This here is a compilation of links and descriptions of every homebrew martial discipline that's out there. I thought this might come in useful for other people who are homebrewing martial adepts. Originally posted on minmaxboards here (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=6265.0).

If you find (or write) a homebrew discipline that I've missed, please leave a link! Incomplete disciplines are marked in purple. If you find that one of the unmarked disciplines is incomplete, or that an incomplete discipline is finished, please let me know and I'll update.

Many thanks to Garryl and especially Morph Bark for large amounts of links.

An incredibly useful resource, so props for that.

Also, seeing my disciplines in the list gives me warm fuzzy feelings I am not sure how to process. So, uh, thanks I guess? :smalltongue:

Also, I'm not really sure how this (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=240489) should go in there, but I think it should; probably just a link at the bottom with the other additions to published disciplines.

I don't think you should list the disciplines meant only for Xefas' Primordialist class.

I have a lot of disciplines on here which were written for a specific class. The whole point is to have every single one. It's up to the homebrewer to evaluate the appropriateness of what they want to use.

Minor updates:

1) I've marked EvilVegan's two disciplines purple, as the maneuver writeups seem to have disappeared into the internet void... if anyone finds them, let me know!

2) I've also updated the links for Nifft's disciplines, as someone over at minmaxboards ported them & gave each its own post, so that the maneuver lists & descriptions were close together.

The maneuver write-ups are actually in there, they're just a part of the maneuver name listing instead of being seperate. Some small details may have been lost due to this, but initiation time, target and some others are always the same or otherwise easy to deduce.

Martial domains (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=252182) are, obviously, domains that grant martial manoeuvers.

Updated Twin Soul with a key skill; added all 4 Warcrafter disciplines.

The number of key skills with no discipline is rapidly shrinking. I'll be writing a psionic version of Impromptu Virge (with dorjes and psicrowns), which will cover UPD; then, there's an Iaijutsu Focus discipline in the works somewhere, and I know Drammor is working on a Speak Language discipline.

We're left with Climb and Open Lock. Get on it, everyone! :D

First, I thought I'd say this is quite useful. One request though if it isn't too much trouble would be adding a column to note if the discipline is extraordinary, supernatural, spell-like, or psi-like (or possibly mixed) to allow one to easily look for disciplines of said categories (or avoid them depending).

Edit: Also found this (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=7268.msg115007#msg115007) incomplete one.

As for climb and open lock, while I don't really make disciplines myself, possible themes for them would be 'grappling' opponents much larger than one's self (for climb), and a "My sword is the key to your heart. Your rib cage, the door. Allow me to open it for you." type mindset (for open lock). Alternatively open lock could just be some form of teleportation spamming discipline as they 'unlock' portals between various points.

Thanks for including my disciplines. I feel I should point out, though, that Maula Kae (which was Monkey Paw before it had that name) became Giant's Grip when I wrote Tome of Tactics. It evolved a little bit after that, but they probably shouldn't be listed as separate disciplines.

I have on occassion added martial disciplines to the Homebrew Tier Compendium's list that you may not yet have, but you'd have to dig through the list and see what doesn't look familiar. (It would be a bit too double-worky for me, and as of now I'm sadly too busy for the while to dig through it all again and look for more.) I know the Machinist class by jiriku might not have its disciplines up here yet? I have also yet to copy over your more recent additions that I may not yet have myself, but I will do that when I begin to actually go through them to grade them.

Also knowledge (dungeneering or geography), and various crafts and professions, though maybe those don't count. I'm proud to be the one who filled in search. I have some ideas for climb. All I can think of for open lock is the opening of neverwhere, which is both overpowered and more nightmare fuel than I like in my games.

Unrelated: has all of Age of Warriors been assimilated here?

Also, Vile Shaft ( http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=14367412&postcount=429) for evil archers.

There is Xefas' discipline, but it's unfinished. If we don't count unfinished disciplines, there's prolly some more skills that still could see some use. Plus those unused Knowledge skills, and perhaps the few useful Craft and Profession skills, such as Profession (siege engineer), Profession (sailor) or Profession (cook). And why isn't there one yet based on Craft (poison)? Or Craft (weaponsmithing)/(armorsmithing)?

Profession Siege Engineer....

You know, a catapult discipline could be interesting. Rapid reload. One-man crew. Have your ammo land in a line, or hit an area. Flaming shots. Ignore hardness. Collapse structures with pin-point precision.

I think I'll try it later.

That's a 3.0 skill...

So? It's actually a function of CL checks anyway, which I checked. Darn.

Oh, well, it might work if I was deciding to be silly.

I mean, having "ranks" in it would end up just giving you the ability to detect, reverse, or negate scrying. And a discipline about moving around your sight would be kinda interesting (you ever play one of those puzzle-platformers where the playing field shifts based on what angle you look at it?)

