Well, I've been meaning to do this for a while and here we are.

The Previous Random Banter can be found here:
Dimonite's Decidedly Draconic Devious Discussions: Random Banter #181 (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=254409)

The Not-So-Random Rules of Random Banter:
1. Spam. For the purposes of RB, one word posts are generally considered spam. Likewise, posts that are nothing but *actions like this* are also be considered spam. Remember that the quality of the post's content is much better than the speed of your response.

2. This isn't the Play by Post or Town forum, nor is it the Silly Message Board Games or Structured Games forum. Please avoid continuous roleplay or mock battles and fights such as the "competition for control of the universe".

3. If it's already a thread, don't bring it to RB. RB has such a huge range of subject matter even restricted to the little snippets that probably don't warrant their own thread, it doesn't need legitimate thread topics cluttering it up as well. The exception to this is to bring something that is off-topic from one thread, but on-topic for RB and the subject doesn't warrant a thread of its own.

4. Don't advertise other threads in RB. Just because these new threads move at speeds more appropriate to a message board than an IM session doesn't mean you need to come over to RB and brow beat people into posting in your latest brainchild.

5. Please don't post single line posts alerting us to your current status -- as in "I'm back." This is Random Banter, not "How to stalk Random GitP forum members."

6. Don't poke, kick or bump the thread. It will move at whatever pace it wants to. Also, please refrain from Captain Obvious comments akin to "My, the thread is fast today."

7. Random Banter can only be as good, or as entertaining, as you make it. Demands to be entertained will fall on deaf ears unless you can add something more meaningful to the conversation.

8. As this is a public forum, where the current topic is nicely recorded for you, and not a conversation where you could have missed the beginning, please refrain from asking something to the effect of "What's the topic?". Please take the time to read up a bit first.

9. Thread Creator must include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread #. Try to be concise as well.

10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences, Subject and Predicate. C'mon, make your old English teachers proud.

11. Remember, Random Banter is not your IM client. If you want to have a back and forth discussion with just one person, look in their contact information for IM details.

12. Whenever a new thread is created, all "first post", "first page", and all posts of that nature will be deleted by the administrators. Please avoid doing this, as it is frustrating for them to deal with one-lined posts like this.

13. Double-posting is not your friend. We have edit buttons for a reason.

14. Once you have made a Random Banter thread, you must wait 50 threads before making another one.

15. If you can avoid dibs calling on making the next thread, that will avoid people needing to wait if the thread hits 50 pages while the dibs-caller is asleep.

Yep. Was trying to edit it beforehand, but Cloudflare wasn't delivering the site so I had to wait.

As regards the bug, assuming you have no reason to believe it harmful and/or endangered, I'd say to just swat it with something and clean up. Much as it may sound callous, the few that you might kill should be far less than the reproductive rate of any insectoid species...

Reposted from last thread, because I somehow always manage to miss the new one. By two hours. I'm a slow writer at times... :smallsigh:

Pie crust... crumbly? What?

I've never had a savory pie crust that was crumbly. What kind of pies have they been feeding you???

Perhaps it was smulpaj (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smulpaj) (or not, because smulpaj is delicious and certainly not made with choclate).

That version is actually quite relaxing. But this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMmMNyTwePY) is far more relaxing.

60 bpm is too high for my resting pulse. I just end up feeling more stressed by it. That said, messuring my own pulse is a bit tricky, because feeling my own pulse stresses me as well for some obscure reason, causing a higher pulse, and more stress. :smallsigh:

ION:
Got too little sleep, lost track of time and realised that I'd be late for school. We've been caught in a freaking tropical storm as well (moderate wind, mostly rain), so I didn't feel like going, and determined from the course webpage that the lab we'd have today (automata theory) seemed easy enough to do on my own later. I actually tried downloading the source code for the software that we're supposed use and compiling it on my own, but after failing to include one header file despite giving the correct search path, missing another entirely, having to install the third set of third-party software and getting a string that's too long for the system to handle (over 65025 characters of auto-generated code), I just gave up and removed all traces of my efforts.

That said, I still managed to get quite far in installing something intended for a UNIX machine on a Windows computer, so I bear my failure with pride nevertheless.

Guys, stop telling me I'll be ok. I know I'm going to be fine, that doesn't stop me worrying about a big vague mess of undefined potential crises

I guess so. The advent of timeline has made one of the best lines in that song obsolete, but I guess some people might still get a kick out of it. I'm glad to hear it made you smile, anyhow.

