed a few actual gaming ones. Both of these finished in the last few months.

Project Ninja Panda Taco - Jennifer Steen's indie game about mad scientists and world conquest.
Secluseum of Orphane - Vincent Baker's Lamentations of the Flame Princess adventure.
Dungeon World - The D&D inspired hack of Vincent Baker's Apocalypse World game.

I'm looking forward to seeing them blossom.

Games and supplements talked about in the thread:
Dungeon World (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sage-kobold/dungeon-world-a-game-with-modern-rules-and-old-sch-0) - Funded!

Howdy! I'm the creator of the Ultimate Psionics Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/197021008/ultimate-psionics-hardcover), which is creating the first hardcover psionic rulebook for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. This project is going to take the Psionics Unleashed and Psionics Expanded books and combine them into a single hardcover. The project is currently over $9,000 (of our initial $2,500 goal) and is already shattering our stretch goals, including a 32-page introduction to psionics adventure, psionic character sheets, new psionic races, and much more. Black and white and full-color options are available, as well as Kickstarter-exclusive content and a host of add-ins like Dreamscarred-branded dice, psionic focus tokens, full-color posters, and more!

Saw your ad on Ultimate Psionics and checked it out already...I'm a diehard 3.5 player, does this work nicely with 3.5 psionics, or is it it's own thing?

Psionics Unleashed updated the XPH to be Pathfinder-compatible. So while much of it will work in 3.5, you'd see a fair bit of overlap with what was in the XPH. The content should work in 3.5 with very minor changes, just want to point out the important stuff. :)

Hey everybody! Hi Doctor Nick!

You know what everyone likes having? Dice. And you know what makes having dice easier? Dice bags. So my fiancee and I have our own crowd-funding project, namely 1CGC Dice Bags! (http://www.indiegogo.com/1CGCDiceBags?a=700269) We're making bags in a variety of styles and sizes, and would love for this to turn into an Internet business! Also, if anyone has any suggestions for designs, pledge for your size, and make a suggestion in the comments! Let us know, and the Crafty Gamer Chick and I will be working on those bags so you all can hold:

Your dice!
Your miniatures!
Your mini tablets!
Your Microlite20 Rulebooks!
Candy to bribe the GM!
Your Magic Deck!
And other STUFF!

So go ahead and give us a look over! We still have 99 Starter packages left, which is a Mini Dice Bag and a set of polyhedrals (1d4, 4d6, 1d8, 1d10, 1d%, 1d12 and 1d20) with a few extra dice tossed in! That one I think isn't a bad deal, overall.

Also, on a side note; Once my truck gets fixed, I am so pledging to that Ultimate Psionics project. *wants*

This is something that someone else plugged in its own thread, but Fate of the Norns: 20th anniversary edition (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/avalkauskas/fate-of-the-norns-ragnarok-20th-anniversary-editio) is a pretty nifty little Kickstarter.

The game is based on Norse mythology, specifically fast-forwarding the mythos to nearly the time of Ragnarok. Now, I personally don't know enough about the game's fiction to judge its accuracy, but from what I've seen they're certainly giving lip service to the right folks in the right places.

What sets this game apart from others is the unique way that the mechanics have been infused with the fluff. The game uses not dice nor cards but the 24 runes of Elder Futhark to determine combat effects and skill checks. A character has a mere two primary stats: Essence, which affects the number of runes your character "knows," and Destiny, which affects the number of runes drawn per turn.

But the rune mechanic is much deeper than "I drew Hagl, which means I rolled a 4. With each draw, the player must choose how he or she lays out the runes, with the configuration of runes having as much effect as the actual runes drawn.

The result of this is an RPG with a satisfyingly large amount of game to it.
That, and vikings. Which is awesome.

Better review/overview than mine can be found here. (http://rpggeek.com/thread/836135/fotnr-review-after-6-years-of-playing) I'm sure there are others, but that one described things well enough to sell me on it.

Tenra Bansho Zero (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/diamondsutra/tenra-bansho-zero-an-art-and-culture-rich-rpg-from): it basically sounds like the Japanese version of Rifts, with fast-moving narrative mechanics. Oh, and it's been one guy localizing the whole thing for seven years, and Luke Crane is doing layout.

This is gonna be awesome.

Swords and Wizardry (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/froggodgames/swords-and-wizardry-the-actual-1st-edition-rolepla?ref=live) Kickstarter still going.

Horror on the orient express (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/448333182/horror-on-the-orient-express-a-chaosium-publicatio?ref=live) also still has time.

Both look awesome.

Good idea, this thread (and RE: thread title - I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE.:smallwink:)!

First of all, I would like to submit for your perusal tremulus, a Storytelling Game of Lovecraftian Horror. (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1227949612/tremulus-a-storytelling-game-of-lovecraftian-horro) This is Cthulhu mythos roleplaying as I've always wanted to see it, using one of the fastest, most intuitive rules systems out there-the Apocalypse Engine. It's a very easy-to-use, flexible, ultra-hackable system that uses only 2d6. Definitely worth a look.

Additionally, I find myself really excited for Story Realms (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/springboard/story-realms). This is where RPGs meet family board games. Want to get your kids roleplaying, but wondering what might be a good intro game? Here is the answer! (Also, I want to play, because I love fairy tale-land adventures. But maybe that's just me!)

Hello,

I'm Raymond Gaustadnes, freelance digital artist living in Norway, Europe. I've been part of many game projects over the years, recently involved with rpg projects for Iron Crown Enterprises. This lead to me creating a new set of UI graphics for the Rolemaster addon ruleset for Fantasy grounds 2. FG2 is a virtual tabletop software, allowing people to run rpg campaigns over internet.

For this purpose, I sat down planning a fantasy tiles & tokens kit, for use with FG2, or any other virtual tabletop software for that matter. Or for use with any software that handles transparent PNG files, allowing you to create fantasy campaign maps, and then print them out.

The first kit is named "Game Master's Campaign -Fantasy art kit" and was approved and posted to kickstarter.com last night, already within 24 hrs I've received approx 20% of what I've set as a minimum limit.

If you would like to see this kit, and more art kits in the future, please check out the kickstarter page and consider supporting my project:

You can also read more about the project on it's "official webpage" here:

Posting a few previews that shows the quality of the tiles and tokens here:

I noticed a smallish-scale plastic pre-painted Mini kickstarter is on the go, thought I would post it here for fellow fans of little plastic people. I haven't personally seen any of this companies figures in-hand, but the paint jobs on there existing products look pretty decent from their website, and I like their apparent strategy of breaking into the industry with "niche" sculpts. This is for a small run of ocean themed minis, would probably very good for anyone planing on running a navel themed campaign in the coming year.

Wow, I wish I had found this thread earlier. Alright, so here we go. Recently I launched my first Kickstarter for Fractured Kingdom. We are actually coming up to the tail end of the Kickstarter now but please jump over and take a look.

Fractured Kingdom Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/housedok/fractured-kingdom-a-game-of-mysticism-and-conspira)

It is a tabletop roleplaying game set in the dark future of 2202. Players take on the role of the Lucid, ordinary people touched by one of the four Outer Realms. Able to tap into the supernatural forces of these other realms they have been forever changed by their experiences.

The Kickstarter video and updates provide a lot more detail and there are over fifty articles in and around the setting on the games core website.

Enjoy.

One Shot - A Roleplaying Game of Sacrifice and Vengeance

"Kill your demons; for as they live by tooth and eye, so too, shall they die."

You have one shot. Take it.

One Shot is a tabletop roleplaying game about murder and vengeance. Two people work together to tell the story of the Shooter, a normal person wronged, and set for revenge. One player plays the Shooter, on their path to their one shot. The other plays the Forces, the world and people around and in the way of the Shooter.

Vengeance is a sharp, messy thing. One Shot doesn't shy away from that. There are no safe spaces in this game; it's two people working through what it means for one human to exact their vengeance on another. Each game session is self-contained, personal, and intimate. The Shooter strives to achieve their goal at a high personal cost. The Forces play all of those personal obstacles.

One Shot is honest, intimate, and personal.

What happens when a normal human has a chance to do something that most people only dream of? What happens when a personal vendetta consumes someone's life? What will you be willing to sacrifice in order to take your shot?

Based on the Simple Six System by Sand & Steam Productions, the mechanics get out of the way, and let the story take center stage. One Shot is designed to tell a full story in one session, including character creation.

--------------

I am only a Backer to this but i have found this to be a really interesting game so i am trying to help Promote this.

Here is the Link (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sandandsteam/one-shot-a-roleplaying-game-of-murder-and-vengeanc?ref=live). It only has 9 Days to go and as we speak it is at $1,925 out of the Goal of $3,000. Please help get this funded as every little bit helps toward getting this game actually printed instead of just in .PDF form.

Hi there! I'm using Pozible to crowdsource funds for my rpg project, a game I've worked on for some years now called The Awesome System. Pozible is a website similar to Kickstarter, to be precise, it's the Australian equivalent, since I'm not a US or UK citizen!

It's pretty much close to done and I'm generating cash so I can finish commissioning some mega-cool artwork for the book. It's a generic system, but the rules are injected with a lot of flavour and the combat system in particular is something I'm really proud of, since it mixes up the actions you're capable of using each turn in a pretty novel way. It's a lot of fun and I hope you'll take the time to check out the Pozible page and the associated website, which has some sample rules on it to read up on, too!

The Awesome System Pozible page! (http://pozible.com/theawesomesystem)

I'll be tracking this thread, so also consider this an open forum to discuss it with me personally, if anyone has any questions or concerns. Thanks a lot for reading!

There's going to be about 40-50 pieces of black and white artwork in the book at the end of the day! I wanted roughly one piece of art every 2-3 pages to illustrate the important concepts.

You can see a few more of the completed pieces at the Sharkpunch Studios website (http://sharkpunchstudios.com/).

Kickstarter here! (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/800609645/gallery-of-evil)

"Gallery of Evil is a supplement for the "Capes, Cowls and Villains Foul" RPG that presents numerous villains and more!"

I thought I'd spread the love for this Kickstarter; I'm a big fan of the CC&VF system, and this looks like a huge amount of Silver Age-styled fun.

For anyone not familiar with the system, it looks to be a good, general resource for mining ideas for superhero games (plus you can get a PDF and/or printed copy of the core book as an add-on, anyway).

Three weeks still to go and some decent stretch goals: I want my Spectrum Society of Supervillains membership card - I can't get back into my hollowed-out volcano base without it!

While it started small we've grown to almost 50 Chibi Dungeon miniatures to use with your fantasy RPGs. So wanted to share:

[KickStarter] Chibi Dungeon Adventurers w/ Cthulhu & Monsters & Ponies

Now in its final week is a KickStarter to add almost 50 Chibi dungeon adventurers and the monsters they battle to the miniature world.

The TYPE I figures will be around 30mm tall and the TYPE II will be around 60mm tall. Due to the backers, the higher reward levels just keep getting more and more free goodies in them.

Hi everyone,

We are very pleased to announce the start of our second Kickstarter campaign for Shadows of Esteren!

http://esteren.org/shadows_of_esteren/ks2/esteren_ks2_ok.jpg (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1176616619/shadows-of-esteren-a-medieval-horror-rpg-prologue)

Shadows of Esteren is a medieval role-playing game, with a horrific and gothic influence. Drawing inspiration from Celtic myths, this universe has a discreetly fantastic side hidden under a bleak, realistic surface. This world is populated with humans who have to cope with tough daily lives, and face a supernatural threat lurking in the dark. With the focus of its adventures being investigation and survival, Shadows of Esteren favor an immersive mood and interactions among the Players.

This Kickstarter was designed for people who do not know about this RPG as well as for the backers of the first Kickstarter. You will have the possibility of acquiring the last remaining items created for the first campaign (Book 1 Universe Limited Edition, artworks, leader screen), but also of participating in the funding of a hardcover Limited Edition for Book 0 Prologue.

