So, I had a peculiar idea recently involving an Oracle/Bard as a party support/healer character. Unfortunately there isn't any real synergy between the two classes aside from both using CHA, but I think we might be able to get this to work with the help of a certain magic item: The Banner of the Ancient Kings (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic-items/wondrous-items/wondrous-items/a-b/banner-of-the-ancient-kings).

Using the banner, if we take the Flagbearer feat and use Inspire Courage we grant our party a +2 Competence and +2 Morale bonus on attack and damage rolls, for a +4 total. Well... so what? A Bard alone can do that anyway, can't they?

Well, yes. However, we really only need one level of Bard to make this work. The rest can be Oracle, which can serve us better as a full caster. But wait - won't we have severely limited Bardic Performance then, with only 4+CHA rounds of performance per day? That's rather bad... but what about 4+CHA encounters worth of performance per day? With Harmonic Spell (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/harmonic-spell), we can maintain performance simply by casting a spell - any spell, which as an Oracle we have lots of. Buffs, heals, crowd control, you name it. And if we run low? Maintain Bardic Performance with Orisons! We can even take Lingering Performance to keep the bonuses up if we have to take an action other than cast.

So, Playground, do you think this is feasible?

Actually, Harmonic Spell was nerfed through errata. (http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/paizoPublishing/pathfinder/pathfinderRPG/rules/harmonicSpell) The SRD just hasn't updated the entry yet.

Okay, so... no maintaining performance through Orisons. However, it looks like it can still be maintained through other Oracle spells. Hmm... would have to be more strategic about using performance then, though it could still work.

It isn't a bad way to gain an extra buff and some other class features. Not to mention that Bards are very RP friendly characters, and they have some decent skills to compliment Oracle rather nicely. The combo is quite nice for just a single level dip.

unless I'm reading it wrong, you're only going to get a +1 bonus for Inspire Courage unless you dip 5 levels into bard. a +1 is still good for a single level, but it's all dependent on how much you're willing to dip.

Sidenote: Bard/Oracle/Mystic Theurge?

The Banner effectively gives a +1 bonus to Inspire Courage.

I'm not going MT because I would need 4 Bard levels instead of 1, and 3 lost Oracle levels is far too much.

Well, there's a decent conversion of the Fochlucan Lyrist (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=254082) going on right now.

You'd have to dip Druid for 1 level, but otherwise you can enter with 1 level of Bard and the rest as Oracle.