On a related note, people who frequent coffee shops, what kind of songs do you like to hear?

My ideal coffee shop music would be ambient, like Starfade (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1odDG6boUg). Maybe some soft electro, such as mind.in.a.box (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2xAxZ7miYU&feature=relmfu) or the lighter side of VNV Nation (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kfc3zcnrWMQ). Yeah, that's kind of the gist of it. It apparently made an amazing job evading the entirety of North America, and decided that it'd be a nice idea to go over and harass some Scandinavians instead for a change of pace. It's currently strong squalls and overcast, but no rain and and the clouds are fairly thin.

Yeah, but since you started off by disbelieving the whole concept of a crumbly crust, I'd already gotten the idea. And since LaLa didn't specify if it was savoury or not (until afterwards), I still felt it was appropriate, given that the name literally translates to "crumb pie".

It actually took me a couple of minutes to parse that (did you do that on purpose?)

The thing is, "would of" is wrong even in spoken language. "Would've" is fine, but as soon as the "-ve" turns into "of", it loses grammatical sense.

Actually, technically, based on the accepted pronunciation of the word of and the contraction would've... When someone thinks they're saying "would of", they're actually saying "would've", but with more emphasis on the 've.

Okay... We're talking about grammar... How did that comma end up in the middle of a word? Don't blame it on fast typing, because I type fast and can remember to check things as I go.

It was fast typing. I type so fast regularly that I hit two keys at the same time and reverse them. My two most common mistakes are "aobut", "becuase" and "aweomse", because of their letters' placing on the keyboard. I tend to go back and correct everything afterwards, because if I stopped to fix everything immediately, I'd take five minutes to type out once sentence. And sometime,s I don't catch everything. Or I might be in a rush, and post it without fixing it i I think there's not too many errors.

Okay, when I first wrote that out, about a quarter of the words were wrong in some way. If you'd like, fee me a sufficiently long sentence, and I'll post it without me correcting any of my mistakes.

The craziest thing happened today, y'all. After class, I had dinner and went out for ice cream with my friend, as is my habit. While we were at the ice cream shop, enjoying our purchased treats, I look up and see this dude starin' me down. I don't think much of it, so I go back to talking with my chum, then look back up to see if the guy is still staring at me. He is. Then he says, "Is there a problem?" And I'm like, "Uh, no?" And he's like, "Quit staring at me." And I'm like, "I'm sorry, I didn't know I was staring at you." Then he tries to pick a fight, I apologize again and he storms out of the ice cream shop in anger. His friends that were at the table with him breathe a collective sigh of relief and one girl said, "Thank God."

It really upset me. I never would have intentionally done anything to make that dude angry. Of course, there's a pretty substantial chance that he was high or something. Anyhow, the moral of the story is don't make eye contact with any of them S.O.B.'s at ice cream parlours.

Stay With Me (I think that was the name) was on the tv. I missed the beginning, but I'm pretty sure I caught up on it in terms of clarification/confusion anyway. The story was inherently sad and hopeless, but the intentional confusion kept me watching despite the fact that I'm not especially fond of sad movies.

And of course it had a sad ending. Just great, it's almost 2 in the morning, but my brain is still busy trying to process it. This is why I don't like sad movies: they mean no sleep for the weary.

I could always come over sometime Ele, green is my favourite colour so I'm sure I could pick you a nice one out for whoever it's for.

It's not for anyone. (Seriously? Can't I practice?) . And I did eventually manage to get a colour going.
Still, you should visit!

You know Elemental ;____;

Ele is my best friend of seven years, haha. Used to live with him too, only moved out about four months ago or so? /shrugs Note to self: visit him more. He misses me. :smallfrown:

Is he as nice in person as he is on the forum?

/chuckles Yes, he is. He's a great person. He and I have never had a single fight in all the time we've known each other. And he and I can keep a conversation going for quite a while, which I can't do with anyone else.

That doesn't surprise me. He has been kind to this bird too

Stop stroking my ego! Also, thanks for saying such nice things about me.
And note: We do fight! The door still has the mark my watch left on it!
But then... They're not real fights...
Also... Visit me more often! I'm so alone and bored!