I am running a Kickstarter campaign to turn my favorite Future Armada ship into a 24x36, double sided poster featuring miniature-scale deckplans and high poly renderings.

http://0-hr.com/Temp/Clydesdale_800.jpg (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2031135231/clydesdale-class-transport-starship-deckplans)

You can learn more (and see the breath-taking video) here: Kickstarter: Clydesdale Poster (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2031135231/clydesdale-class-transport-starship-deckplans)

The ships on the poster (gunboat on one side, civilian transport version on the other) are detailed and described in a supporting electronic document (issue #5 of Future Armada) and I have created a custom miniature of the ship (produced via 3D printing ala Shapeways). If this campaign is successful, I have many more ships just waiting to make the transition onto posters.

Here are a couple of the renders:

Hello

I don't know how many of you, if at all, are familiar with Ars Magica, a roleplaying game whose 5th edition is currently published by Atlas Games.

What is Ars Magica? Well, it is a game that takes place in the middle ages, not so much as they really were, but as people thought they were, with Faeries in the forests, Demons tempting humans, and powerful Magi living in secluded towers.
And you are one of these magi, wielding power beyond the wildest fantasies of the mightiest king.

Ars Magica features many unique features, from the ability to create spells "on the fly" (spontaneous magic) to the creation of just about any spell, potion or enchanted item you can imagine, all the while being guided by one of, if not the best and most coherent magic system ever.

And there is a Kickstarter project to bring it to the computer, whose page describe both the actual game and the project waaaaay better than I could ever do.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/blackchickenstudios/ars-magica-video-game
I urge you to at least take a look at it.

For those who don't know (and since the Giant himself used it, I think most of you may be familiar with it), Kickstarter is a crowd-funding site designed to fund projects through rewarding sponsors just like you and me - sign up to sponsor the project now and, depending on how much you pledge, you might earn your name in the credits, a copy of the books, you could even work with the developers to develop spells, devices, characters, families, or even covenants that all have a presence within the game.
Of important notice is that you only spend money if the project sees completion. If it doesn't, you spend nothing, zero, zilch.

Please do check out the Kickstarter page and take a look at the ambition. And if you'd like to support Ars Magica and/or the developers, please consider taking part.

There have been a few interviews with the developers, which are linked below.

Ars Magica features many unique features, from the ability to create spells "on the fly" (spontaneous magic) to the creation of just about any spell, potion or enchanted item you can imagine,

This would be a value of "unique" that leaves out off the top of my head:
Mage the Ascension
Spirit of the Century
(Legends of Anglerre and Dresden Files both use the SotC framework)
Marvel Heroic RPG.

So that would include the system for magic in the most popular non-D&D framework of the 90s (Storyteller), the fantasy version of the most popular non-D&D framework of the noughties (Spirit of the Century) and the magic system for the most popular tabletop RPG so far this decade (Marvel Heroic).

Some "unique".

Not to say that Ars Magica wasn't groundbreaking in 1987 or that troupe based play and powerful wizards are a bad thing. But be honest about the virtues please. And wouldn't improvised magic make porting to computer actively significantly harder?

Who wants a +1 sword when you can wield something that has meaning, weight, consequence?
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1857811795/the-reliquary

The Reliquary is 60 magic items for Savage Worlds, Pathfinder, and 13th Age, written by Ash Law and beautifully illustrated by Chris Mcfann. Each item has a story, consequences to wielding it, and questions and prompts that will help GMs to weave any item into their game-world’s history and mythology.

We are over 1000% funded, and still have 2 days to go! We've blown right past a load of stretch goals so the backer rewards are really stacking up!

Here is an example of one of the items:

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-fb30Mnh1lO0/UJ2e3a80CSI/AAAAAAAAHFQ/fu7Mt3BjI40/s533/AXE.jpg

The Axe That Hungers

This orichalcum axe is covered with stylized gaunt faces carved into the metal. When carried into battle these etchings migrate to the edge of the blade, animating the cutting edge with hundreds of overlapping biting mouths.

Blood Offering
To attune to the axe an adventurer must spill enough of his or her own blood onto it that they pass out. Thereafter the axe behaves as a normal d10 weapon (save for the animate properties of the axe). If the axe is unattuned it fumbles on a natural even roll, twisting in the hand of the unlucky wielder and doing 2d20 damage to the hand that holds it (if this damage exceeds half the maximum total hit points of the unattuned wielder roll a d6. On a 1 or 2 the hand has been severed at the wrist and eaten by the axe).
Eternal Hunger
The axe is animate, given life by the souls trapped within it. At level 1 the axe fumbles on a 1 and scores a critical hit on a 20. At level 2 this becomes a fumble on a 1 or 2 and a critical hit on a 19 or 20. At level 3 the axe fumbles on a 1, 2, or 3 and critically hits on an 18, 19, or 20. By level 10 a roll of 1 to 10 is a fumble, a roll of 11 to 20 is a critical hit. This represents the axe animating and twisting about attempting to bite whatever is close to it.
Keeper But Not Owner
The wielder of the axe must constantly wrestle with it once the axe animates. If the wielder fumbles with the axe in combat they take their level multiplied by the number that came up on the d20 in damage unless they choose to sacrifice their move action that round. If the wielder has already moved they are out of luck, and the axe twists in their grip to bite at them!
Soul Eater
If the wielder of the axe over-attunes, then the axe consumes their soul. While this doesn't kill the wielder it is up to the GM exactly how having no soul is a detriment. The GM may decide that the character's soul is now one of the faces on the axe and that they can only consume food by attacking it with the axe, or that holy magic no longer has a beneficial effect on the character, or that a quest is needed to get the soul back from the axe before a resurrection can take place.
(GMs - Who made this axe? Who was trapped within it accidentally? Is there some axe-based demi-plane where hungry ghosts wander? Who wants this axe back? Is the axe made by orcs, or dwarves, or does it have the marks of another race? Which important person is inside the axe? How can the axe be destroyed, and who wants to destroy it?)

Hello Everyone!

Here we are! We hit 50k and now Book 2 Travels is unlocked!
THNAK YOU everyone!

And here is the complete update because others things are also unlocked:

Book 2 Travels

First, this new stage gives you the possibility of getting access to the whole content of Book 2 Travels!

The PDF is automatically included without any additional fee for the following pledges: High Shadow, Farl Collector, Tuaille Collector, Gouvran Merchants, Seòl Patron, and Lord of Shadows.
For the Tri-Kazelian and Varigal pledges, you must select the “High Shadow” option ($15 and $10 respectively) to get this PDF.

You will get the PDF of Book 2 Travels as soon as it is ready, well ahead of its public release. We plan to release the book for next Gen Con, and we intend to deliver the PDF next spring. Note that these dates are purely indicative. It is not easy for us to determine when the translation of the book will be complete exactly! We will do everything we can to stick to this planning, but we wish to be honest with you and warn you of possible delays.

http://esteren.org/shadows_of_esteren/ks2/book2_pdf.jpg

The English version of Book 2 Travels will be an extended version of the French one: it will be a hardcover book, and the number of its pages will be increased from 80 to about 140. The Travels book contains Leader material: descriptions of important places of the peninsula, a series of scenarios, a gallery of non-player characters, and also a small bestiary. You can learn more about the contents of this book here.

Special poster for Tri-Kazelian and higher pledges!

But we are not done yet! We are also going to print a special poster illustrated with one of the sketches realized for the cover of the “Kickstarter Special Edition” of Book 0. Moreover, on the other face, we will print a map of Tri-Kazel (the same as the one printed for the map of the first Kickstarter). This poster will be included in the Tri-Kazelian, Varigal, Farl Collector, Tuaille Collector, Seòl Patron, and Lord of Shadows pledges. If you have chosen another pledge, or wish to get a second poster, simply add $5 to your pledge. Here it is... with a reference to the movie posters!

http://esteren.org/shadows_of_esteren/ks2/esteren_poster_560.jpg

And the other side with the map of Tri-Kazel:

http://esteren.org/shadows_of_esteren/ks2/esteren_map.jpg

New option: Engine Room

Moreover, we propose you a special and new option for Book 2 Travels:

Option 10 – Get access to the work forum "Engine Room" for the translation of Book 2 Travels and get the PDF in priority (included for Seol Patron and Lords of Shadows, $20 for others pledges).

This very special option will give you access to a private part of the forum where the game's team will show you, piece by piece, the contents completed for Book 2 Travels (whether translations, additional content, or illustrations).

http://esteren.org/shadows_of_esteren/ks2/forum_engine_room.jpg

This way, you will have a front seat to witness and support with your feedbacks the conception of this next release. These pieces of work will be made available to you as they will be completed, so that you can use them during your game sessions. It is even planned that the game's team will ask for your opinion about exclusive content that will be added in the upgraded English version of Book 2. The opening of this work forum for Book 2 is planned for January.

This option is automatically included without any additional fee for the following pledges: Seòl Patron and Lord of Shadows. The Lords of Shadows of the previous Kickstarter will automatically be given access to this private forum.

For other pledges, you can add $20 to get the advantages of this option.

Once more, THANK YOU ALL for your support,

We are glad we can make this new book available to you! Tomorrow we will update the pictures for every pledges on the front page with the new contents and options.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate!

Only 3 days to go and new stretch goals.. you can check here:

This looks very interesting. I've been looking for a cool, 'old school' turn based RPG for the pc that I can play with my friends.

When my paycheck rolls in a few days from now, expect a little funding!

Your proposal needs a lot of work. If you intend to be professional about the project, then you need to practice professionalism. The proposal is riddled with grammatical errors.

missing apostrophes ("we're" instead of "were")
unnecessary commas
misuse of tenses

Also, the usage of the first person is rather distracting. Put most of the focus on the game, not your team.

Edit: Also, capitalization. For one, Imbue Games is a proper noun.

If anyone is interested in FATE, Evil Hat Productions currently has a kickstarter that has exploded (3600%+ funded).

At the $10 level, we're currently up to 14 pdfs (Core system, Tool kits, settings).

No idea how I have neglected to tell you fine folks about Dice Rings (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/critsuccess/dice-rings?ref=activity).

These are just like those fidget rings, with a part in the middle that spins independently, only it stops itself and you can use it as a die (or dice, depending on the ring) So far, they come in the style of each die in a normal gaming set, plus a 2d6, a M:tG life-counter, Yes/No, Rock/Paper/Scissors, Playing Card draw, and more! These are nifty as heck.

Nick Logue's Razor Coast to finally get published (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/froggodgames/razor-coast) - at least, as long as the publisher can raise funds.

So, some history. Way back in '08, Nick Logue formed his own publishing company, Sinister Adventures. He had grand visions for several products; he put out teasers, what he called Indulgences, and took pre-orders. Then he found himself in over his head. He essentially vanished, leaving a bunch of folks pissed off. A friend - Lou Agresta - and I took over design and development, got it finished up, expanded it, got editing done, took care of art, and so forth. Lou busted his backside to get a bunch of things taken care of - including getting money from Nick to pay back pre-orders.

Lou's next act was to find a publisher. Frog God Games agreed to put it out. Due to some commitments made by Nick, the book is going to be full color. It's going to be hard cover. It's going to be at least 350 pages (new content keeps getting added). There's a soft cover Player's Guide available. If the project hits one of the stretch goals, a full source book for building ships and running naval battles will be added.

There's cool add-ons like actual pirate treasure, miniatures from Reaper, cloth maps of the region, character sheets, and adventure "set pieces" to serve as side quests to the main campaign.

Razor Coast proper takes your PCs from level 5 up to 12 or so. It's very much a sandbox rather than a set adventure. Throughout the book are encounters, and details of how the encounter runs depending on the way the players approach it.

I'd like to encourage everybody to check it out. I'll answer questions as best I can if anybody has 'em. If I don't know the answers, I'll find out.

Thanks for looking.

So first off, I'm pretty geeked about the FATE Core Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/evilhat/fate-core?ref=users), which is one of the best gaming deals I've ever seen. (Also, it has instant gratification in a PDF download, which is pretty sweet.)

But I keep coming back to the kickstarter page for Ehdrigohr (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/601893462/ehdrigohr-the-roleplaying-game) and finally decided to back it a few days ago. It's related to the first; it's being written in FATE and FATE Core. But if you're looking for something that promises to be a pretty radically different cultural take on fantasy (rather than just standard European fantasy with the serial numbers filed off), it looks pretty amazing. Also, the art is incredible.