Other fun skills that I don't think have been used are... well, there's only Handle Humanoid. And I don't think I'm going to do that one...

SirPercival, a page or so back I linked the Prestige Class I had created and the school that went with it. I have been playtesting both a little in the last few days and they have been good. If you wanted to add it I believe I linked it on the top of page 2 maybe?

Is there a particular skill that needs to be done? I would totally be willing to take a crack at something. Which skills don't have a representative school?

Can't... Stay... Away...

Open Defenses
Open Way Strike
Level: 1
Action: Standard

You pick apart your enemy's ability to parry and dodge as if they were an inefficient lock. Make an Open Lock check opposed by your target's AC. If yours is higher, your target becomes flat-footed until the start of your next turn.

Open Veins
Open Way Strike
Level: 3
Action: Standard

You find the most efficient route for your enemy's blood to leave his body. Make an attack with a slashing or piercing weapon. If it succeeds, your enemy continues to take half that much damage on your turn every successive round until he receives magical healing.

Open Stomach
Open Way Strike
Level: 4
Action: Standard
Target: A creature that has creatures in its stomach by a swallow whole attack

Make an Open Lock check opposed by the target's AC. If yours is higher, all swallowed creatures may go free. You can use this either inside or outside of the creature.

Open Ribs
Open Way Strike
Level: 8
Prerequisites: 2 Open Way maneuvers
Action: Standard

You find your way through your enemy's ribs and gently remove its heart. Make an Open Lock check at a -10 penalty opposed by the target's AC. If yours is higher, the creature dies. This only works on creatures with rib cages and hearts. This is a supernatural maneuver.

Open Mind
Open Way Strike
Level: 9
Prerequisites: 4 Open Way maneuvers
Action: Standard

You find your way through your enemy's psychological defenses. Make an Open Lock check opposed by the target's bluff check, concentration check or will save (his choice). If yours is higher, you may alter its beliefs, values and loyalties however you wish. You cannot give it knowledge or skills that you do not possess. This is a supernatural maneuver.

Ok. So I through this together. Not my best work, but figured it might be a decent starting point. Let me know what you think.

Crashing Avalanche

The discipline of the Crashing Avalance was created by the Goliath warrior, Aukaun Longleaper Katho. Aukaun was the last survivor of his tribe. Fleeing into the highest reaches of the mountains to evade the trolls that had fallen upon his village, Aukaun found his way to a cave. Within the cave were the unfinished writings of an unknown Martial Adept. They described a style that the adept had been working on when he died. Based on the use of the Mountain itself as a weapon. Aukaun took these writings. He meditated and watched the animals on the slopes. The way the goats moved, the way the eagles soared, all of these things led Aukaun to his magnum opus. It took a year for him to complete his work, and when he did, he brought it down the mountain to seek vengeance on the trolls below. None withstood the brutality of his assault. .

1st Level:

Battering of the Ram (Strike): You may charge over any terrain without penalty. At the end of the charge you may make a single attack which deals double damage.

I do play with Xefas styles quite a bit. Mostly with Relentless Dusk and the Malfeasant Heart. The former all but demands to be the tankiest tank that ever tanked, while he can be a solo enemy that AC is all but unbeatable and with unavoidable damage he doesn't do a terrible amount unless he's suitably cheesed. Still a fun way to force the players to find way other then beating at it's AC.:smallwink:

The Malfeasant Heart is brutally straight forward and tends to be a Hit Hard and Die Hard enemy for the party. Fights against him don't last more then 4 rounds and absolute brain scrambling luck. He either kills a player character or two and dies or just dies.

I have the BBEG be a major user of the Cosmic Imperator discipline because it's sheer story potential. Sadly I've yet to unleash him as of now.:smallfrown:

The problem is that the best part of the table was its sortability, which won't work if I remake it in Morph's style. I have an idea, though, and I'll see if it works.

Recently created a discipline that was based around fantasy depictions of the Fae in general, main purpose was to allow players and dm the ability to have fun with maneuvers that have interesting status effects that are either normally not used because of a hd limit or normally restricted by creature types they can affect. The mechanics themselves are for the most part complete aside from still being play tested in my group and possibly needing some critiquing on formatting with syntax; background, history, and maneuver description fluff is still a WIP.

Winter's Edge (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?516154-Winter-s-Edge-(A-new-Tome-of-Battle-Discipline-rate-and-critique-please-)) The Discipline created by several Fey of the Unseelie Court, It's associated class skill is Knowledge (Nature), Favored Weapons are Unarmed Strike, Natural Attacks, Daggers, Short Swords, and Rapiers, and it replaces the Diamond Mind Discipline for Swordsage and Warblades

Okay, can anyone point towards any sort of guide to making Disciplines? Because finding the numbers of various things that are "recommended" is difficult. Even just a link to a place where they list the number of Boosts, Counters, Strikes and Stances on a level-by-level basis would be helpful. Because I have ideas for quite a few Disciplines. Most intended to drag classes up to t2 by way of replicating high-tier effects within one area. I've heard that diplomancy is particularly strong, in a lot of cases, as are save-or-suck abilities. Generally, stuff that can tie into the social skills can be justified to do a lot of nasty things.