On another note: An ex essentially asked me on a date. This ex is actually a nice guy, and the reason why I broke up with him, well.. I'm pretty sure it can't be said on the forum, or at the least, in a thread. :smallfrown: Ele knows why I broke up with him, but that was only 'cause I asked his advice on the matter. It's also hard to decide if I want to go on this date, because this ex is quite liberal with spending his money on me.. For example, the first time he and I met (and spent the day together), he bought me a new phone, credit, lunch, movies, smokes, and a few other things I think.. And I didn't ask for any of it, all his idea! Help? :smalleek:

Is that who I think it is? Actually, I can't really remember who it was. You'll have to PM me about it if you want my advice.

I'm hungry but have good music, so that's fine.

I'm sad today, though. The first large orienteering meet was cancelled (for us) last minute, so clearly I have nothing to do now. Still woke up early, but for something different that also ended up not happening. I was looking forward to one thing, which didn't happen, and then another thing, which also didn't happen. Alas...
So nothing to do today. I guess I'll get up and eat now, and continue to listen to good music later. Such is life.~

Now, this is the story all about how
My life got flipped, turned upside down
And I'd like to take a minute, just sit right there
And I'll tell you all the story of how I got really ticked off at work last week.

So I've been at my job for four years. Four. Seriously, nearly about four and a half now. Longest I've ever held a job. Last June, I finally got the promotion into entry level management (Third Key, SGA) and was able to quit the other job I'd had.

Now, after a year and a half nearly of being in this position, our government has decided that if I work more than 25 hours a week consecutively (because I'm technically still a part time employee) I am supposed to receive benefits. Sure, no big deal, whatever. I'd waive them anyways, I have benefits through my wife, and until I'm making more money at GameStop, I'd rather just get the bigger paychecks. Oh wait, my company decides, instead of even OFFERING the benefits (which again, I'd waive), they're going to limit me down to no more than 25 hours a week, AND promote a second 'SGA' into each of our stores. So not only am I losing my hours that I currently need (I don't know if they understand, babies' aren't effing free.), they are promoting someone in our store that in NO way deserves the hours he's going to be taking from me.

So after four years of hard work and trying to get moved up to Assistant Manager, I now get to quit and find another job. D:

So, ulcers.
Normally I grin and bear them because they go away pretty soon.

These two though? Are positioned directly in front of my bottom from teeth just a little bit above that weird bit of skin connecting your lips to your gums.

In other words: the slightest unconscious movement canes like a bitch. So I turn to Bonjela, it never hurt before, so it'll be fine.
Previously we had kiddie Bonjela. Now we have adult Bonjela. OW.
So looking around for something less painful I see Bonjela Complete Plus which is kind of like a liquid plaster type thing. Naturally I applied it because I couldn't sleep, and needed relief.
Once, when I was ten and at my first Guide camp I tripped and grazed up my entire left shin on some gravel. It wasn't much, so I didn't do anything about it after wincing and wiping the gravel off my leg.
A day later, I was in shorts when some rude so-and-so pushed me off the path and I fell on my knees into a patch off stinging nettles.
That hurt lots.
So when I tell you that applying Bonjela Complete Plus to my ulcers felt exactly like someone rubbing stinging nettles into an open wound I am not exaggerating in the slightest.
That is bloody awful to use in so many ways: it stings to apply, you have to air dry the goo so your mouth aches from holding the affected area away from the rest of your mouth; by drying part of your mouth it feels awful when you let go; the 'plaster' makes you feel like you numbed part of your mouth and tastes like rubber.
And yet it works. The ulcers already feel a lot better, but by God is it horrible to use!

ION:
Watched The Prince of Egypt again last night. That film is amazing no matter what. Unless you absolutely detest all forms of animation.

Still, my favourite song is 'All I Ever Wanted'/'The Plagues'.

Due to my having essentially no idea what the hell I was doing at the time, I watched the sequel to HoND first, enjoyed it for the 'ooh, shiny', considered it on par with anything else Disney came up with (I had a really low opinion of Disney at the time, HoND was one of the first really good ones I ever saw.), and then watched the original.
I think I fell out of my chair when Frollo showed up on his horse.
I also thought he had died of a heart attack at the end of Hellfire, because of him falling to the floor. I was so confused I didn't even get the full amazingness of the song until I watched it again.
I once watched a youtube set of all of HoND, where they had cut out every single clip of the gargoyles. It was amazing.

Yeah, it's annoying that it keeps jamming at 3:06, fortunately I just keep hitting play again and again until it worked.