I wanted to shoot this over here, too, in case you folks hadn't seen it. :)

For once, I have a small RPG money surplus... I am thinking of upping Ehdrigor from $15 to $25, and will do so if the color book is close to being unlocked. (Shame the pdf isn't included, too, at the $25 level). I think it looks incredible.

Today, I upped my FATE Core pledge from $30 to $55. Fred from Evil Hat posted a preview of the Magic system(s) from the toolkit book, and it's pretty amazing. I decided I needed the toolkit in hardcover, too, and didn't want to wait for both to be done for shipping.

Like I've said elsewhere, I think the FATE Core kickstarter is basically the Reaper Minis kickstarter for written RPG material. The amount of stuff you get even at the $10 level is just shocking. Also, since you get the (mostly laid out) PDF right away, you can check out the game itself. I like what they're doing with the system.

But! I wanted to post here about Ehdrigohr because the FATE one has gotten a lot more buzz. And I think the author of Ehdrigohr is doing some really, really interesting stuff I haven't seen (done well, at least) before.

(Edit: The Ehdrigohr author is also on board with an artist who seems atypical for RPG art, and I love that, too. The giant turtle, the scary dude on the rhino... And now all this cool stuff (http://annatodaro.com/artwork/2987014_WhatMoves.html).)

Nick Logue's Razor Coast to finally get published (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/froggodgames/razor-coast) - at least, as long as the publisher can raise funds.

Just a quick follow up...

Last night, the Razor Coast Kickstarter passed the funding threshold. This will get published, finally. For anybody who pledged, Thank you! for helping it get there.

But there's still 6 days left and we have some pretty awesome stretch goals. You can read about them in the most recent update (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/froggodgames/razor-coast/posts). And if you read back through the updates, you can find all the cool stuff that has been added. A lot of 3rd party publishers were gracious enough to give Frog God Games PDF copies of their product to throw into the Kickstarter. So you don't get just the RC material, you also get all sorts of awesome pirate and aquatic themed products from other publishers as well.

At the moment, I'm most excited about the Fire as She Bears! stretch goal. I have many sleepless nights invested in it (with a few more to come, I think).

Give it a look, and as always if there's any questions about Razor Coast I'll be happy to answer 'em. If I don't know the answer, I'll get somebody who does.

The FATE Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/evilhat/fate-core). Yeah. Crazy, right?

Do you think it'll make it to the 400k stretch goal?
What do you think it is?
What's your favorite stretch goal, anyway?

For me:

No ****ing way.
Hardcopies of the core book for everyone.
CrimeWorld. It's supposed to be written by the head writer of Leverage. How can you not love that?

The magic toolkit comes in at a close second, since I heard that the writer wanted to incorporate Faustian pacts.

Incidentally, if anyone wants to play a PbP game about pactmaking con-men later, I'm game. :smallamused:

I started at $30 and upped mine to $55 after the magic system preview came out last week. I like FATE, and I'm contractually bound to support anything with a cyborg martial-artist gorilla on the cover.

I love that we're actually getting preview PDFs of some of the promised supplements. This is awesome for two reasons. (1) INSTANT GRATIFICATION, just like with the core book available immediately upon pledging; and (2) Well... we have to face it - this is a massive kickstarter with a lot of promises. And seeing that most of the work is already done on the stretch goals is reassuring as all hell.

But yeah, I'm pumped Rogers is giving us a crime-based FATE supplement. His RPG and comic work (especially the D&D comics) is amazing enough to forgive him Catwoman and The Core.

I thought about that too, but I realized that they're contracting out a lot of the work instead of writing it themselves. Now, whether the hired authors will know the system well enough to do it well remains to be seen.

Believe it or not, there's no need to guess on this - there's previews up (which look 90% done?) for backers at $10 and up. So I'm pretty confident both on the follow-through and the mechanics.

By the way, the FATE Core kickstarter is in the home stretch now; you don't have much time left, if you're interested! Just a day or so! And they posted the De-Confusinator (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/evilhat/fate-core/posts/393255) to help folks figure out how their pledges work, how Evil Hat knows what they want, etc. It's very helpful!!

There's about a 99% chance that Dresden Accelerated is getting funded, which is kind of exciting to people like me who don't have the original DFRPG (and apparently to a lot of people who have it, too!)

Yeah, that's going to be some really, really delayed gratification, I believe. But I think everyone who's in is upping their pledges (I'm at $55 - my limit, I'm afraid) and new folks are jumping on. The $10 level is really pretty incredible.

I am most interested in the Toolkit, myself. The magic system preview was just incredible - especially the Stormcallers and the Viziers. Those just make me want to run a FATE Core game right freaking now.

I skimmed through and noticed no one posted the Cortex Plus Hacker's Guide (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1116133034/margaret-weis-productions-cortex-plus-hackers-guid). It'll be essays and guides on tweaking the system for the Smallville RPG, the Leverage RPG, and (most likely) a little bit of the new Marvel Heroic Roleplaying game. If you haven't looked into these games, they're some of the most well-designed ones on the market right now, and infinitely mine-able for good ideas. This project gives you tips, tools, and guidance on how to adjust said systems for even more genres and settings. It's already fully funded (http://www.kicktraq.com/projects/1116133034/margaret-weis-productions-cortex-plus-hackers-guid/#chart-exp-projection), we're just hoping to get into the really juicy Stretch Goals now (Fantasy Heroic Roleplaying and a full rule set for generic Cortex+ Drama)!

New project alert: Tome of Trade.

Tome of Trade will be a d20 sourcebook compatible with Dungeons and Dragons e3.5 (PF players, there shouldn't be any stumbling blocks in using it there as well). It will be available in PDF format only.

This book will contain large amounts of content made to allow playing the market. Classes, spells, items, a whole system for handling running a shop.

The project is launching today, and will run until the 23rd of March. More details can be found here (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/566714633/tome-of-trade).

So, was walking around one of the local conventions (MomoCon, for the curious), and I ran into these guys working on making a d20 OGL game.

Apparently they have a Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/517808607/legion-the-game-scifi-rpg/comments).

They sound really enthusiastic about it, and $10 gets you the PDF ($50 for hardback book). Might be worth looking into if you like Warhammer 40k-ish Scifi tabletop stuff.

9 days left as of today, and they're a bit over 1/3 of the way there.

Anyway! I'm friends with most of the development team (and contributing what I can to the development myself) so I just wanted to get the word out so we can hopefully hit our goal and make a bitching Pathfinder supplement. Please head on over to our Kickstarter page and check it out!

This short really captures what its like to play a long-term campaign and bond with your team members (as long as your group doesn't devolve into PVP )

The Freeport setting needs Kickstarter help (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1780208966/freeport-the-city-of-adventure-for-the-pathfinder) getting printed for Pathfinder. Currently sitting at over 30,000$ in funding, the project has 4 days left to reach its 50,000$ goal. Freeport is one of the classic settings of D&D since 3rd edition, and seeing a quality 512 pages hardcover being printed to transpose it within Pathfinder would be amazing. Plus, if they reach the 60,000$ stretch, they'll hire Wayne Reynolds to illustrate.

Here (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/122948-Put-More-Pirates-in-Your-Pathfinder-With-Freeport) is an Escapist article with further details.

* Finished! *

Update: All done! There's now a botanimoth ($25 painted / $20 painted), a giant tentacle ($4 unpainted / $6 painted), a mermaid ($2/$3), and a peryton ($3/$5), each with a couple different paint schemes. (Check the spoiler at the bottom for pictures.) There are also a few new pledge levels which simplify things a bit, with a set of minis for a set cost (like 'skeleton crew' at $30 for 5 prepainted skeletal firbolgs).

DC Minis is having a Kickstarter with some nice looking miniatures. And it has already been funded! Yay! So far there's a kraken and a skeletal firbolg available (prepainted or unpainted), along with some interesting flags, banners, torches, spheres, and number counters. (Check the Kickstarter page for pictures of the different possibilities.)

Here's a direct link:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dungeoncrawler/dungeon-crawler-fantasy-miniatures

DC Minis has been around for about a year and a half, and have already produced some cool figures. I own most of their earlier minis, and they've all been well sculpted and painted. So I'm definitely cheering for them to be able to make more. A peryton becomes available if they get about $1k more (as of Sunday evening), and there are a bunch of other nice looking minis lined up after that.

The centerpiece is a beautiful but expensive kraken, at $60 unpainted, or $75 painted. The firbolg skeleton is $6 unpainted, $9 painted, with a 4-for-the-price-of-3 offer if you want multiples. Shipping is free (in the US), but there is a minimum pledge level ($10) if you want to add on individual minis. Their past minis are also available, for roughly the same price they've always been.

And here are some pretty pictures of the minis:

The Kraken: ($60 / $75)

http://dungeoncrawler.com/forum/download/file.php?id=48

I've spoilered the other pictures so they don't eat up all the space on the page:

Firbolg skeleton: ($6 / $9)

Peryton: ($3 / $5)

Mermaid: ($2 / $3, and one bonus figure with any order)

Tentacle: ($4 / $6, and one free bonus for each Kraken in an order)

Little extras (torches, banners, flags, and orbs): ($5 for a set of 4)

And the next stretch goal (at $45k), which is a huge carnivorous plant called a Botanimoth

Hi there!

Long time reader of the comics, first time forum posting here.
I thought this might interest many readers here who have not yet heard. There is a kickstarter for awesome AND cheap dungeon decors at: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dwarvenforge/dwarven-forges-game-tiles-revolutionary-miniature?ref=live

Have a look! 1 week after launch, it looks as if it's going to be as successful as the Reaper Bones KS.

I am SUPER excited about the Dwarven Forge KS, I am surprised it isn't receiving more buzz on the GitP forums.

They are currently at $643,550, getting deliciously close to unlocking some free pillars (which is awesome- I was hoping there would at least be a few dungeon decor-type items in the mix) and a curved wall add-on pack.

They also posted a video showing how resilient the material is- what excites me most is how well the tiles seem to be hanging onto their paint-jobs during all this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ndlexn4DTZA&feature=youtu.be

Can't wait to see how far this KS goes, and I can't wait to see my players reaction when I ask them to place their minis on a scaled 3D dungeon. :)

I don't understand the excitement. It's all squares and straight lines - less versatile than the average set of Dungeon Tiles and doesn't look anywhere near as good as a set or two of terraclips.

Agreed. My Dm and I are in for 10 sets and I am looking forward to other potential add-ons. This thing is really cool.

Terraclips? Cool stuff but it is made from punch board and will eventually wear out. At $50 for a set I want something to last. My 1 year old daughter can beat the heck out of these Dwarven Forge tiles and they will laugh and ask for more. My grandkids will be able to play with them. Sure TerraClips has cool terrains and is a decent deal but how well does it stand up to abuse? How well does it travel? How easy is it to assemble when you do travel? It's kind of apples to oranges.

The basic dungeon from ages ago was just straight lines on grid paper, for a guy like me that has been playing that way for over 20 years these have upped the anti a bit, plus by adding stretch goals of pillars, diagonal walls, diagonal floor pieces, curved walls, curved floors, demon doors, narrow doors it really takes it up a notch. They are planning to add dungeon accessories to flesh out your terrain as well and more. It all is compatible with the older dwarven forge stuff, hirst molds, and any foam terrain you can dream up on the 25mm-28mm scale model except it is super durable and a lot cheaper than previous dwarven forge items. The huge amount of extras coming with this so far makes it a pretty awesome deal. Granted at the moment it's not Reaper Bone KS huge and with the differences in costs for shipping miniature plastic figures vs miniature dungeons it probably can't be but it is pretty fricking sweet.

If you are like me and have never done 3d tabletop miniature gaming before because you lack the time, money, talent or like in my case all 3 I personally can't see what is not to be excited about.

Hey- I know it's a late reply, but I just wanted to thank you for giving me a reason to google "terraclips"- I somehow I missed that these existed entirely. Next time I have finances, I'm going to pick up a set or two, they look like a great idea.

