You are currently in your cell-like chambers awaiting your first orders as a deathwatch kill team. A messenger arrives carrying a sealed message along with several other sealed envelopes.

Messenger:"My lord the sealed message is your orders and the separate envelopes are the contents of redacted portions of the message. You are instructed to utterly destroy those portions after reading them. This is deemed a secret mission and some contents are classified. I am to watch you carry this out."

Inside the message it reads:
Location-[Purged]
2-4 pack's Squads of Space Wolves have been declared excomunicae traitorous by the inquisitor Regimus havor aswell as multiple companies of imperial guard of the asvus 150th regiment. The exact number is unknown. This is as of [Purged]. They may have heavy support and may have vehicles. This is a difficult mission to undertake however it was made clear that we must deal with this treat. You will be given 45 requisition credits for this mission from the armoury so make sure to stock up on gear. It is unknown exactly what crimes they commited to warrant this designation, however we must do our duty.
The fighting will be fierce and it has been requested that we 'not forget' to Collect their geneseed. This will be a secondary objective. You will be taken in via thunderhawk and it will remain in the area to provide fire support if there is light enough anti-air on the ground.
We have no knowledge of enemy unit composition, for all we know there could be a Wolf lord 'captain' in Tactical dreadnaught armour. They are likely to be roaming the engagement zone rather than in one fortified area. This is to be a total purge mission with no survivors and no prisoners. There will be guard detachment waiting to come and clean up after primary threat has been neutralized.
Let me sum this up for you. There are up to 40 primary threats, and up to 3000 secondary threats. There are reports of heavy weapons teams and vehicles but numbers are not known.
The inquisitor is also in the area still. You are to find out why he issued this designation, and if the reasons are less than convincing, then you are to show him how the emperors astartes voice their displeasure.
Oh, and the area that is likely to contain your target is a roughly 4km^2 and heavily fortified. You will not have any naval support. The enemy will be dug in and likely to be fierce enemies. Good hunting kill team [Purged]
report to the landing bays to be transported to a waiting escort to make way to the system.

Ioustinos opens the door for the messenger, eyebrows arched in surprise as he had yet packed away the very few personal belongings that he had transfered from his previous post. "Thank you, stay right there," he says to the messenger as he sits down on the bunk and reads the message. "I don't like it when they expunge vital info..." he mutters slightly as he sees that the amount of time that the traitors have had to prepare their defenses is missing from the report. "Gotten a lot of my brothers killed."

He finishes reading the full report and then sets the less classified bulk of it on the bunk beside him. Taking the Top Secret portions of the message in his large hands, he shreds them into as small pieces as he can and places them in the empty head near the bunk. "Will this do?" he asks.

The messenger looks at ioustinos wearily.
Messenger:"I.i.i... Suppose my lord, I think they would have prefered if it was incinerated though..."

"Well, I don't exactly have anything on hand with which to burn it, so I think that this will have to do," Ioustinos says with a nod and a smile to the messenger. "Besides, the water will make quick work of the paper, I believe, or at least the ink. Anything else?" he asks.

"Hmm..."

This was an unusual order. The Deathwatch's role was to terminate xenos threats in small special operations. Typically, when the Astartes erred it was the duty of the sororitas or ordo maleus to clear the mess up. That they were calling the Deathwatch to perform this operation was strange. Even more fascinating, they were asking them to neutralize three dozen astartes, including a company commander.
Almost sounded like the wolves had insulted someone with an ego larger that was comfortable and they were disproportionate in their response. Oh well, orders were orders.
He picked up a flamethrower on which he had been performing work and ignited the end, burning the message. This done, he tapped his head.

"It's all in here now."

He went to the briefing room to join his battle brothers to discuss the mission.

Ioustinos dresses for the mission to come, donning the Storm Warden issued power armor that he had brought with him. He looks somewhat mournfully at the suit as he carefully unpacks it from the metal crate that he had shipped it in from his previous assignment. He had hoped that he would have had a bit more time to modify it before setting off on his first mission: applying yet another coat of paint to a particularly stubborn patch that had taken an Ork bullet on The Ridge. Even the Techmarines who had added the appropriate Deathwatch markings to it still hadn't gotten it fixed to his liking.