Well, depending on your keyboard, prying it out and cleaning underneath it might actually be the best idea. It's probably best done on a classical keyboard, they look a bit more robust than the laptop ones.

'Tis a laptop keyboard.
Normally when keys jam I just work a fingernail under it until it works, but it doesn't seem to work with this key.
Next stop: a screwdriver.

Seriously, what sequel? Disney wouldn't stoop to completely destroying the meaning of the film by then making appearance mean everything; putting a camp gay villain in and then making him also ugly and unpleasant, cementing bad stereotypes; completely destroying whatever last hope I had of the gargoyles being imaginary by having other people interact with them; and don't even get me started on the crappy music on that film which utterly shatters the grandness and size of the original; the worse-than-telly quality of the animation; the deadness of the performance; the complete insincerity evident in every single cell of the film; AND THE CHILDREN!
And how all the original gypsies are now goodie two-shoes and the circus folk are now all pure evil with the exception of the one 'ugly' woman. And you can tell she's ugly and an outcast because she's a little clumsy. And it's not like that ruins the original intended message of the first film.
Or that switching everything from Complex And Interesting (excepting Phoebus and those GODDAMNED GARGOYLES) to even more cut-and-dry than black and white, or implying that travellers are child-stealing thieves and perverts!
Or ruining the heartwarming ending of the first film.
Or completely depopulating the city of Paris.
Or the music!
AND COMPLETELY IGNORING THE ENTIRE PLOT OF THE FIRST FILM.

OH MY GOD I HATE THAT FILM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not that it exists of course.

But I do remember the first time I saw Hunchback. I was six. Talk about a revelation; I would not be surprised if that film - and the music, particularly 'Hellfire' - were what got me interested in choral music, Latin and classical music. Also depictions of various religions in various media. And animation. And music.

I once watched a youtube set of all of HoND, where they had cut out every single clip of the gargoyles. It was amazing.

I've seen that version, it's pretty good, but the jerkiness of the cut annoys me. It also doesn't cut the gargoyles as much as I like so I get jerkiness editing for slightly less Idiocy.

Probably you know that I'm good for a rant, and my rants tend to be amusing? Or at least diverting for a few minutes.

Which is why I almost never watch them. Aside from the Aladdin ones and Lion King II (which really is surprisingly good, with a few pretty good songs) I actually kind of like Cinderella III.

Cinderella 3 was actually really good. It furthered some development, made out main characters actually have character, and it had a reletively interesting plot (what happens when evil gets their hands on the power to make dreams come true).

The Alladin movies are still the best sequels though.

FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS DISCUSSION PIXAR FILMS ARE PIXAR FILMS ONLY, BECAUSE FRANKLY THERE ARE VERY FEW BAD PIXAR FILMS, INCLUDING THE SEQUELS.

*comfort hugs Cobra*

Of all the Disney sequels it's one the best! And the music is lovely, and the animation is pretty good for a sequel. And I love Zira (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xoDgbVdrj8), she's demented and psychotic and she has a great song!
Also 'Exile (Not One Of Us)' is chilling.
Kiara can go hang though.

See it. Now.
You will hate the gargoyles, everyone does; but everything else is amazing. Except some of the humour, but I'm guessing they had to put it in to keep the good stuff.
The music's probably the best part of the film, but combine it with the visuals and I just die. Especially 'Hellfire'!

Absolutely. If that film had been created, I would definitely have hated it after idiotically trying to watch it a second time once I saw the original that actually exists.

The music. Gods, the music made me so happy.

Yes, getting rid of all the Idiocy would have been excellent, but that's pretty hard, considering they were directly interacting with stuff at the end of the battle, even in small amounts.

Assuming there ever was such a sequel. It could just be a mass rumour.

The music. Gods, the music made me so happy.

It's gotten to the point where I know the soundtrack in its entirety off by heart.

Curly, I've always wondered, how DID you achieve your apothesis to become a deity?