Along with what everyone else said, the Dwarven Forge tiles just have a solid, "3-d" look that I think will have a visual appeal and immersion factor beyond pure prettiness, though there is no denying they will have their limitations.

Just 5K short of a few free wall pieces with windows now. It may be a little silly, but I think having a couple of those will help the utility of the sets a great deal.

It's looking more and more like they are going to hit the $1,000,000 mark (at least) before the KS ends. I am stoked about the $1 mil free reward (treasure piles), but I am almost afraid that "dungeon dressing" add-on pack is going to tempt me to start forking out for add-on packs. The cost of the packs themselves are pretty reasonable, but if you are outside of the US, the additional shipping is pretty harsh.

Just a reminder, 22 hours to go in the Dwarven Forge Kickstarter. There's been a lot of stretch goals and pretty cool add-on packs, so if you're at all interested check it out. (Some people complain that the stretch goals have gotten smaller, but they're limited by the box size because they figured their initial margins based on certain shipping containers... but looking at the overall value it's a pretty sweet deal).

I'm partial to using tarot cards for this, myself, but I think a deck with more specific character traits has its uses, too. The motivation/relationships/appearance/occupation categories seem like a good arrangement to me, and the price is reasonable (about $15 for 80 cards).

That's cool and all, but I'm not sure how I feel about a publisher using Kickstarter to fund its investments. Folks here may be interested in this IndieGoGo campaign to get some game designers to GenCon (http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/get-industry-pros-to-gencon). As of right now, for a $25 donation you'll receive 57 PDFs from 25 different gaming companies. I know Christina and Owen personally, and have worked with Amanda. I can tell you that all three are good people who just need a bit of help raising the funds to get out to the summer Cons. Whether you chip in to help get them there or just to score the massive package of PDFs, either is good enough.

Note that I asked Roland about whether IndieGoGo stuff can go here as well; the bossmeister gave the big thumb's up...

Greetings!

First off, apologies if it is a faux pas here for a publisher to discuss their products. I figured people might be interested in reading about some adventures.

I'd like to take a quick moment to mention EN Publishing's latest Kickstarter project (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/enworld/zeitgeist-ap-hardcover-compilation-pathfinder-and).

Zeitgeist: The Gears of Revolution, an adventure path for Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition and for the PATHFINDER RPG, has completed the first of three acts, earning numerous rave reviews (http://zeitgeistadventurepath.com/reviews/), and climaxing with a dramatic battle to save the city of Flint. As we begin to publish the second act, we're offering the chance to get the first five adventures in a beautiful hardcover compilation!

http://zeitgeistadventurepath.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/image39.jpg

HERE'S THE KICKSTARTER PAGE! (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/enworld/zeitgeist-ap-hardcover-compilation-pathfinder-and)

Not familiar with ZEITGEIST yet? Our adventure paths always come with two free guides (one for players, one for GMs/DMs) and Island at the Axis of the World, the first adventure free! You can check them out for yourself - we're sure you'll like what you see! Don't just take our word for it - download them for free from right here! (http://zeitgeistadventurepath.com/free-intro-pack/)

This Kickstarter has plenty of awesome rewards. Not only are there beautiful, full-colour hardcover compilations, but there are poster maps, NPC cards, bonus adventures, supplements, and more. By supporting the Kickstarter you not only get a gorgeous hardcover compilation of a top-tier adventure path, but that adventure path itself becomes even better!

Thank you for your time, and if you have any questions, I'll gladly answer them here, or at the Kickstarter page.

For the record I was running Zeitgeist (my players decided to steal [Spoilers'] ship and turn pirate instead at the end of the first module). It's also arguably the best adventure path I've ever read, with only the original WFRP: The Enemy Within being in anything like the same league.

2Die10 Games is proud to announce the launch of our Kickstarter http://goo.gl/nSXJR for our new pen and paper role playing game: Excelsior! Excelsior takes place during the Industrial Revolution, where man has reached out to the further reaches of the globe to find the resources and land to support the population explosion brought on by advances in technology and medicine. A group of explorers end up in a place not on any known map, and must deal with all the internal and external dangers that go along with being there. Within the setting, we’re trying to offer something that stays a little closer to the works of literature that inspire the Steampunk movement like Jules Verne and H.G. Wells. Here are some additional details on what we’re offering:

• A proprietary percentile skill and combat system that’s easy for first time pen and paper RPG players to pick up along with some new mechanics that seasoned gamers will find interesting.
• A unique system for player constructed inventions.
• Biomechanics and other less invasive enhancements such has night vision monocles!
• Separate sections of the core book for GMs as well as a Bestiary.
• Art by renowned RPG industry artists Mark Dudley and John Zeleznik

We allow you, our supporters to get involved in the game in a variety of ways, from naming one of the narrators on the journey to Excelsior, naming prominent NPC’s there, and much more! Visit us now at our Kickstarter page http://goo.gl/nSXJR and check us out! We appreciate your support!

Our wee bairn of a company, Sasquatch Game Studio, has just launched a Kickstarter campaign for our first project: the Primeval Thule (http://kck.st/11dxIWq) campaign setting.

Thule is a savage continent inspired by the works of Robert E. Howard (Conan) and H.P. Lovecraft (Cthulhu). Barbarians! Star-demons! Things Man Was Not Meant To Know! All that good stuff!

And it's compatible with the Pathfinder RPG, 13th Age, or 4e Dungeons & Dragons.

The lead design team is Richard Baker, David Noonan, and Stephen Schubert. Todd Lockwood is painting the cover, Christopher West is doing maps, and the stretch goals include names like Ed Greenwood, Owen Stephens, and Jason Buhlman.

Here's a quick link: http://kck.st/11dxIWq

I can't see it mentioned here, which is a bit criminal, but Chuubo's Marvelous Wish-Granting Engine (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1710667762/the-chuubos-marvelous-wish-granting-engine-rpg) is up to $66k on Kickstarter now, with 3 days to go. That means you can get both the corebook and the supplement Fortitude: By The Docks Of Big Lake with any pledge over $15 (and you get access to the working drafts immediately, too). It's looking unlikely now, but if we hit $80k we'll get a campaign too!

This is the new tabletop RPG from Jenna Moran, talented creator of Nobilis. It's a diceless game with the emphasis on character and story (though I must say the cool powers are very cool too). It's designed to work for multiple distinct genres, each mapped to a particular region of Town, and each supported by modular rules (such as variety in the pace of the in-game passage of time, and the different types of action you can receive XP for).

Fortitude, for example, is inspired by the rural settings of some anime, and the Pastoral genre it supports emphasises the daily life of your characters with a gradually-unfolding story. Horizon, meanwhile, is a somewhat darker region of Town, where vampires and ghosts lurk and your character is more likely to tip over into obsession. Arcadia, the shopping district, supports a more urban fantasy or over-the-top comic feel (the latter is referred to as 'Techno'). And for epic fantasy there's always the surreal Outside, from where come the genteel but reality-eating Riders.

It's well worth a pledge!

Norm

Last minute update! (waves hi to neonchameleon, who was one of the original playtesters)

The ZEITGEIST adventure path hardcover compilation Kickstarter for Pathfinder and D&D 4th edition (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/enworld/zeitgeist-ap-hardcover-compilation-pathfinder-and) will end at 7 a.m. Eastern US Time, Sunday the 14th of July, 2013. Because of a great response by our backers we've blown through every stretch goal so far, except for the "I hope WotC's legal team let's us do this" promise to do a D&D NEXT conversion. We've now added a series of extra stretch goals that add content to the Expanded Player's Guide. If you're interested in playing ZEITGEIST, not running it, you can get the softcover expanded Player's Guide for $17. And as of this posting we have about 17 hours to reach those goals.

So, thanks to all the stretch goals we've already reached, you may be wondering what all you get for a $60 pledge.

First, you get whatever physical item you pledged for, such as the Act One color hardcover.

https://s3.amazonaws.com/ksr/assets/000/736/731/ed88432984c2fd74923d42c47c753dee_large.jpg?1373493 665

Second, you get the PDFs of the compilations of Act One (due in January 2014), Act Two (June 2014), and Act Three (December 2014), thirteen adventures in total.

These compilations will integrate the various stretch goal PDFs: the Expanded Player's Guide, the dungeon crawl Crypta Hereticarum, the game-day adventure Bonds of Forced Faith, the adventure vignettes Vagabond of the Mirror Moon, the appendix Monsters & Magic of the Revolution, and the Case Files of the RHC add-on, mini-adventures for those sessions when not all the players show up or you need a break from the main plot. We'll also probably provide all these add-ins as stand-alone PDFs (depends on how the layout works out).

Third, you get the PDFs of the NPC, Ally, and Treasure Cards from all three acts.

Fourth, you'll get access to Hero Lab files of all three Acts.

Fifth, thanks to our partnership with Darkraven Fantasy Soundscapes (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/618425218/darkraven-adventure-soundscapes?ref=zeitgeist) you'll get a free download of their Bay of Corsairs soundscapes.

That's a lot of entertainment for $60.

Hope this is the right place to post about a KS project...

So, I noticed that Stefan Pokorny from DF has backed this project http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/105982873/the-realmsound-project/ to create custom music, sound effects, and voice overs for Tabletop RPGers, and he is publicly trying to push their KS through DF and other forums, so I thought I'd share since I love this project too.

Not sure if anyone else does this, but our gaming group loves to use ambient audio while we play to set the mood. But, what has me kicked are the potential Monster sounds these guys want to create and that they have talent from even Diablo 3 working with them.

I'm backing this sucker at $75 to get the Soundboard and all audio they create as it's finished. Maybe some of you guys (or gals like me) would find it useful.

And some details on it:

Name: The Realmsound Project

Coincidentally I actually met the guys behind the Realmsound project yesterday at a meet up. Didn't even know it was them till a Convo on Kickstarter Projects happened. And now I'm going to start gaming with them next week here in the OC! :))

So my final shameless plug for them as a celebration. Got 24 hours left on their campaign! Let's rally the troops and reach their funding goals! :)

OK, a heads up about a Kickstarter for my first RPG product called Frozen Skies.

Frozen Skies is part of a new Dieselpunk campaign setting for the award winning Savage Worlds system and is set in the mysterious, frozen lands of Alyeska, it is an in-depth and informative guide to its history, geography, myths and legends. After Frozen Skies is successfully launched, further books are planned to cover a much wider setting known as the Realms of Darmonica.

The Kickstarter is intended to fund the Frozen Skies book with the view to release it as a PDF and through Print-On-Demand.

Thanks for your time and even more so if you decide to back this project, but by all means please help spread the word about it.

Red Aegis (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/vorpalgames/red-aegis-roleplaying-game) "A millennia-spanning, strategic tabletop roleplaying game from industry award-winning designers Brian R. James and Matt James."

Brian James is the guy who compiled a fan timeline of the entire Forgotten Realms and got it published by WoTC (The Grand History of the Realms). Both of them have many other D&D credits and I'm really interested to see how this game shakes out.

I'm probably not going to pledge though.

The SAGE level pledge ($75) is the first pledge level that gets you a hard copy of the Core rulebook. There's a lower level pledge ($20) that gets you a hard copy of the Players Guide but those who want the full rules to the game have got to put out at least $75, plus shipping (an extra $34 outside the U.S.)

I really want to support them but I can't justify spending 75+ on a Core rulebook and I'm not interested in just getting the Players Guide because I actually want to run the game.

Everyone has different gaming budgets though, so if it won't hurt your wallet then definitely pledge...and then leave a comment on the KS asking for lower prices.

This is not the first RPG kickstarter to kind of hit you with sticker shock.

I understand that not every KS will be Fate Core, but between this and Primeval Thule, there's several kickstarter projects I'd love to back but which ask too much for the risk involved.

Call of Cthulhu was up there too, but since it's an established product line with a deep history by a reputable company... Well, it's something less of a risk.