He heads for the Quartermaster's office after he has finished getting suited up, passing by the other crew members aboard. In his hand, he holds the req credits while mentally preparing a list of the stuff that's needed.

We're going against heretic Astartes and guards, with the possibility of at least one of them in Terminator armor that we know of. Probably need a grenade launcher attachment for my bolter and krak grenades for it. 'Course that's a bit overkill. Probably just a few more frag grenades for it, too. Add some Vengeance rounds for the bolter and I already have the fire selector. I don't have the creds for all that, though... Krakens will probably do the job and I imagine that they're cheaper, too.

Req. List

3 clips Bolt rounds
2 clips Kraken rounds (10 creds including special issue)
Aux. Grenade Launcher (15 creds)
2 Krak grenades (2 creds)
2 Frag grenades (2 creds)

Total: 29 credits spent

Total Equipment List

Bolt Pistol
Bolter
4 clips bolt rounds
3 clips kraken rounds
Aux. grenade launcher
5 frag & krak grenades
combat knife
etc.

With his equipment acquired, Ioustinos heads towards the briefing room.

Elyas sighs as a knock comes to his door interrupting his prayers. He stands forming the sign of the Aquilla before his small Icon of the Lion and opens the door.

He frowns as he quickly memorises the mission details. Making certain only he could see the envelopes containing the secrets of their holy charge. "Thank you." He motions for the courier to wait a moment but keeps the door open. He wouldn't want to poison this servant's mind against Astartes.

Moving back to his shrine he crumples up the redacted information and places it in a bowl lighting it on fire. He kneels slightly to the left so the messanger can see what is happening without actually having to enter the room. He prays for the mission's success until the fire dies and quickly eats what is left. His acid glands make short work of the message and he walks past the messanger without a word.

He heads towards the Armory, where they keep his heavy bolt gun and the other tools he will need. The fact that other Astartes have fallen leaves a bad taste in his mouth. Yet he wasn't suprised, he had always known the Wolves' refusal to honor the Codex would erode their devotion to the Emperor. It had only been a matter of time.

He spares a nod to Ioustinos as he passes him and presents his list to the Forge Master or one of the attending Servitors, whoever could retrieve his weapons the fastest without angering the Machine Spirits.

Requisition: The usual +
Astartes Soundstrike Missle Launcher 10
3 Krak Missles 15
1 Kraken Clip For Heavy Bolter 10
Astartes Cluster Mines 5
Cartograph 5

All 45 Req. Spent

That done, he heads to the briefing room to join the others.

"Tell me brothers. What do you make of the mission we have been given ?"

Elyas shrugged, "The Emperor is with us. I am unconcerned."

Of course, he was concerned by the fall of so many. He may not appreciate the company of Space Wolves, but if he honestly thought them traitors he would have turned his bolter a different way in several battles.

"Give it to me." he says simply and directly. As Zapherean quietly reads the message his mind works feverishly already several ideas about the situation and how exactly it happened, the 'rebellion' of so many Space Wolves seems unlikely, but as always one needed more information. With the message finished he grabbed one of the candles in his rooms and burned it while turning towards the messenger "Sufficient?" he asked with that done he quickly stormed out of the room towards the armoury.

Astartes Chainsword - 5 Requisition
Kraken Rounds x3 - 15 Requisition
Red-dot Laser Sight - 10 Requisition
Astartes Krak Grenade x5 - 5 Requisition

Upon reaching the landing by everybody at once see's 6 astartes standing next to the thunderhawk, all of them have their helmets attached to their belts instead of wearing them. It is visible that one of them an ultramarine and the leader most likely, has 3 service studs adorning his temple.

Upon first glance it looks as if they have 2 terminators with them, but once you get closer you can see that the second isn't in terminator armour but is simply an extremely large space wolf. Upon nearing you can hear their conversation.

Voice 1:"hahaha you are growing soft in your old age claudius, I remember you used to be able to keep up with me for hours. And suffering from the effects still? Bah I must find another drinking partner at this rate."

Voice 2:"Ynagvar, I have never been one to party like that. How you ever convinced me to join you I do not know..."

Voice 3:"I could keep up with you my large friend, however, I doubt you could keep up with me"

Voice 1:"You think you could keep up with me??? Why alistayr I might think you had gone insane."