Umm, I kind of can't remember entirely any more?
It was about a hundred threads ago after all. I think RB was in a silly stage (shocking I know) and a lot of people proclaimed themselves - or were proclaimed - deities based upon inside jokes or the things they knew the most about.
I was fairly shy back then, but I knew books, and was always a very articulate poster, and back when I used to give out a lot of book recommendations I had a successful match over ninety percent of the time, so I was proclaimed Goddess of the Written Word.
It hung around and the more and more I got into literature and analysing it, and the more I became comfortable about expressing my opinions the more people seemed to agree with my godhood.
(I really should go find out who made me a god in the first place and thank them)
And then the Shipping threads happened based off a joke in the You! threads, and somehow I ended up getting godfics written about me as Koorlyshtka and Koorilthulu/Koorlythulu, and other fics (often serial collaborative epics) where I was a kind of msytic lady who knew a lot about things I shouldn't, or there were semi-meta (or very meta fics) where I was Head of Shipping Inc., and a lot of my stories made people cry, so I think that's what solidified it.
I have a canon. I don't think there are many Playgrounders with a 'religious' canon, but I'm one of them.
Also at one point I wrote shipfic shipping Koorlystka/Koorilithulu which was a very meta self-insert, incest(?) letter fic.

But mostly I'm a pretty nice girl who's been around a fairly long time and has a genial relationship (or acquaintanceship) with a lot of other Old Timers, and my godhood is an in-joke that gets mentioned a lot.
Mostly though, I don't have a clue.

Personally I worship Cassie and Alarra.

I feel bad that I don't remember your ascension, Curly. 'A Friend Like Me' and the genie in general. He was very popular and had an excuse for the anachronisms and pop culture references. After that, every film had to have a genie.
To me, 'A Friend Like Me' is drectly responsible for 'A Guy Like You', and I cannot forgive the genie for that.

See, the easiest way to ensure someone watches something is just to find a time to sit them down in front of a screen with the DVD. It's what I did to make Serpy watch Watership Down recently. Of course, there are other things I kind of want her to watch, and now she's back in Australia. Maybe I can stream them for her or something.

Nope!
I want to, but I tend to source my books from second-hand shops or, lately, the internet.
And really, if I didn't like films based on their faithfulness to the source material I'd hate Hunchback. And Mulan, The Little Mermaid, Hercules, The Jungle Book and half a dozen others. I don't put the fairy tale ones in here for the most part as they used one version over the other, and usually not the darker ones.

For the sake of things, go with Disney Animated Canon. If it was all Disney I'd be extolling the sheer joy of Nightmare Before Christmas and Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Old Yeller and all sorts of things! Like The Avengers film. That's technically Disney now, but I class it MCU, so it's not Disney, and certainly not DAC.

Considering we're a serious progression raiding guild (as I've said before, 45th guild on Nagrand progression-wise) we don't usually let noobs in. :P Haha. Which is also why I can't just skip out of a raid, considering I'm the off-tank for most of the bosses. Though it still sucks that I can't visit Ele unless I just come over later today.. So does Tangled count as Pixard or DAC? Because it very much feels like DAC.

Oh god I didn't sleep last night because I started watching anime and then it was 5am and I decided to stay up rather than screw my sleep cycle even more by going to sleep at that point and now it's 10am and I want nothing more than to sleep but I can't do that because it will utterly wreck me and if I have as much tea as I think I'm going to need I'm going to give myself the shakes from caffeine overdose.

Tangled is strait up a Disney produced movie. It's done in 3D like the Pixar film, but it's firmly in the Disney Animated Canon.

Girls Und Panzer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIrMJSX6lbw)

I spent the first 90 seconds going "What are they talking about and in what way is this related to the silhouette of a PzKpfw IV?" (okay, I actually thought PzKpfw III at first. I just can't tell them apart). Showed it to little brother the tankophile, and now he's watching it too. None of us have any idea of what's going on at all.

EDIT:
Little brother found another trailer/introduction thing. We still have no idea of what is going on, but it has a pink M3 Lee, so it must be good!

I'll be honest, I didn't actually like Hunchback when I saw it as a kid.

I've seen it once when I was a kid and it made me cry. I've used this example throughout the ages to describe why I can't (or rather couldn't) watch movies with any sort of sad element to them. I was terribly emotional as a kid.

Hmm, come to think about it, I can't remember when that stopped to be a thing...

Finding Nemo 2: Losing Nemo (Again)

Or maybe it's Finding Nemo II, and it's about how Nemo goes looking for his son, Nemo II.

I don't know. The pretext for sequels is usually pretty thin. A good standalone film will wrap up its plot, not leaving much room for continuations. This is why sequels quite often start by undoing part of the first film's ending.

Sequels. Just Say No.

