The Streets of Cathedral – Issue 1, Grim Twilight

Panel 1

Just before dusk in the city of Cathedral. A small snack vendor at some type of concert venue selling lots of bottles of water to a bunch of thirsty patrons enjoying the live show in the late summer heat wave, everyone looks happy.

Panel 2

Another view of the crowd and snack stand, but the side entry to a back room can be seen , where a young man can be seen carrying a large black garbage bag.

Panel 3

The young man, now in the back room and a second man, take empty water bottles, just like those being handed out at the snack stand out front, from the trash bag and start filling them from the faucet, capping them and putting them on the shelf with many others.

Panels 4-8

Follows the pipes from the back room down below the stadium to a utility room, then down further and further into the underbelly of the city, a monolithic maze of corridors, pipes and sewers.

Panel 9

Close-up of a connection from the snack vendor faucet nearing the main line where a series of cracks are evident, here the piping runs along the ledge of an old sewer line. A strange green and brown mold with tendrils that seem to feel along the nearby stone grows on the cracked pipe and partially up the walls.

Panel 10

The mold’s tendrils attempt to snare a passing rat but miss the rat takes off running.

Panels 11-14

Follow the rat through the sewers, marking out a straight path of water flow, until the rat emerges from a street drain next to the Cathedral University’s Biology building.

Panel 15

A different view of the University campus, from far below in the Hallows, near a dark alleyway. A couple moves along the street lost in their conversation. The old world charm of the ancient buildings gives the scene an almost romanticized sense.

Panel 16

Another view of the couple from a distance, moving along the street. In the foreground a raised street grate, held at an angle by something from below but the grate blocks our view of it.

Panel 17

A close up of the woman screaming in terror. Some type of droplets fly across the scene.

Panel 18

Shows only the street grate, slightly displaced from resting properly in the road, a single shoe lies on its side nearby in a dark puddle.

Panel 19

A roof top view of the tight streets and close knit buildings of the Hallows. A shadow casts from off the scene shows a mostly human form, though hunched with a large arcing tail. High in the sky another humanoid form can be seen. This one is clad in a bright coma of yellowish light like a living comet streaking across the Catherdal sky.

Panels 20-22

Follow the glowing flying form out over the city and into the high class neighborhood of the Estates until it drops towards a balcony on a large mansion.

Panels 23

As the figure closes on the balcony it turns upright to land walking as the aura appears to almost slough off revealing a slender form in tight fitting dark clothing.

Panel 24

The figure remains turned away moving into the house, turning on the TV mounted on the wall across the room.

Panel 25

The TV shows the evening news. A reporter is coming live from a scene at what looks like some type of industrial complex. The caption under the reporter reads “12 found dead in strange ritualistic killing.

Panel 26

Close-up of the inset on the TV news showing a large concrete room where 12 body bags are arranged in a circle set amongst what appears to be a collection of strange symbols.

Panel 27

Shows another view of the scene of the industrial building, complete with bodies and strange symbols. Dozens of officers, a forensics teams and several plain clothes mean and women work the scene. One officer stands apart from the rest near a side door that sits slightly ajar.

Panel 28

The same officer now outside the door moving down the alleyway away from the rest. Turning a corner the officer breaks into a jog.

Panel 29

The officer now leaning against a stone wall in an alleyway smoking something shields his eyes from the spotlight of a passing helicopter overhead.

Panel 30

The helicopter circles the scene filming the police below.

Panel 31

The scene of the police cars, flashing lights and the industrial complex are now revealed to be another television in a dimly light room next to a mirror, the time on the TV says 7 pm. Seen in the mirror is the mask and costume of a strange looking individual. A man dressed in a green and gray costume complete with twisted mask to look like some kind of a mythological monster like a goblin.

Panel 32

A close up of the strange mask, dark bloodshot eyes behind the mask reveal a mind as twisted as the visage it wears. A tag line at the bottom of the panel reads, “Cathedral isn’t ready for the Gremlin, but no matter in 13 hours they will pay for their arrogance.”

Panel 33

A hand setting down the twisted mask on top of a pile of homemade bombs and what looks like a collection of store fliers, like those found in malls.

Panel 34

Somewhere else in the city…

It is just after 7 PM Friday night Sept 23rd 2012. The sun has set and a cool breeze is blowing in from the ocean. Clouds have been rolling in steadily all day threatening rain but currently the nearly full moon can still be spotted slipping between the clouds on occasion.

Start with a description of where your character is and what he or she is doing.

Jessica, currently in a protective, scanning form, walks the streets in a hoodie and jeans, a bandana over her head and a simple change in pigmentation from her hardened skin hiding her real appearance. Currently near a park, she takes a moment to drink from her water bottle and rest her feat a little before moving on once more. She had to meet up with Aiden soon. The entire time she was listening to music through her radio sense, something she had formed a habit of doing when on patrol.

The roar of the engine fills Aidan's ears as he rolls down the street on his motorcycle, hoping that Mrs. Anders realizes this time not to download everything you see. That's what, the fifth time I got called out to get viruses off her computer? he thinks to himself as he rides along, a quick glance at his watch showing him the time. Cursing mentally, he thinks, I'm supposed to be meeting with Jess soon... I'd better hurry. Don't want to be late, after all. He turns quickly down a street, going to meet his friend and partner.

Mutt looked down into the Hallows from the high-peaked roof a a decrepit old church, the moss that stuck to the rotting shingles soft under his paws. Checking the evening breeze for any odd(or delicious) smells was an old habit that re-exerted itself now. With a sneeze, the super-dog of Cathedral city turned away disappointed, and gave an annoyed howl at the moon. After all, without trouble of some kind how was he supposed to earn that gyro down at The Greasy Spoon? It was Antonio's turn to feed him, and his food was good enough to be worth barreling over some gunmen, or perhaps gnawing on some drug dealer's leg a little. Well... Gumming, really. Apparently, Argos the Superdog wasn't supposed to gnaw very hard on people.

Still, sitting and howling wasn't going to do him any good. If he was going to catch some bad guys, he'd have to go looking for them. Getting up and shaking loose the bright green vest(emblazoned with a big red "A") that served as his superhero costume, Mutt trotted to the edge of the building, then bounded easily across the four-lane gap to a run down apartment complex. Hopping buildings had been a little scary at first, but now it was just the easiest way to get around town. Besides, it was kinda fun to pounce down on unsuspecting evildoers. He could see why cats liked it. So, Argos took off wandering with no real destination in mind, looking to clear the city of as many criminals as he could.

"Ladies, ladies, ladies! Fear not the shades of disappointment and frustration, Captain Bullet is here, to relieve that tension and put you in touch with your spiritual side!"

Captain Bullet walked into the night club, having slipped the doorman a bill to get through. He was probably drowned out by the music. He walks up to any girl that looks to be on her own (targetting any girl who might on the 'less pretty' side, obviously because he's a jack@ss).

"Hey, I'm Captain Bullet. What do you call yourself?"