This was one of the biggest struggles we had to work with prior to going forward with the project. Our margins are already paper-thin when considering writing, editing, and art. Trust me when I say we don't want to charge more than we have to. One way we plan to mitigate this is to pile on stretch-goal benefits that will close that gap. We're a week in and about to reach funding. One reached, we can focus on making that kind of investment more worth while. My goal is to make that $75 level packed full of additional product and services. If funding continues to grow, you'll see the hard-cover version make it's way to lower level tiers.

Welcome to the Jungle (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1tj2zJ2Wvg) Playground Matt. Always nice to have game designers come here and talk about their stuff.

I figured that the high cost was one of necessity rather than greed, no worries there. What kind of additional products would be offered at the SAGE level with the stretch goals? I'm primarily interested in other physical books; even if just one other hard copy is added (players guide, adventure, etc) that would be enough to help justify the $75 cost. Two books for that amount is still expensive but they'd be new products and I expect a certain amount of price inflation due to the nature of kickstarter (need the capital to make the product in the first place).

So we're looking at several things. One, we want to increase the actual size of the book. So for the same cost, you'll get an even larger sourcebook with even more material. Two, we're looking to add separate adventures and supplimental guides--not unlike ones you would find with other large publishers. Lastly, we want to include the Hacker's Guides that we speak about on the Kickstarter page. These will assist you in integrating our game with the game of your choice. So, if you wanted to integrate Red Aegis with Pathfinder (for example), we would have that included. I'm going to do everything I can to make this game both enjoyable, and affordable. The starting line is the hard part to get past at first :)

The hardcopy isn't unreasonable for most kickstarters I've seen, but the PDF tier seems elevated. Not as bad as Primeval Thule (which I really want but can't justify for that price), but do you think a lower PDF tier would make up for the lower revenue in added volume?

A quick update: io9 has an interview this morning with Primeval Thule designer Rich Baker. Check it out here (http://bit.ly/18FoOo2).

Our campaign is building momentum. Only one week left if you want to get a copy of Primeval Thule for yourself--back it on our Kickstarter page here (kck.st/11dxIWq).

And if you have any questions, ask away!

Low print-run publishing is definitely a costly pursuit, yeah. On the bright side, I'd say you're pretty sure to hit your funding goal, so at least the first stretch goal appears to be a pretty reasonable target. Here's hoping you get the funding to do a big ol' print run of the hard cover!

Dragon Kings Project (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1084491323/dragon-kings)

We're 50% funded on day 2 and we've recently added new gamer-centric funding levels.

Dragon Kings is a new fantasy game world conceived and presented in fiction, art, and music simultaneously by Timothy Brown.

Khitus is a world in decline. New heroes must emerge to challenge the wicked before all is lost …

The benevolent Dragon Kings who once ruled over Khitus have inexplicably vanished, leaving once-powerful nations at the mercy of foul creatures unchecked. Cold Skins and Krikis grow numerous and bold. Desperate cities of the Old Countries struggle against savage marauders who stalk ever closer to their crumbling walls. Ancient wizard schools guard their tomes more jealously than ever, essential to their dark sorcerous bargains, while the followers of a mysterious prophet rekindle the magic-that-is-not-magic. The essential materials of life and civilization are being ruthlessly plundered by the mysterious Pretenders in their Black Fortress, leaving the southern lands, especially, in dire straits.

Adventurers must face the wrath of a violent world to not only survive but to right these wrongs, protect the innocent, seek the fate of the Dragon Kings, and reintroduce some semblance of justice to a world on the brink of destruction.

Dragon Kings is a new fantasy game world conceived and presented in fiction, art, and music simultaneously by Timothy Brown, co-creator of Dark Sun and 2300AD.

Hey Guys,

Orange County Gaming Group (OCGG) is on it's last day of funding for a project to create custom music, sound effects, and voice overs for
Tabletop Gamers, called the Realmsound Project 2.0. They're funded and are working through their stretch goals. I'm loving the idea of their custom soundboard app where I can organize and mix all of my audio in particular. Anyway, details below.

Quote from their KS:
"Often using an OST from Lord of the Rings or other great movies just doesn’t quite set the particular setting that the GM is striving for. It’s not easy finding a sorrowful howl of an undead or the ground shaking thunder of a charging orc hoard. Trying to change your voice just a little bit or adding an accent to try to bring some life to those non-player characters gets tiring and falls a bit flat. Everything changes now! We are the Orange County Gaming Group and we are bringing tabletop gaming to the next level by composing a library of custom made, high quality music, voice overs, and sound effects, made by rockstar talent. What we have sourced has been unbelievable and has transformed the way we game, but don’t take our word for it….."

I just wanted to post that the Pro Audio Collection for RPG, Board Game, LARP & Miniatures I mentioned some posts earlier*, just got relaunched and got way more awesomer in my opinion.

Basic deals are now 25$ for either at least 76 weapon/spell tracks, 125 monster/trap tracks or 50 background/music tracks. Or just 50$ for all + some extras.

Here's a new link: Pro Tabletop Gaming Audio Collection (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1281758745/pro-tabletop-gaming-audio-collection)

*(I'm not sure if this counts as a reminder or not - I thought not since it is technically a new Kickstarter, but if someone thinks this is, I will remove this post)

I dropped in to point to the (in my opinion really good) Pro Audio Collection for RPG, Board Game, LARP & Miniatures (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1281758745/pro-audio-collection-for-rpg-board-game-larp-and-m):

The projects aims to add background sounds and sound effects suitable for RPG gaming.
In my opinion the highlights are the background sounds, they are each 10min long and designed to be loop-able (so you don't notice if the track is on repeat) - and the $35 level gets you at least 47 tracks.

I'm really satisfied with the rewards from the first one Kickstarter he did earlier this year (for reference Professional MP3 Background Loops for Role-Playing Games (www.kickstarter.com/projects/1281758745/professional-mp3-background-loops-for-role-playing)), so I can only suggest to check out the actually running Kickstarter to get new background sound (Some of the planned background tracks are: "Horror House Basement", "Angry Pichfork Mob" and "Robot Patrolled Hellscape", with sounds for weapons (e.g "Clubs"), spells (e.g. "Fireball") and monsters (e.g. "Dragons"))

I was happy to see them split out the sci-fi from the fantasy, but yes, it doesn't look like enough new pledges are interested to give Expansion 3 its real value. I really hope Expansion 2 Part 3 comes through at least, I really want those purple minis and am already basically sold on Expansion 2.

Would be fantastic if we saw a rush in the last days, though.

I got in at Wave 6 shipping, but someone fiddling with their pledge opened a spot in Wave 2. Very pleased. Really looking forward to the outcomes in any event; $100 for that core set is still a ridiculous bargain.

While I must say the core set deal is really awesome, and I have at the moment a spot in Wave 1, I think ultimately I will drop out mainly because of International shipping.

I backed the first Kickstarter and I can say I was satisfied with it, but I think for gaining the same value I would need to spend nearly the double amount (Higher shipping [also resulting higher import fees], and from my point of view there is no "free $25" for addons in form of the Sophie-swap [and luckily selecting Kaladrax for it, which was a really good choice]).
But maybe something will happen that convinces me to stay in, I'm not sure yet.

If that is too rich for ya check out the core expansion for $50 that can be added to the base pledge of $1. Remember Core and Expansions are just going to get bigger as the pledge numbers mount.

Minis painting is lots of fun, and the reaper kickstarter is a great way to get started. Just make sure you check out the advice on the reaper forums on painting bones minis. You have to paint em up a little differently than metal ones. Fortunately the reaper forum is full of friendly people who are happy to help and offer advice.

I am surprised not to see this here, although perhaps I missed it. Unwritten (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1748001141/unwritten-adventures-in-the-ages-of-myst-and-beyon) is a new RPG being designed, using the Fate Core engine and based off the Myst/Riven world. It still has one week to go! The good news is that it's already funded, meaning that you will be getting something - along with benefits from the stretch goals. $10 for the PDF and $50 for the softcover book is a pretty decent price, if you're interested. They also have their own forums (http://www.unwrittenrpg.com/forum/), if you want to ask questions or get clarifications before putting money down on it.

This isn't the original people who created Myst. (They actually have their own video game they're making. (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cyaninc/obduction)) However, they do have the license to produce the game, and apparently have some good talent on board - including the person who wrote the Myst books to write some fiction for the RPG. Look it over, perhaps post on the forum, and judge for yourself if it's worth spending money on.

I'm definitely interested in getting a copy, though.

Note that this project is completely different from Unwritten (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/594743529/unwritten-echoes-of-twilight), the video game RPG from a TES modding community.)

So for any playgrounders who have not heard, Monte Cook and Bruce Cordell are working together on a new game "The Strange":

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1433901524/the-strange-a-tabletop-rpg-by-bruce-cordell-and-mo

If you are a fan of Monte's older work like Dark*Matter, and like story driven games, this is a sweet deal. It is based on the same core system as Numenara, but with a Modern Earth setting, but with "recursions" that let you leave earth and visit places with any genre or rules you want.

Just a week to go, and the pledge levels are filling out nicely. Be sure to check the chart at the bottom, not the sidebar text, to see all the sweet rewards at each level.

I'm doing a Kickstarter for a project called Derbalan Shuffle. Here are some links with good information:
The Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/529531809/derbalan-shuffle-deck-building-roleplaying-game)
The Website (http://www.puppycatproductions.com/derbalan-shuffle.html)

It's a rules-light RPG that uses cards for character abilities and random chance. It makes a terrific one-shot and it's great for hilarious campaigns. You can pick classes like the Elementalist, who masters the three fundamental elements of reality (rock, paper, and scissors).

There's also monsters like the chinchilla con queso and the possessed pants. Combat is quick and often hilarious. I'll leave you with some artwork.

I had no prior experience with KODT and I did find the pitch quite nice - also it is only a proof of concept, so I would assume the final product will be more polished.
I didn't back though - but that has more to do with the rewards, In my eyes $35 for the digital download in only 480p quality (or if I understand correctly $70 for a HD download) seems kinda expensive (maybe I would pay that if I were a fan - but as I said I really do not know KODT and to try it out it is too much imo). In addition I just have a slight negative opinion of campaigns that go way longer than 30 days.
The most expensive Web Series I backed is Space Janitors (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/635272374/space-janitors-webseries-season-3) (still going, $25 gets instant access to an archive containing HD downloads of the first two seasons and a bunch of bonus material - and to Season 3 when it is finished)

Hey, thank you so much! That's fantastic. We're doing shockingly well - 8 days in, we're at something like 1025 backers and 1100% funded. Pinch me.

TimeWatch stands completely alone. I'm using my own version of the GUMSHOE rules that I've tuned for investigation and time travel. I'll also have guidelines for yoinking in rules from other GUMSHOE games, or for using time travel elsewhere, but that's just in the "hacking the game" section.

The download packet has a bunch of quick-start cheat sheets in there. One of them is based off my GUMSHOE 101 sheet that's floating around on the internet, and it does a pretty good job of distilling how to play down to a single page.

A favor? As someone entirely new to the rules, you're kind of an ideal guinea pig test subject playtester; be sure to holler if you read the Jurassic Edition (you can download it in Update #1) and let me know if you find anything that isn't clear and fun to read. I will be delighted to hear what you think, good and bad.

And of course, folks are welcome to holler with questions if I can be of any use.

Yeah, I am backing that one for now, but I'm getting cold feet in part due to the sheer number of projects I'm backing. (You, Iron Edda, Tiny Epic Kingdoms, Eldritch Skies, and that one.)

One of the things I almost demand from an RPG kickstarter these days - at least, the ones that look really unique - is a rules preview of some sort, much like you're providing. For a concept like a stealth RPG (which has never been done right) this is even more important. I dunno yet.

True. I've been cautious about backing projects that don't have at least part of the game already written. It really helps ratchet down completion risk.