See, the easiest way to ensure someone watches something is just to find a time to sit them down in front of a screen with the DVD. It's what I did to make Serpy watch Watership Down recently. For shame.

I don't think I've ever cried at a film out of sadness. Possibly Ring of Bright Water, but I was awfully young when I saw that. That doesn't mean that films can't make me sad. That scene from The Lion King (I'm sure most people know the one I mean) was heartbreaking, and that was at an age when I'd already all but grown out of Disney films.

Even now, there's the odd film that retains its capacity to make me feel really miserable. Films that seem to take the pains to identify every strand of hope remaining and stamp them out, where despicable villains get away with everything. I don't tend to cry, but it does make me feel rather empty inside.

Wha-? NOOOOOO. Really, no, that one has no basis for a sequel. Toy Story did, because when half of the friendship is apparently immortal and the other will grow up, it's reasonable. Although now that that final question has been resolved, now it's finished. Wrapped up. But Nemo? No! That one is :smallfurious:

Nah man. Fictional characters are meant to be empathized with. If you're hearing about your friend's friend whose life is going through a really rough patch, you shouldn't necessarily feel bad. Did I ever tell you guys 'bout that dream I had t'other day? I was in a tiny bar, not many people in it, but over in the corner was Townes Van Zandt, playing a set. He was drunk and playing badly and forgetting the words, but I was in awe. I was just hanging on every note, eatin' it up, man. Then, I realized I had my guitar with me, and decided to ask him if he would maybe sign it after his set was over. Then I remembered he was dead, and he disappeared.

I don't know what that means, but it was a pretty cool dream. I just e-mailed his wife and told him about it.

Well, it makes sense that fictional characters are experiencing worse in their fictional situations than your real-life friends. Moreover, (good) fiction tends to be "writ larger" than real life. You get a heightened sense of the context; the characters tend to be more coherent and expressive than real people. If the characters are well portrayed you can relate to them just as you can real friends. So fictional characters being put through the wringer might well upset you as much as real people with relatively trivial first-world problems.

I don't think there's anything wrong with being moved by fiction (be it literature, film, television, or whatever). In fact I'd have thought it's part of the point. I find it odd that people seem kind of proud of their inability to be moved by fiction, because they know it's not real. That seems to be missing the point a bit.

Actually, that was just a reference to the image I just made. If you look closely, the should-have-been rectangular body is somewhat narrowed off under your arms as a way to indicate that you're hugging really hard (also, teddybears are soft). It's an idea I got for some reason.

Yeah, I see. but I still want more Teddy-pics! NAOW

No. Dragonball is all Dragonball. The US added Z after the time skip to make things easier ... GT is it's own non-canon, monstrosity though.

Mrrgh, school. I've entertained myself today by finally doing my homework and writing in increasingly fancy/complicated fonts various phrases not in English.

For example, decorating each of my notebooks with "cogito ergo sum', with the exception of my French notebook which got 'je pense donc [not entirely sure if that was the right word to use, by the way] je suis'

Which reminds me, my French teacher was impressed by my use of a complex sentence this year. I'm in French 2. <head slam desk sharp conjunction with> :smallsigh:

... Look, I love Locke as much as the next stupid idiot, but you can't have intelligent thought be your main criteria for life. (It IS Locke right? Its SOMEONE from that time period, I'm not good at those names. Cant have been Hobbes... Descartes? That Russian lady wheoever-she-was?:smallsigh: Augh. Noticeable personages of Enlightenment Europe disagree with me alot.) But I haven't read much writings and am blind on the context of said sentence, so I can't elaborate much. Latin phrases are painful in that English lacks the finesse to effectively translate the thought and poetry right. It always comes out... clunky.:smallyuk: And I have trouble talking about clunky translations because I always get the wrong context or interpret it wrong.)

I'm curious as to who "that Russian lady" is.

Fun fact - The original phrase was in French, although he put it in Latin in some of his later work. It means basically the same in all three languages, although some understanding of the context helps to avoid misinterpretation. It's about existence of consciousness, not life per se.

That might be harder to get than you think, I'm notoriously good at not getting caught on film (and I'm not even camera-shy). I just went through all our pictures from our Danish-German holiday this summer (~450 pictures), and there were 2 pictures where I was close up, turned to the camera and not blurry. One of the pictures included a bit too much of the rest of my family for me to feel comfortable posting here, and I barely recognised myself in the other.

I'll check a few other albums when I get home from school.
