Counterspelling and AMF thought late at night

This is just an odd thought that I had but would counterspelling a casting of AMF work or are the waters muddied due to how AMF disallows the working of magic?

I'd assume that it would work but I'm curious as to how this would be ruled.

Counterspelling an Antimagic Field would infact work. To counterspell, you are casting the same, or a similar spell (or dispel magic) AS THEY CAST ANTIMAGIC FIELD. By counterspelling, you stop the spell from going off successfully.

So, order of operations:

Caster #1: I am casting Antimagic Field!
Caster #2: I am counterspelling with Dispel Magic or Antimagic Field!
Result: Antimagic field is never cast, but is stopped mid-casting by a counterspell.

I agree with the above 100%. Counterspelling precedes the magic of the spell ever actually coming into being so the magic's nature of mucking up magic doesnt come into play at all.