Voice 4:"What of this mission then, it was rather cryptic. Mentioning that there might be 'other hostiles' in the area and that there was another kill-team dispatched to deal with them specifically"

Voice 2:"Most likely some new team that they are breaking in on an assignment that is far too difficult for them with us there to bail them out if needed...."

Voice 5:"I feel that this mission has more to it than we are told. Though it is not unheard of for a kill-team to be dispatched to deal with chaos space marines, it is a bit unusual."

Voice 1:"I will deal with the cowardly traitors as I have always done. None of the traitorous ones shall escape my wrath!"

Voice 2:"Makradon have you looked over the plans I showed you? What do you make of this city."

Voice 5:"They were vague and indistinct images, most likely formed from high orbit scans and the enemy is employing some kind of void shielding would produce that effect. But from what I could make out it looks to be extremely fortified. If it does have the void shielding as I suspect, then my legion could hold out in that city for decades against sustained assault. Oh look the new team arrived, and I do think they are new as their paint is still glistening"

Voice 1:"I think your right on that one makradon, they do have that new team look don't they."

Elyas stuck with his Kill Team for the moment, he tried to catch a glimpse of their chapter markings, to determine who exactly he'd be working with. The Wolf set him a little on edge. His life could very well depend on this Astartes, would he be compromised fighting his own brothers?

And what was this about additional hostiles? He remembered nothing of the sort in the report.

The large space wolf sniffs the air and grin's

Space wolf:"Why nathaniel, I think your brother here is not as strong of heart as you. I can smell fear on him. He must be scared of a few traitor legionaires."

Dark angel:"I would think he is afraid you are getting hungry. It should put the fear into anyone."

Elyas glares at the Space Wolf. The dog dared accuse him of fear! But no, he didn't need to give the Wolf the satisfaction of reacting. He nods respectfully to the other Dark Angel and boards the Thunderhawk. When he is aboard he sits quietly, thinking.

Just like the Scout companies, more experienced marines on hand to bail us out. Well, with the Emperor's blessing, it will be an unnecessary precaution.

He looks at Ioustinos and notices his jitters. Other Astartes got them within Elyas's own chapter. But for a Devastator that would be a liability.

Elyas looked at his own gauntleted fist, as steady as the Emperor's gaze. All he felt, was a profound calm wash over him.

Dark angel:"I wouldn't if I were you. You shall lose this bet. He does this with all new squads we have to fight alongside."

Space wolf:"Bah don't discourage him nathaniel, it will be worth it. I know I shall win anyways. So what do you say little angel.

Zapherean snorts slightly at the discussion, the sound carrying a feeling of amusement and slight scorn, as much as a sound could. His blood boiling in anticipation for battle, in the back of his mind he could feel the Red Thirst, an ever present call that would perhaps lead him towards an even greater desolation. Elyas didn't have time to respond to the Space Wolf's proding before Zapherean came. So, he shrugged.

Anger? Feh! Maybe it was useful for those blindly swinging chainswords, but it would be a liability to a Devastator.

He strapped himself in, leaning his head against the side of the hull. Good memories flooded his skull, there was the memory of turning the demon possesed planetary governor to pulp. Of storming that warhulk and painting the interior with ork blood. But most of all, he thought on the Rock, for some reason he had a feeling this would be a long soujorn in the Reach.

With everyone aboard the engines on the thunderhawk roared to life almost as soon as the hatch was closed and soared out of the bay. You will notice that there are no portholes in it to see out.

Ioustinos ignores the other kill team's jokes about his shakes, for the Storm Warden had long ago learned that they weren't exactly something that he could control.

He breathes in a long drag of helmet-filtered air as the Thunderhawk lifts off. The minutes-long transit between space and ground: the hardest part of any mission for him.

The thunderhawk suddenly lifts off again and you can feel it moving. After about 20 minutes of travel you hear a grating scraping sound and several small portholes on the ship open up. You can see the flashes and streaking lights of stellar warfare as well as quite a few burnt out hulls of vessels. There are numerous twisted and blasted wrecks of small craft that are probably fighters littering the space between. You can even make out the hulked remains of an astartes strike cruiser, though the chapter markings are impossible to make out through the severe damage to the hull.