EDIT: I sat down this morning and listed out what stretch goals we've unlocked at the 10 day mark. Currently unlocked:

- An additional TW postcard for $50 pledge levels and up
- A TimeWatch musical theme by James Semple
- Hardback book
- Low-art tablet edition (with 3Pub & mobi)
- Self-calculating PDF character sheets by Matthew Breen
- Expanded race section
- Historical NPCs
- Crossover rules with TimeWatch and other GUMSHOE books
- Campaign style expansion: Pulp action
- Campaign style expansion: A Single Leap (1-2 players)
- Campaign style expansion: Rebellion
- Campaign style expansion: Time Tourist, by Rose Bailey (of White Wolf and Onyx Path)
- Campaign style expansion: Conspiracy
- Mission hook by Kenneth Hite
- Mission hook by Heather Albano
- Mission hook (Pulp) by Corey Reid (of Dino-Pirates of Ninja Island)
- Mission hook (Time Tourist) by John Adamus
- Mission hook (Conspiracy) by Kennon Bauman

Hey, the actual game is starting to match my vision for it!

Latest update (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/wordstudio/project-dark/posts/743895) has an awesome Actual Play report of the game. As you advance through levels, you tick off more cards to add to your deck, which expands your capabilities.

Some of the updates (backers-only!) have chunks of information about how the game works. If you pledge $1, that's enough to have a look. To be honest, I'm backing this off of word-of-mouth reputation and off of several concepts I'm seeing associated with it.

Bump in the Night, A Role Playing Game of Paranormal Investigation

Have you guys heard about this game? I played in one of it's betas over the summer and had a very fun time. The creator has put it up on Kickstarter to get money to publish it, so you can see it here. Bump in the Night (http://kck.st/1lZbCAQ)

It is like Supernatural and Paranormal Activity had a role play baby. You play with the other's in a research team tracking down the weird and trying to forward your agenda (Our group were trying to become rich and famous off of it) Different members have different abilities as you try to learn about the ghost or demon or whatever and stop it from doing bad things. I had tons of fun.

Don't see this mentioned yet, but Center Stage Miniatures has 10 days left on their "Tome of Horrors 2" Kickstarter, with lots of quirky old-school minis, most of which will be done in metal and a few in resin.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/centerstageminis/tome-of-horrors-complete-ii-more-monsters-from-the

The downside is, they're still fulfilling their previous Tome of Horrors kickstarter. I wish they'd waited until fulfillment was done before launching another one, but the greens for ToH1 by and large look great so I'm showing this one some support. They lose a few points because of the timing, but I like the assortment of minis being represented.

Turnout is fairly light right now but I'm hoping for a ramp up at the end to at least achieve the stretch goals that have been revealed so far. Be sure to read the front page; they've sweetened the deal quite a bit in the main description especially for the $200 level, but Kickstarter doesn't let them edit the original sidebar rewards description once someone has claimed one.

We are proud to present Avalanche: an epic campaign and its application
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/671321082/avalanche-an-epic-campaign-and-its-website

Avalanche is a multi-storyline campaign set in a Dark Fantasy setting. It is compatible with (almost) any systems but as soon as our stretch goals get financed, will provide rules, guidelines and character sheets for:

http://www.existanc3.com/Front/CompatibleSystem.png

Since avalanche is really voluminous (almost 400 page including over 40 npc,15 races, 20 organizations, 15 major locations and over 300 events depicting three month of campaign), we had to bring it to you in a new format. A format more suitable to a campaign that hangs on time as it's driving tool. So the Kickstarter is also about a web site dedicated to manage Avalanche. Here are some screen shot of what we want to bring to you:

Greetings

Yesterday our Erevos Indiegogo project was launched!

Either you choose to live in Sun's Tear

Or Theogonia :

Your impact may change the whole world!

In Erevos you can shape history!

A few points presenting what Erevos is all about:

• Erevos offers the opportunity to play ‘Rhapsodies’: short personalized adventures written by professional adventure authors specifically for 1 adventuring party, tailored to the needs of the players (theme preferences, characters backgrounds and goals, players likes and dislikes etc)!

• Erevos is a truly living campaign setting, in the sense that the world evolves according to players' will and actions. There are no significant NPCs making decisions or major random events dictating the future!

• Erevos leaves great room for creativity: by registering in the community, you can upload your custom creations (orders, faiths and so on) and see them become official if the community approves them!

• Erevos is a world of political influence: you can determine some part of the world's history by participating in local political councils or even create a kingdom of your own!

• Erevos acknowledges your character's accomplished tasks: every registered character has a personal on-line profile page where he can upload his adventures and socialize, much like a social networking platform. The most significant events are recorded in the On-line History Time-line becoming part of Erevos official history!

• All in all, Erevos aims to provide a free, dynamic setting to everyone interested in running a home game and a high quality personalized service to all subscribers by maintaining personal contact and tailoring the gaming experience to each player’s needs. Personalized service is offered to players with ‘Growing’ characters who have several privileges compared to regular ones among which:

- Receiving Rhapsodies through their subscription
- Participation in Conclaves of Authority, regional councils that determine local politics (through Erevos forum)
- Access to Kingdom-making (design in all aspects of their settlement which may grow into a metropolis)

Hi all,

I recently launched a new RPG on Kickstarter, Altais: Age of Ruin.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1121209158/altais-age-of-ruin-a-dystopian-fantasy-rpg

http://parheliagames.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/ProjectImage1.png

Altais is a dystopian fantasy RPG set in the distant future, combing elements of sci-fi and magic together in a world full of fallen kingdoms, strange magic and planar travel.

The land is ruled by corrupt forces and undermined by constant conflict and rebellion.
Relic hunters raid the ruins of ancient cities in search of treasure, and adventurers explore other realms to discover their secrets. Many of the cities are in ruins or overgrown like this one:

http://parheliagames.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/KingdomOfSerpents.png

Magic is one of the focuses of the game, and there are no arcane gestures or invocations involved. Magic users have the ability to weaken or strengthen the barriers between other realms, each of which has it's own unique properties. By allowing the energy from these realm in (or by denying the normal background amounts that seep through) spell casters can create all kinds of magical effect.

I recently posted a whole update about magic and the realms, check it out here:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1121209158/altais-age-of-ruin-a-dystopian-fantasy-rpg/posts/813586

One of the major threats to the land are creatures called the Rephaim. They come from one of the other realms, humans who have been mutated by its energies and some of them are thousands of years old and still have access to ancient technology.

There are other forces out there to threaten the players, a whole wild ecology that includes these sentient draconic creatures:

I'll be doing daily updates on the world, it's kingdoms, people and more so check it out and let me know if you have any questions, I'd love to know what aspects everyone finds most interesting :)

I leave you with the Lyse flower, a symbol used by the Parliament of White Lies to represent rebellion and murder.
Handing the flower and a name to one of their agents guarantees the target will be dead before the day is over.

Concept Cards: Plot Hooks (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/703093372/concept-cards-plot-hooks-instant-story-inspiration)

They are:

A 54 card deck of playing cards.
Printed on high quality cardstock so that they will last for years of use.
54 fantasy plot-lines that can be used as short side plots in an ongoing story, or can serve as the foundation for a whole campaign.
Usable for hundreds of unique games... most of which haven't been invented yet!
The third of the Concept Cards line, which includes Locations (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/703093372/location-cards-a-deck-of-54-fantastic-locales) and Characters (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/703093372/character-cards-instant-npcs-just-add-water).
Detailed plots, each with five separate aspects.

Rare Elements RPG Fantasy Currency (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/654503844/rare-elements-rpg-fantasy-currency) is having it's 2nd Kickstarter. I backed this one and the first one at the full set level ($60 for the previous kickstarter, $68 for this one.)

The fantasy coins are high quality and a very nice gaming aid/prop. There's an Early Bird special backing level to get the full set of 60 coins at $58 instead of $68 (166 left of 250 slots at the time of this posting). Osbourne Coinage handled the Kickstarter well and shipped the coins on schedule for the previous Kickstarter so I've no concerns about backing again. Here are some pics.

Hi Folks,
My husband and I have launched a Kickstarter for our journals designed just for RPGs.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/363527555/role-playing-game-adventure-journals

We're offering two different length journals. One is 50 pages and the other is 100 pages. Both are 8 by 10 inches paperbacks with matte covers so you can write the name of your adventure. The first page has spots for basic game info: GM, players, characters, set up, chronicler. There's a page for listing items found during the adventure as well as spots for sketches, grids for maps and plenty of space for keeping track of events.

Other items include a 18 X 24 inch map of Silicon Valley done in Lord of the Rings style, bookmarks and greeting cards.

Check it out!

I have wanted to do this line for a while, and wanted some good Goblin characters for my RPG games, skirmishes, and dungeoncrawls. The project's main goal is to fund the creation and production of 18 Goblin personalities and characters to be used in RPGs, tabletop games, and even wargames. We have hired industry veteran Bobby Jackson to head the sculpting on this project.

Caleb Stokes of Hebanon Games (http://hebanon.blogspot.com/) and Role Playing Public Radio (http://slangdesign.com/rppr/) is Kickstarting a supplement for the Super Villain game Better Angels (http://www.arcdream.com/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=14&products_id=53) called No Soul Left Behind.

Link to kickstarter here. (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/arcdream/no-soul-left-behind)

I have been listening to the actual play of the playtest on RPPR and have been having a blast. Link to the actual play here (http://actualplay.roleplayingpublicradio.com/the-spared-and-the-spoiled-a-better-angels-campaign/). Don't be confused by the it being named 'The Spared and the Spoiled' they changed the name to No Soul half way through.

I have been following Caleb Stokes as an RPG author since he ran a phenomenal Eclipse Phase campaign on RPPR called Know Evil and have been enjoying his published RPG material ever since. So now I'm telling you about the kickstarter in hopes of helping it's success so that I can keep enjoying more RPG material from him.

P.S. If you are interested in Better Angels it's on the Bundle of Holding (http://bundleofholding.com/index/current) for for the next 7 days.

Necromancer Games: Back for 5th Edition (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/necromancergames/necromancer-games-back-for-5th-edition?ref=nav_search)

This kickstarter has been running since July 4th weekend, and goes through early September. It's currently already funded, and passed several stretch goals along the way as well. This Kickstarter includes three books:

5th Edition Foes - a monster book that starts out with 200 monsters (about 220 pages) and grows based on stretch goals. It's currently at 220 monsters now, and the next stretch goal adds 20 more.
Quests of Doom - this book starts off with 12 adventures; stretch goals can push it as high as 18.
Book of Lost Spells - This unlocks at $45,000 raised (it's just under $10,000 away now). The estimate is 250 pages of new spells for 5th edition.

The project has quality people working on it (Greg Vaughan, Bill Webb, Matt Finch, Steve Winter, Skip Williams, Ed Greenwood, James Ward, and more). FGG / Necormancer Games produces books via a textbook printer; bindings will last you a crazy long time on these books. Lots of bang for your buck here, and more to come - including stuff I can't talk about at the moment.

I know there's quality people, but how do we know there's quality rules? The 5e books haven't been released yet, and the DMG is supposed to be the big "hacker's guide" for homebrewers and 3rd party publishers alike. I can still remember Sword & Sorcery's awful Creature Catalog...

That's a fair question. Obviously, I can't say if you'll like the 5e rules, hate 'em, or not give a dire rat's hairy behind about them. What I can say is that Steve Winter is leading the project; he was one of the designers (along with Wolfgang Baur) who worked on the Tyranny of Dragons adventures for Wizards (via Kobold Press). The expectation is that having Steve on staff means the rules are right. Whether you end up enjoying the rules or not, of course, is a personal decision.

On a personal level, I think a lot of the stuff should convert to other system easily enough. All of the adventures, for example, should translate across systems with the DM/GM just needing to "plug in" stats for monsters and NPCs (with some tweaks, of course). Monsters will require work to build the stats, but the concepts will be there and so it's just a matter of slapping together the right pieces

My suggestion? Keep an eye on things if the system is all that makes you wary. The Kickstarter runs until September 4th. The PHB releases by then, and should give people a good feel for the rules system.

My visual novel game, Queen At Arms (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1297221353/queen-at-arms), is finally on Kickstarter after a year of development! We're shipping it in January, assuming successful funding.

It's full of branching paths, death, and hot boys. The decision-making aspect is modeled after Telltale's Walking Dead.

We were just funded... T_T a backer pledged $1000 in one go....