Edit: Basically, I'm planning on making a hypermundane Bard that uses Maneuvers as it's excuse for crazy ****.

Edit 2: At a glance of the PFSRD, I'm thinking that having one of each type of Maneuver at first level Maneuvers, then having at least three Maneuvers of each level past that, followed by two First Level stances, then one Stance every other level will work out somewhat well. My thinking is to have exactly enough to have all your Maneuvers and Stances be of the same school, without a single gap or leftover Maneuver at any point. Which, according to Warder's minimum, is a total of 16 Maneuvers and 7 Stances, although Stalker has 21 Maneuvers. I really ought to involve Rushes, just to give something useful for the Move Actions. Or I could have the recovery attached to move actions...

From there, my plan is to make three or four Disciplines, each focused on a different social skill from Diplomacy, Intimidate, Bluff and possibly Sense Motive, with the overall goal being to have each Discipline having a sufficiently different focus taken far enough that you can be justified having a character with nothing but one Discipline.

For the Disciplines proper, Diplomacy will probably be the most "Bard" of the Disciplines, getting Charm and buff effects, possibly having Teamwork feat sharing involved.

Intimidate will likely be Fear and Will save-or-suck effects, possibly with one of each type of Maneuver for direct, personal combat starting with a Strike at first level.

Bluff will probably be Feint and Sneak Attack as a set of Maneuvers. Multiple ways to cost enemies their Dex to AC and effects reliant on them being in that state.

If I do Sense Motive, it simply will be a Tank Discipline. Deflection and Dodge bonuses aplenty, with Maneuvers to prevent allies from taking damage

Is this appropriate to the thread? Probably not, but there aren't many threads focused on brainstorming particular types of homebrew.

Okay, can anyone point towards any sort of guide to making Disciplines?

In 3.5 or Pathfinder? The former has no stratified standard for discipline design, though there are certain traditional elements such as having only one 9th-level maneuver, and intuitive things like not having dead levels.

Pathfinder, on the other hand... from a quick look, they seem a bit more dense, but that's okay. The handful I looked at all had exactly six stances, though: two at 1st-level, and four spread roughly evenly from 3rd~8th levels. Also the traditional capstone maneuver seems to be in full swing, so that's nice too.

Besides not having more high-level maneuvers than low-level ones, I can't really think of where to point you. Sorry!

My advice would be to go for some clear fluff next: for instance, how does Sense Motive translate into being a tank? Are you a canny duelist, casually parrying strikes and redirecting them harmlessly, moving with impunity to impede foes, stopping only to laugh as you drive them to impact one-another instead of your allies? Are you a steely-eyed juggernaut, whose gaze captures every movement so perfectly that, even slowed by your armor, you intercept your foes with efficient grace? Or are you some more mystical force, like the judging angel whose castigation deprives foes of their will to do harm, or the illusion-piercing ninja master, himself so at one with the ethereal plane that with a wave of his hand, his allies find themselves transposed from harm's way?

We really should move this to another thread, though. I look forward to your creations!

Well, the intent is a hypermundane Bard type of character, so it's the sublime duelist fluff. Bluff is mostly for the offensive side of that. Another one of my ideas was to have it instrument based, but that requires heavy specializing, because you can usually only use one instrument at a time.

Although having the instrument based Disciplines occupy one "slot" as a set of interchangeable Disciplines would work well. Actually, given what Pathfinder's archetypes do, one could have two or three of these hypermundane classes, then swap Disciplines between them alongside needed "tie together" abilities, like a Deflection AC ability to properly use the Sense Motive based Discipline, because having your stance locked down is quite bad.

And it's going to be for the Pathfinder version, as Path of War is less difficult to figure out the tables for than Tome of Battle. Really doesn't help that most of the tables for ToB classes on this site are broken...

As for my current creations, I've got one that is a pile of Incarnum feats in-progress of being made. The overall intent is to have every character have a good reason to grab two or three Incarnum feats as a slippery slope of scaling feats. It includes codified blue-synonym to ability group relation, like Beryl being for Druid-Incarnum feats and Sapphire for Cleric-Incarnum feats. As well as Cobalt for defensive abilities and Cerulean for Martials. I gave Azure to Psionics, as well, while the thousand-and-one random Supernatural things will be Turquise.

For other stuff that's actually posted, check the link in my signature. It has several largely abandoned ideas and a link to a compilation thread with most of my stuff on the linked post.

All discipline from Minmax Boards don't work, but they did move...