Looking forewards towards the approaching planet you can see through a large amount of cloud cover burn and blackened land and even still streaks of light hurl towards the planets surface to impact the ground.

Elyas nods absentmindedly, "Yes, receiving regular reinforcement over the course of what looks to be months, given the number and varying degrees of disrepair. Besides brother, there aren't only Tau, I count a third element in this party. It looks to be Eldar, though I cannot discern the faction. Either way they die by bolter and flame."

"The planet itself has suffered heavy bombardment by the three factions, it's difficult to say who has the upper hand at the moment. Though I see Imperial bombardment tactics directed towards our current destination."

He turns tothe Void and squints underneath his helmet,

"I can see signs of both Xenos and Imperial fire on all of the ships, I take this to mean that the Tau and Eldar are as against each other as they are against the Imperium. No doubt we will learn more once we reach the surface."

He looks at the Ultramarine squad leader, "In short, three enemies and we are heading towards enemy controlled territory, at least I believe it to be so."

He checks his bolt pistol. Making sure it's primed. He didn't need to check his Heavy Bolter or his Rocket Launcher. They he had already taken care of, almost lovingly.

The ultramarine and his team converse for a moment in a language none of you can understand. When he looks back towards elyas he has a very grim look on his face.
Ultramarine:"It is far worse than that. Between us we have spotted several traitor legion ships, the remmanents of a few ork vessels and a xenos ship that none of us recognize. Elyas turns to his new squadmate (Xavier) and shrugs, "Unclear, my best guess is that the battle has turned into a free for all."

He looks out the viewport for a few moments before asking, "Do you have any intel on the Archenemy?"

Chaos, always left a worst taste in his mouth than even the slobbering Xenos. Of course, he couldn't help but wonder, why in the name of the Emperor hadn't Exterminatus been ordered? With so many of His enemies in one place... Elyas just couldn't see a reason to let the planet live.

Coming in you can feel the thunder hawk jostleing, shaking, and sharp movements of the lander and you start to get the feeling that it isn't from turbulance anymore. This suspicion is confirmed when you can feel a loud low pitched ringing and an ominously prominent dent pops up on the floor. After 10 minutes or so of the rough going with relatively few hits you can gear a collosal roar as a hole is punched clean through the floor and one wall of the thunderhawk. Luckily it did not hit anybody but as soon as the hole appears an enourmas amount of sound can be heard. You can hear whistling and whooshing of ordanance narrowly missing the explosions of aa fire detonating nearby and other less identifiable sounds that combine into a deafening cacaphony of sound. You can tell for sure that the hull of the thunderhawk had some kind of sound dampening technology in place other than the thick armour plating of the craft. Soon after the hole is punched you hear the pilots voice come over the intercom. Him shouting to make sure he is heard.Pilot:"NOVA TEAM, PREPARE TO DROP, IT IS TOO HOT TO MAKE A LANDING. THERE ARE GRAV SHOOTS UNDER YOUR SEATS. THESE ARE ON A LOWER SETTING SO THEY WILL ONLY SLOW YOU TO JUST THE POINT THAT YOUR ARMOURS SHOCK ABSORBERS CAN HANDLE IT. Zapherean smiled behind his helmet as he grabbed his grav chute, the opportunity to use his jump pack from the start was certainly amusing.

Elyas pulled his gravshoot on 2 seconds he thought to himself as he hurried over to the hatch.

Right as everybody is getting over to the hatch quick release bolts blow and it drops open even as a siren sounds signaling the jump time.

Elyas is the first one out, helmet and armour protecting him from the biting wind. Elyas whispers a quick prayer to the Emperor to see him through the anti aircraft fire so that he bring fiery death upon Man's foes.

Ioustinos watches the hatches blow open and Elyas jump out. The Storm Warden can feel the wind from the planet and the depressurization hit his armor as he rushes up to the edge. "Hope to see you boys later," he says to the other kill team in the 'hawk as he leaps off of the edge.

He falls downward, bolter in hand and activates the chute when he needs to.

With a slight wave towards the other squad Zapherean quickly followed his Brother's out of the hatch. The wind and fall filling him with adrenaline and exhilaration.

