Of course with different varieties of meteorites, getting one that's a poor choice for sword smithing is a possibility.

Of course, Sir Terry Pratchett (another author 'moderately' well-known for his fantasy writings), made his own star metal-infused sword (http://blogs.howstuffworks.com/2010/09/21/terry-pratchetts-meteorite-sword/) when he was knighted.

That is how "The Press" of Christchurch, New Zealand headlined that article. It made World Wide Words newsletter section of badly misworded quotes.