We're trying to choose our first stretch goal.

Some ideas:
• Alternate poses for all the boys (workload on Li+Emily)
• More branching paths (workload on Rosstin+Diana+Seren)
• More CGs (workload on Emily)
• More endings (workload on Seren+Diana+Rosstin)
• More soldiers (workload on Li+Emily)
• Better GUI and animations (workload on Rosstin+Emily)
• More complex action sequences (workload on Rosstin+???)

On August 28th, say goodbye to the shackles of Vancian magic with Strange Magic (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1394597776/strange-magic-new-magic-systems-for-the-pathfinder), a collection of exciting magic systems compatible with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. Written in association with Flying Pincushion Games and Thilo "Endzeitgeist" Graf, Strange Magic expands upon the Ethermagic, Musical Composition, and Truename Magic systems released by Interjection Games earlier this year with brand new base classes, archetypes, prestige classes, spells, and feats. To date, the number of spells present in this book is over 500 and is still growing by the day!

Additional custom art by Gary Dupuis, archetypes, prestige classes, and even base classes will be added to the book at regular funding intervals, and announcements will be made as to what we desperately cook up if this happens faster than we expected. In short, if this Kickstarter takes off, the end product will become the sort of book that makes brave bookshelves weep - even the oak ones. As of posting, we're already 85% of the way funded and are poised to absolutely annihilate the stretch goals. I'm looking forward to breaking as many bookshelves as possible.

Contents

3 new systems of magic unlike anything else compatible with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: truename magic (redesigned and remastered), musical composition (custom bardic performances), and ethermagic (advanced warlock)
Over 500 manifestations, compositions, and recitations!
7 new base classes: cantor, ethermagus, ethermancer, etherslinger, maestro, scion discordia, and truenamer
4 new prestige classes: polycosmic theurge, speaker of the word, willshackler, and wordsworn defender
9 new archetypes: arranger, herald of creation, herald of madness, herald of the void, orator, truescribe, verminspeaker, virtuoso, and voidstalker
NPC writeups for all classes, archetypes, and prestige classes - Strange Magic is a stealth NPC codex!

Ethermagic

What is it? - Ethermagic is a magic system that is defined by its plasticity and its inexhaustibility. Simply put, you have a spell point pool, a regeneration rate per round, and can build spells on the fly from various pieces, or manifestations, rather than being forced to prepare spells ahead of time. Given this approach, it is balanced against the capabilities of martial classes, but can "nuke" to some extent by burning more ether points than the regeneration rate grants. Most ethermagic users who try anything fancy will be doing this rather quickly.

Ethermagus - Tap into the infinite power of the ether, summon your void blade, and start etherstriking with the ethermagus, a brand new alternate class by Jason Linker of Flying Pincushion Games! This class features the brand new voidmeld etherheart, which allows the ethermagus to customize his personal void blade on the fly, as well as a number of ways to choke the fight out of his foes with the force of the ether itself. And yes, your void blade can go way past +5 without a problem. The ether does not subscribe to your pitiful physics.

Etherslinger - In the icy blackness of space, nobody can outsmart bullet. Written by Endzeitgeist himself, the etherslinger alternate class is a deconstruction of the gunslinger with some ethermagic thrown in for good measure. Gone are the days of having to go into melee because bullets are prohibitively expensive. Instead, pull some energy out of the void, load it into the chamber, and start firing! Grit and ether points combine to allow for a complex resource management game, while a new talent system replaces autogranted gunslinger deeds and allows for powerful customization from etherslinger to etherslinger.

Heralds of the Multiverse - The heralds of creation, madness, and the void are a series of archetypes for the ethermancer base class that each have their own explanation for the way the universe is. Are you the celestial protector and superhero, the servant of elder abominations, or the selfish egotist?

More feats, manifestations, and greater manifestations!

https://s3.amazonaws.com/ksr/assets/002/500/456/3e997700a1c41cd7021b14b024d3653b_large.jpg?1409234 541

Musical Composition

What is it? - Musical composition allows for the creation of custom musical scores. Each score is made up of an intro, which triggers when conducting begins, a number of stackable melodies, which provide their function for the duration of the performance, and an outro, which triggers when the performance ceases.

Cantor - Sick of the orchestra? Lead the choir! Written by Jason Linker, the cantor base class puts away the arcane bells and whistles of the maestro and instead picks up a number of divine tricks all her own. Complete with her own composition and opus lists, the cantor brings the idea of musical composition full-circle. Just as the bard straddles arcane and divine magic, so too follow the composers.

Arranger - Whenever one man makes a masterpiece, others start arranging it in an effort to show that they could have done it better. This archetype for the maestro base class allows you to do just that - add melodies to your opuses to prove that you know the way the 1812 Overture should have ended.

Virtuoso - Why compose when you can also play? This archetype for the maestro and cantor base classes does away with the ability to cast, but grants the ability to make bardic performances instead. Achieve total aural saturation by conducting a score and performing a bardic performance all at the same time!

https://s3.amazonaws.com/ksr/assets/002/500/459/5fc4cfb3d65fe086e4c6c0730bed896a_large.jpg?1409234 581

Truename Magic

What is it? - A from-the-ground up reconstruction of the classic 3.5 system with entirely new core, metamagic, and spell systems, classes using Interjection Games' truename magic uses pseudo-Concentration checks in order to cast spells. Flexible metamagic, called inflections, allows for the application of special modifiers, such as faster casting or additional targets, to any spell, called recitations, that the class can cast; however, as casting gets harder the more a specific spell has been cast per day, and as using inflections increases the rate at which a spell gets harder, using these inflections literally dumps the caster's resources up to five times faster than casting without. Combined with copious resources provided by lower level recitations that get easier and easier to cast, but do not scale with level, this new truenamer is perfect for those players who love to spam numerous effects and chain combos in order to keep up with the party. It's dynamic. It's rewarding. But, as the abilities never scale, it's never overpowered.

Savant of Heart and Mind - Most truenamers fight long and hard to learn how to think like a thing or like a place so that they may leverage the various codices that reference them. Some few simply end up being too alive to do so and focus on the Codex of Heart and Mind, the tome of First Language knowledge that concerns itself with living things. True masters of that codex, savants of heart and mind, a truenamer archetype, deal exclusively in its recitations and are known to have a vast vocabulary in that area of expertise.

"Babylonian/Cthulhu Base Class" - Endzeitgeist hasn't written it yet, but, from what notes we have, this base class reaches out to Lovecraftian horrors existing beyond time and space and leverages their power to force the universe to conform to the class' will.

Yeah, that's basically what you need to know. The Hong Kong Action Movie RPG is having its golden comeback. It's blowing away "stretch goals" left and right.

Wow, thanks Chance. We're really excited about this new Demon Hunters RPG: A Comedy of Terrors. This Don Early, president of Dead Gentlemen Productions, and you covered a lot of what I would say. Um. Thanks for that. :)

If you love rules systems like the ICONS Superhero system, or Fate Accelerated, Fate Core, Cortex Plus... you're totally gonna dig what Cam Banks is cooking in the Demon Hunters RPG rules. We've got a working title we're calling it, "Faith Core". I roll my eyes a little at that, and then I kind of love it at the same time.

Please, check us out. Happy to answer any questions. The Kickstarter link is here: http://kck.st/1o0uXxT

Or you can just go to www.demonhuntersrpg.com

Thanks again Chance!

FENG SHUI 2! (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/atlasgames/feng-shui-2-action-movie-roleplaying-game-by-robin)

One of the greatest RPGs of all time is coming back, better than ever! I took part in the playtest, and it looks like they took a lot of our feedback to heart! This is an amazingly fun, fast-paced game full of kung-fu, eunuch sorcerers, cyborg gorillas, and explosions. If you've never checked it out - or the CCG Shadowfist - dive right in. You can get a preview of the rules as soon as you pledge!

My Fate Accelerated cosmic horror anime RPG Breakfast Cult (http://kck.st/1AM2DHh) has a week to go and is deep into stretch goal territory, so it's a great time to check it out!

http://i.imgur.com/dbz7HWv.png

In Breakfast Cult, you play students of a near-future occult high school who have to solve a mystery and stop an Ancient One before it awakens. The problem is that half your classmates have a secret agenda, and they're usually not nice...

The core book contains setting information, new mechanics, advice on running mysteries and cosmic horror in Fate, writeups for the Ancient Ones and their minions, and enough characters, adventure hooks, sample agendas and other tools for your group to put together an adventure in a hurry (or even randomly generate one, if you like). The stretch goals add expansion packs with extra content, including the Cthulhu Mythos, Japanese mythology and cosmic horror-flavoured magical girls, and some backer tiers let you insert your characters or add other content!

You Need These Dice (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1337918833/you-need-these-dice)

What do you get for pledging? Dice, obviously. Just look at the provided pictures, they are looking fabulous and will be a hit on every gaming table anywhere.

Here is just one picture of the basic Wizards Gambit set, more on the Kickstarter page, also for the other designs (Blood Splatter and Thieves):

At the time of posting this, the campaign is funded and running great, 58 hours left now. So, why am I posting this?

a) Britt (the creator) is a nice guy
b) He announced a last stretch goal of $75,000, we are now at $56,500.
c) The dice are awesome and need to be out there at as many gaming tables as possible.

I know, if everyone has these, they aren't as unique as they could be, but still will always look great. :smallcool:

Shipping is free within the US, for other countries just ask him (and then yourself whether you think it is worth it - I think it is, and it's $28 to ship to Germany ...).

Hello, I'm Peter and I have written a campaign for the Base Raiders RPG (https://www.baseraiders.com/) created by Ross Payton, he of Role Playing Public Radio (http://slangdesign.com/rppr/).

Base Raiders is a game about super powered dungeon crawling. The world was once protected by a powerful group of heroes known as the Ideal but about a year ago they all vanished, leaving behind their hidden bases and vaults. Boiling Point is a multiple part quest to save the world while lining your own pockets by exploring through an abandoned underwater superhero base. Powered by a modified version of Strange FATE Boiling Point (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rosspayton/boiling-point-a-superheroic-adventure) offers several super powers ready for player use, piles of loot to steal, and an entire undersea base of traps, allies, enemies, and puzzles that can be used as presented or mined for use in your own game.

http://i.imgur.com/ZpK1OZC.jpg (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rosspayton/boiling-point-a-superheroic-adventure)

Pledging for this Kickstarter will allow you to purchase a PDF of Boiling Point or a Print-On-Demand copy at cost. Depending on the level you choose or add-ons you can also get the core Base Raiders game as well as all of the supplemental materials developed so far.

Still on the fence? Listen to the wonderful cast of Role Playing Public Radio run through the scenario (http://actualplay.roleplayingpublicradio.com/2014/09/systems/fate/base-raiders-fate/base-raiders-boiling-point-part-1). Give it a listen and then consider giving Boiling Point a pledge.

Well hello there;

My name is John and I write as J.M. Perkins. Here's the one paragraph pitch for my Kickstarter:

The Adequate Commoner is the first, the only gaming book designed to facilitate playing a commoner or extremely low powered character in Pathfinder; adding more tactical thinking, tension, and encouraging a guerrilla warfare approach to gameplay. The 130+ page supplement provides an overview and unexpected use for existing material in addition to expanded options for nearly any character. Do more with less, never fight fair, and survive and thrive in a world that expects you to fail. Your characters will level, you’ll level as a player, and you’ll never have a better, more challenging time rolling dice.

In addition to my work, we're including a bonus adventure from the guys who did Pure Steam, complimentary books from Misfit Studios, as well as stretch goals for even more from Avalon Games, Christina Styles Presents, and Skortched Urf publishing.

Bump the thread because 'WTF, Commoner Adventurers?!?' click through for the amusing video, and pledge because it's awesome.

The Adequate Commoner (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jmperkins/the-adequate-commoner)

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

PS I have credits with Misfit Studios (Bite Me: A Player's Guide to Lycanthropes), Rogue Genius Games (Ultimate Options: Story Feats) and I'm a contract writer for Avalon's upcoming Monster Hunter line. Also, as indicated above, the book is being put out Misfit Studios who are seriously awesome.