Xavier took a look out and saw the fight. A second later, he addresses the grav chute's machine spirit.

"Do be kind and not fail me now." he says as he jumps out the thunderhawk.

Rapidly dropping through the air you notice that you are dropping towards a landing pad that has large warehouses to one side. Looking towards your objective area you can see a large fortress that looks from a rough judge to be about the same size as was described in your briefing. You see it is surrounded by a massive wall as tall or taller than a mighty titan and still having towers spaced at each corner and with 4 between each corner. There are massive gate complexes at the center of each wall that is a tower on each side of the gates of the normal size with an even larger structure that is surrounding it. The walls and tower are bristling with defensive weaponry and you can see a shimmering shield covering the entire fortress that is several layers thick. As you watch you can see an orbital bombardment strike at the fortress but failed to penetrate the shield. You can also see many streaks of light striking at the city walls. You can see behind the wall massively fortified buildings that look to have armour plating on them. At the point of the wall opposite you are dropping towards has a massive section blown out from about halfway up and it looks possible to make your way up the wall at that point.

Landing on the ground you can feel a huge impact as the pilot was very serious when he said that it was set to slow you down just enough and no more. The force of the impact leaves cracks in the ferrocrete landing pad. Luckily no fire appears to be directed your way though you can see that there is a considerable amount still firing on where the thunderhawk would be.

Ioustinos lands easily on the ground, feeling the slight jolt of his armor's shock absorbers take up the majority of the fall. The Storm Warden raises his bolter and scans the horizon for any targets.

He looks to the fortress on the horizon and motions with his head towards it. "Let's head out."

Xavier extricates himself from the impact crater his landing left and immediately scanned the horizon. Once assured no hostiles were directly around, he immediately checks the auspex attached to his right arm for any signals around, especially astartes or inquisitorial IFF signals:

"Lets see if I can find our friend from the inquisition."

As he rises from his slightly crouched position in the crater his eyes quickly scan around for threats and enemies. His hands ready by his chainswords, but upon failing to find an enemy he approaches his brothers waiting to move out.

Before you and standing between you and the fortress is a massive row of warehouses or hangers you cannot tell for sure which, perhaps they serve as both? You have to proceed through them to reach the fortress. The warehouses are about 50 meters away from you.

"All right, it looks like we'll have to go through these buildings to make to the fortress," Ioustinos says, stating the obvious to the fellow members of his kill team.

"I think we should head through in a wing pattern: Elyas, I think you and that heavy bolter should be the middle and behind while Xavier and I take the left and right sides. Any other ideas?" he asks.

The warehouse is a tall ominous structure easily a 3 story structure judging by the 3 rows of openings you see on the front. There is a complex elevator system on the right side of the building. The elevators themselves look to easily be able to hold a land raider. And there are 3 of them. However the warehouse is not in the shape it once was as there are a multitude of holes and craters in its reinforced surface, aswell as half of the top floor appearing to be collapsed.

Elyas's eyes narrow as he looks at the building. "Hmm, not promising. I suggest using the elevators to gain access. Brother Tech Marine, can you tell if they are in working order?"

Brother Xavier approached the elevator's command console and examined to see if the machine spirit was in a state to cooperate.

Xavier attempts to bring up the elevators controls only to discover it has no power. Even if it did, they looked less than safe as several of the hits to the building had hit the various support structures for the elevators. The massive door on the warhouse is however open enough to make your way inside the building.

inside you can see a vast open space with a heavily reinforced ceiling with multiple pillars spaced throughout. You see some equipment that look to be servicing stations for craft and equipment to move cargo around. it looks to be deserted and is empty but for a few broken crates.

His eyes roam across the expanse for threats as he continues talking "In any case we need more information." his hand resting on his chainsword.

"I see we think alike, brother." answered brother Xavier, still looking at his auspex. "I believe we should find the Inquisitor and ask him. The sign of renegade ships in orbit does show that there are..." he says the following words with much scorn "chaos astartes around."

"I'd say we at least disable the generators for the orbital shield, then, if we can't get the Inquisitor," Ioustinos suggests as he continues to walk with the rest of the kill squad throughout the first warehouse. His large boots crunch some of the weaker debris on the ground. "That way, if we can't reach him, the ships can..."
