View Full Version : Simple Question: 2 handed damage score

I can't believe this never came up in any of my campaigns...

We've got a character with a STR score of 0. He's going to use a battle axe to break a chain, because he's the only one unbound to do so. The Hardness on a Chain is 10.

If he lines up the shot and hits the chain, the best he can do is 8 HP. So he wants to wield the axe in both hands.

But his STR bonus is 0. So... 0 x 1.5 = 0.

Wha-? :smallconfused:

I mean... he can't break the chain no matter what, but still, it got us asking. What if his STR bonus was a -2 penalty? That would give him a -3 to damage when wielding a weapon in two hands. That doesn't make any sense. Is there a minimum +1 damage bonus rule or something? Or is that something the DM is supposed to just call BS on?

-2 is not a bonus, but a penalty, and wouldn't be multiplied.

If his strength score is 0 he wouldn't be able to move at all. Do you mean his modifier is 0? If so Flickerdart's response is good. There is also no minimum +1 damage rule.

Okay, thanks.

Yes, I meant str bonus. Sorry, I'm dealing with a bunch of distractions right now.

Thanks for the help.
