This is a DOS game from 1990 by EA and it has some serious character to it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_dHJyb6D94&feature=plcp

The game is pretty hilarious, but the best part is the music. Sadly some of it was lost in the recording, but there is a link to the music in the description of the video.

If you like this, you might find something on our channel as well: http://www.youtube.com/user/SoWhatSlackers/feed

(This is not an LP series but just a one-off look at the game)

I played this one - way back when I was seven years old. I played that game up and down every time I visited my grandparents, eventually to achieve highscores. Hell, I think I might remember the ultra secret maximum points route through Downhill Blitz (I can still name the individual stages by heart, I think!). And you're totally right, it was absolutely hilarious. And you're also right about the music. I can still hum it.

What's kind of amazing about the entire thing is that I live in Germany. I played the game before I even knew English. Some of my earliest English I learnt probably was from this game. I'm guessing my grandparents bought it from someone who ordered it out of the US, or imported US PC games to play on it. There were a bunch of other deliciously old games, too. One was this really obvious Mario clone (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdGMqNfItBI).

... I think the machine is still sitting around somewhere. I should make sure it doesn't get thrown away. It's a 286 that genuinely had a 5 1/2 inch floppy drive (along with the 3.5 inch one). There even was a menu system made of batch files on it that I expanded; I learnt to make batch files that way.