It's using a variant of the Apocalypse Engine, which you might know from Apocalypse World, Dungeon World, or Monsterhearts. It looks pretty great; you can play any of the standbys of classic 70's TV and cinema... Foxy Brown, Smokey and the Bandit, and so on.

DEMON HUNTERS DESIGN BRIEFING #1 (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/deadgentlemen/demon-hunters-rpg-a-comedy-of-terrors/posts/1011423)

Listen up, recruits! You’re facing the imminent collapse of polite society and the loss of everything we hold dear at the hands of gut-busting demons, blood-sucking vampires, and mind-shattering Elder Gods. And right now, the only thing standing in the way of all of that is you, so we need to get through this.

Demon Hunters: A Comedy of Terrors (AKA DH:ACOT) is a full-spectrum tabletop combat simulation (AKA “roleplaying game” or “RPG”) presently being funded through a highly-monitored alternate revenue stream that we’re not going to get into right now (AKA “Kickstarter.”) It’s my job as Primary Simulation Engineer (AKA “lead game designer”) to bring you up to speed on the development and design of this RPG so that if you were somehow in doubt about the veracity of the project’s authenticity and worthiness, all of those doubts will be as nothing in the light of faith and reason. Or at least you’ll have a good sense of what the rules are like.

Why We’re Going This Route

Many of you recruits are familiar with a popular series of training simulators collectively known as “Fate.” If that’s the case for you, much of this may seem familiar. Obviously we’ve tinkered with it a lot because we’ve got a very specific set of goals in mind, notably the training of brand-new fresh-faced Demon Hunters. But Fate, especially the offshoot branches known as Fate Accelerated and Icons Assembled (which isn’t technically Fate but… anyway, close enough), is the glistening god-core at the heart of DH:ACOT.

Our original, Windows XP-based server farms ran a Classic Cortex version of the training simulator but we’ve all moved on from there, like any IT department tries to do. This new roll-out is powered by Fate-like rules because we’ve determined that this training simulator needs to be slick, swift, easy to learn, and fun to master. Several higher-ups and directors and big brains said they wanted to keep those polyhedral dice, so we found a place for those. And we knew we had to make the training simulator accessible to varying degrees of gonzo irreverence, outright horror, and over the top action. So we’re layering all of that on top like a fine glaze.

We’re calling this system variant Faith Corps, because it’s a clever in-joke somebody came up with and there was a vote and I wasn’t involved, so suck it up.

The Core Mechanic

Your training avatar is given ratings from 1 to 10 in various Disciplines of the Brotherhood, from Combat and Covert to Mystic and Tech. In addition, your personality profile ranks your six Approaches toward various objectives in different sized dice, so your Clever Approach might be a six-sided die, while your Forceful Approach might be a ten-sider. With us so far?

When you want your avatar to do anything, you grab an Approach die, roll it, and add the result to the Discipline that makes the most sense for the situation. The poor bastard who’s running the training sim (AKA “Game Master”) also rolls a die and adds it to a number, but in this case the number is a Difficulty from 1 to 10 and the die is the Demon Die. What’s the Demon Die? It’s either an Approach belonging to a bad guy controlled by the Game Master, or it’s based on the general degree of badness that’s influencing everything. Sure, it could be a piece of cake to do something, meaning a low Difficulty, but when the crapola is about to hit the fan in a major way, the GM might grab a big Demon Die to make that 100% crystal clear.

So anyway, whoever rolls the highest wins, more or less. If you fail, bad stuff probably happens, or you succeed with a major cost. If you tie with the Game Master, you succeed but at a somewhat minor cost. If you succeed, then you get what you wanted. If you succeed by 4 points or more, than you kick ass. You’re going to want to kick ass. It’s how things blow up the best.

Because this is a training simulation based on the principles of Fate, it includes a kind of game currency called Faith Points (get it? Agents of Heaven? No? All right, get over it) which let you invoke certain qualities or Aspects attached to people, things, and situations. Aspects include certain conditions, descriptive elements, interesting facts about a thing—basically narrative nuggets that, when invoked, let you affect the outcome of your dice. Faith Points may also be spent to create additional story details within the training simulator (AKA “The Kobyashi Maru Effect”) or activate Stunts possessed by your avatar. Stunts run the gamut from cool tricks your Demon Hunter has acquired as a result of intense training to supernatural powers that come from being bitten by a were-aardvark. Regardless of their nature, they’re generally additional ways to affect the outcome.

So that’s pretty much it. Disciplines, Approaches, Faith Points, Aspects, and Stunts. They all come together to help you practice delivering righteous fury and insane amounts of mega-violence toward supernats, death-hags, time-traveling Hades Drones from the future, and vile demons named Brian.

Wait A Minute, There’s Got To Be More, Like How Does Magic Work

That’s enough for today, recruits! In the next Design Briefing we’re going to talk about the sorts of missions Demon Hunters need to undertake in training, how it is that the Brotherhood of the Celestial Torch includes reformed vampires and ambulatory databases in their number, and what magic is all about. Or at least the parts you’re cleared to know about. Until then… … WE RIDE!

Other World Mapper (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2138108959/other-world-mapper-map-design-software/posts): (EDIT: Now over 50%!!)

End date: Nov. 6, 2014
Goal: $8,750
So far (17:00, 10/17/2014): $4,639

Just stumbled upon this one. Looks to be a very user-friendly tool with some pretty intelligent automatic functions. Their video shows a whole map being made in what looks like a 90-minute project. And it looks pretty great at the end. One of their stretch goals is to make a dungeon-mapping mode.

I'm not overly familiar with a lot of mapping software, but someone who is could check it out and maybe do a comparison?

Edit: I reached out to one of the developers, here's what they said:

We see value in there being multiple options available for mapping software. That said, these are some of what we see as advantages

Other World Mapper has a modern GUI that is mapping centric, and allows you to change map objects real-time. For instance, you can select a water body, and you'll see all the properties of a water body in a side panel (outline, shoreline options, color, opacity, texture, etc). As you change the properties, you'll see the map change real-time.
Other World Mapper has a variety of “automatic” tools. For instance, the region tool can follow existing objects. Rivers can create deltas when connected to the edge of a landmass. Shorelines for landmasses, bodies of water, can be generated automatically. These “automatic” features can also be easily turned off when not wanted. Other World Mapper has default “themes,” or you can save your own “themes,” that set all the tools for a particular "map look."
Separate layer and opacity controls for each individual item. This and anti-aliasing allow for smooth blending of objects on the map (for instance physical regions) that you see real-time (not just when exporting the map).
Compared to some of the other tools, we will let you import any artwork you want to use with the program.

I hope this is a good summary. Let me know if you have more questions about specific areas/features!
Edit: I concentrated on features that are part of the current goal level. We have several stretch goals planned, but I didn't want to be confusing by talking about those features since they may not happen with the Kickstarter campaign.

Source (http://www.reddit.com/r/worldbuilding/comments/2j5se3/other_world_mapper_fantasy_map_design_software/).

And one more map that highlights the features of the program:

I'm hoping that they'll reach a lot of stretch goals before the KS ends.

Atlas Games have added over 20 new stretch goals in the final 3 days!

Not exactly sure whether this or Gaming (Other) is the right thread for it, but nevertheless it is something that I think should be shared:

So I know I mentioned it before, but the Feng Shui 2 Kickstarter (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/atlasgames/feng-shui-2-action-movie-roleplaying-game-by-robin) is in its final 30 hours! Back it now; the PDF is only $10, the stretch goals are awesome, and the core book looks to still be a steal for $50!

Hello everyone!

I'm Amanda from the Worldspinner team and I wanted to let you know a little bit about our project.

Have you ever created a campaign setting and world from scratch? It's a lot of fun but a lot of work, especially when it comes to committing your world to paper for your gaming group, and filling in all the details like city names.

Worldspinner is an online tool that helps authors, dungeon masters, and gamers to easily design a unique and vibrant world. Its also allows you to customize everything from the look of your world to the cultures, history, and people that inhabit it.

Worldspinner can then take your world and create high-quality maps in a different styles for your wall or your gaming table. You can find out more on our Kickstarter project page at
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/worldspinner/worldspinner-fantasy-rpg-worldbuilder-and-map-make?ref=nav_search

So take a peek and let me know if you have any questions.

This is a kickstarter that two of my friends are working on, and one I would be very excited to see succeed. It's called the Scarlet Oak Tavern (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2097477273/the-greatest-adventures-begin-in-a-tavern).

Basically, this is a tavern by gamers, for gamers. It's going to have a gaming library patrons can draw from, and provide a game friendly environment--along with food and alcohol. I've known these two for a while, and they've put a lot of thought and research into this. If any of you are in the Raleigh area, or just want to see projects like this succeed, they could really use your support.

Vow of Honor (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2111664817/vow-of-honor-rpg)

Ever wanted to embrace the tension that arises when playing a character committed to honor in a morally gray world? In Vow of Honor, you and your companions are tasked with saving a world that is spiraling into chaos:

The world of Sasara, your home, is broken and depraved. Despots rule over isolated city-states, indifferent to the suffering and squalor of the people. In the shadows of the enigmatic Ruins - the last vestiges of a prosperous era long forgotten - the vile terrorize the innocent few without fear of retribution. Until now.

You are an Arbiter, protector of all that is good in Sasara. Only as you embody the Tenets of Honor will you be empowered to protect the weak, avenge the victims of the wicked, and unlock the knowledge of the ancient Forebears to usher in a new age of peace. Will you take the Vow of Honor? Will you do what is necessary to save your home?

-From KS page

In addition to that dramatic premise, the PDF will be stunningly handsome:

This is a promising game from a promising designer (not me, I just helped do some editing). Check out the unique setting and fast, fluid system for yourself here (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2111664817/vow-of-honor-rpg). Of course, the choice is ultimately yours.

Edit: Also, the designer has been responding to questions on reddit here (http://www.reddit.com/r/rpg/comments/2l9zse/kickstarter_vow_of_honor_rpg_play_as_an_honor/).

DungeonMorphs Are Back! These mini-maps on 1" dice or cards join using corridors that match up on each side. (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/inkwellideas/dungeonmorphs-2-cities-and-villages-map-generator) Simply grab a few dice (or some cards) and roll them (or deal them) then line them up next to each other and you have an instant RPG map.

They were originally Kickstarted over 3 years ago with 2 dice sets of dungeon ("Adventurer" and "Explorer") and 1 dice set of cavern ("Spellunker") map designs. One deck of cards included the designs of all 3 sets. The new Kickstarter features city & village designs.

Initially one set of dice with both city & village maps is planned. but stretch goals allow for extra sets and other free add-ons.

Hi all! I'm kickstarting Legacy: Life Among the Ruins (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1549920133/legacy-life-among-the-ruins-world-rebuilding-rolep?ref=gitp), a game about the families that have survived a reality-twisting apocalypse, the characters that rise up as heroes from those families, and the struggles they face rebuilding the world in subsequent generations. Legacy combines the post-apocalyptic weirdness of Fallout, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and A Canticle for Leibowitz with the epoch-spanning gameplay of Civilisation or Alpha Centauri, giving each player control over a Family of survivors and the Character that the Family sends out into the wasteland to fix their problems. The system's based on Vincent Baker's Apocalypse World, with some pretty hefty modifications; if you're not sure if it's your cup of tea all backers get immediate access to the full rules text, which you can download with no strings attached. If you're interested, give it a look!

Spellcards for Pathfinder RPG!

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/748035782/spellcards-for-the-pathfinder-role-playing-game

The result of a personal project, I've created custom playing cards for all of the Core Rulebook spells (All 623 of em!) the nine metamagic feats, and a couple cards for tracking things like unprepared spell slots. These cards give you a physical system for tracking prepared spells, referencing spells for spontaneous casters, or a quick way to collect spells during GM prepwork. Get those laptops out from in front of your Casters so you can see their faces again!

You can read more about it on the kickstarter page, or my google sites site describing the cards:

Why don't you guys just use Roll20? That would certainly be less expensive.
