I know there are a ton of music threads on this forum (which is awesome). But most of them have been either epic (see all the posts about Two Steps from Hell) or scary (Midnight Syndicate rules here). I'm looking for something playful but still could be used as the background for a battle scene to use in an upcoming pathfinder campaign during a fight against fey (quicklings if you're curious). I would provide an example of what I'm looking for, but I'm not sure if I know myself. Any direction you guys could point me in would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I'm gonna vote for the Calbrena music from Final Fantasy 2/4/II/IV/The one with Cecil

I'd say that the Mad Jack boss music from Donkey Kong 64 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9Pc3Ihn2oA) would be perfect for its mix of whimsy and menace.

Off topic, I miss when Rareware was awesome :( I just wish Microsoft would sell all of Rare's properties to Nintendo, since they've gutted what remains of Rare's original staff and Nintendo would probably get more use out of/sell more copies of Rare's trademark whimsical games than Microsoft (Whose main demographic is whimsy-hating fratboys and 14-year-old Halo players who think platformers are GHEY!)

When I think of Fae, I usually remember thise two (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjlK07MduzI&feature=relmfu) pieces (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHyTufTJ2r4). Elfman in general has created many memorable themes - this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZktSPrGSck) might even work (if so, then you can follow up with this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1x8HDTYvJM&feature=relmfu)).

Something (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPaz0p2dpEk) more (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rBOSf4n9fs) playful (www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2hCRAE6U0Q&feature=related). There are also pieces like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RsmCkuLu0d8).

Have you decided on soundtrack for other situations in your campaign? It would be easier to search for something fitting.

Perhaps some Andean music with panflutes?

Condorcanqui (http://youtu.be/HlGm7CaHODg) is more happy, "Susurro" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clIfpTr21HY) a bit sadder.

The 'Legend' soundtrack by Tangerine Dream has some good ones, particularly 'the dance' and 'darkness.' Of course, it's not exactly coincidence, since the movie is actually about faeries fighting the devil, lol.

I was scrolling past when I spotted "music for a battle with fae", and immediately and unbidden my mind went straight to Irish (and maybe Traveller/Gypsy) folkmusic, particularly really lively fiddles and the like.

Shadows-Lindsey Stirling (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGCsyshUU-A)

I've always had a thing for this girl's music and while it certainly has some anachronistic qualities to it it is still playful but could be fun to fight to.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, keep them coming.

The choral music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnIUVHtLC08) from Coraline could fit. This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXJQJJoJLas)piece stands out to me.

And now for something completly different:
Klezmafour (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXVLiG1t1MA&feature=relmfu) (this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXyjGSSK_p8&feature=related) piece is worth checking as well),
Riverdance (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00XRy5JyJFQ) (seriously (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wPixqsZtMs)!),
bagpipe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVd_0-SXGBs&feature=related) music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktPpgwgTA1E&feature=relmfu).

Something slightly more akin to Lindsay Stirling's piece linked above would be Mythos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6CeR8tdmXs).

I second Radar's statement about Danny Elfman. He's good if you've got mischievous undead creatures as well, especially with Corpse Bride. Pretty much all of his work with Tim Burton could be used quite well, as it's lively, but in some ways, pretty creepy.

Another one you might consider is Voltaire. Can't get that damned "Brains" song out of my head for the life of me.

Here you go: Fai's Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6U1MuQ8eX8&feature=related) from Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles.

Worked well for us. :D

The One Who Spins Samsara (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nvelCV1wuE) if you're going for a more haunting 'alien ways' fae.

You're welcome.

There are also bands like Faun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2mAEr0Ggb0&feature=related) or Percival (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYJPSgCYicE&feature=related).

Loreena (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=js-cKpZydfE&feature=related) McKennit (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X19dekhKsaU&feature=related) might be too serene for a fight scene, but she is worth listening to anyway.

Pan's Labyrinth soundtrack might have something useful. It's not an action movie, but

"Book of Blood" (http://youtu.be/NGByiavgwi4)
"Guerilleros" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhjkH1h-H_g)
Deep Forest (http://youtu.be/et7-RnRHOmc)
Pan and the Full Moon (http://youtu.be/2e6BXLdycnw)

The soundtrack from Village or other movies with a mystical, supernatural and/or horror theme might also fit:

Every fae battle I run includes the songs, "Seven Seas of Rhye" and "Ogre Battle", by Queen.

Speaking of Queen, you should do "Great King Rat" as the boss theme.

Try the new Tim Burton version of "Alice in Wonderland." It did wonders for me all throughout the Kingmaker campaign.

How about Shadows (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&v=JGCsyshUU-A&NR=1) by Lindsey Stirling?

EDIT: Or this Painis Cupcake (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oXKMANNoTM&feature=g-all-lik) theme.

Anything from Touhou, really.

Took the words right our of my mouth. In particular, I'd recommend these (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-wN34ksUHc) two (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTDNKCvvtgA). Fittingly enough, they're from Fairy Wars. The stage themes from that are worth checking out, too, more for ambient music than an actual fight.
