AKA: I'm not dead, and now neither are the forums.

Finally getting time again to start making videos, so here I am again. My apologies to all for vanishing like that.

So, with things calmed down a tiny bit, it is time to start another LP. And since I've been wanting to get back into Minecraft again, I figured now would be an appropriate time.

Playlist is here (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5E528231A0674B27).

And Episode 1 of Iskandar's Travels is now live here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSQi66bEWuE&list=PL5E528231A0674B27&index=1&feature=plpp_video).

The timing of this forum going down was just wonderful. Finish recording and uploading the first video, boom, no forum for 2 days.

Also, sorry about the mic volume for the first 3 episodes, it is a brand new computer and I hadn't checked my volume levels. The following videos should be much better.

I'm only on video 2 so far, but I'm enjoying them. I just want to point out that at 34:19, you can see a giant face in the wall, and I was wondering if that was because of one of the mods.

Huh. Not intentionally. Random generation does some weird things, apparently.

Odd. The chances of random generation doing that must be very slim, and you must be very lucky

Keep up the good work

You know, Isk; in theory, you could use Youtube's scheduling ability to schedule your episodes to come out one day after another. On one hand, it'd give you less pressure you play tons and be less noticeable when there are periods between video releases... on the other hand, at the frequent rate you are putting them out at; they could pile up.

Just a suggestion, don't know how popular it would be with others or yourself. I already like that they're broken up into 30 minutes, helps when flash crashes on me (which seems regularly when I have Facebook games and Youtube running.

Personally, I enjoy watching a whole chunk of them at once.

Good lineup. I don't normally use Steve's Carts or Railcraft simply because with Thaumcraft2, there's Portals for getting around with. I also tend to avoid Portal Gun mod simply because that's not my play style. But other than that, very similar to what I typically run with.

I definitely look forward to watching your series!

Completely off topic, but something I've been eager for:

Isk, will you be doing a Let's Play of Xcom now that it's out?

Iskandar
2012-10-09, 05:08 PM
I'm considering it, yeah. Mind, I suck at this game, something awful. I'm having fun, but I'm also losing.

Don't care. Still want to see footage of it.
And you were the one that me interested in Xcom anyways. (I would have got the game myself, but money was tight this season)

Yeah, I probably would not have bought the new XCom if it hadn't been for your videos.

When having the Red Power mod, this is a laggy nightmare on generation:
Skyland+cave world. Also possibly very dangerous with holes everywhere.

Yeah, I noted that in my videos. You can see me going into NEI and, saving my inventory before going to a new age, just incase the game crashes. Which it did for that cave world in episode 11.

Just cave wasn't that bad for loading, but cave+sky took several minutes to load and requited re-logging was the loading was done.
One bad thing about Cave world is that if you have decay it is really hard to fine. I had a couple of blocks I found by pure luck.Do all Cave world have sand stone rows, then endless void at their bottom?

Edit:Just had a close call in a cave world. The answer for this one is yes, there is only strips of blocks(dirt this time), and endless void. Luckily I had 3 swords of zephyr so I was able to right click spam to fly on to one of the strips, then linked book out of there.

RP2 + Cave World lags because of how RP2 generates Marble. Once generation is complete, you don't have any further problems.

This is a known bug, which has the potential for crashing your game. Unfortunately, there's not a whole lot one can do about it. Best thing, if you don't use NEI, is to go into an unexplored world with minimal and sacrificial equipment. My typical exploration setup is about a half stack of torches, my link book back to the Overworld, bread or melons, and stone tools. If I crash and it punts me back to spawn, no big harm done.

Yeah, one of the bigger reasons I have NEI installed, that and keeping tab of the thousnd or so new recipes in all the mods I have installed. Love the NEI plugins for that.

Eh, I use CraftGuide for keeping track of recipies, and simply use expendable adventuring kits when exploring new undefined ages. But that is a perfectly valid use for NEI, I will admit.

BTW, not abandoning this LP for X-Com. Expect new videos at least once or twice a week.

Oi. Apparently I have a fairly poor set of speakers. Girlfriend is sick, so I am using my headphones to avoid disturbing her, and was watching and editing some of my videos... and, yeah, I need to balance my audio better.

I'll see what I can do to sort that out in my next batch of videos, which is coming soon.

Right, nothing I can do makes what i recorded sound like anything but complete crap. Frankly EVERYTHING I've recorded recently has been very poorly balanced, with the game audio all but drowning out my voice. I just never noticed because my speaker setup is, apparently, cheap jack... stuff?

I've uploaded a new test with, hopefully, a better audio balance here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycXE3Cc3szg). If everyone wouldn't mind having a listen, and tell me if I got it better, and if not what needs fixing.

This video sounds fine. You said previous stuff was bad? I haven't heard any issues in any of the Xcom videos or your Episode 12.

Sound is fine, same as it has been. I suspect it's your headphones that are junk.

Yeah, i suspect as well that it's your headphones, since your previous videos were decent and this one's no different. :smallconfused:

I have a full episode coming, and I think the change will be more apparent. Loud sounds from the game are much, much less likely to drown me out when I am speaking. it may be just me, but I am much happier with how this sounds.

In other news, quite a few new episodes coming. Two ish hours of play. Automation, exploration, research, and other fun things from almost every mod I use.

I keep yelling at the screen "NO! DON'T USE GEARS, USE CHIPSETS!!!"

Buildcraft 3.x has an Assembly Table you can build (will also need Lasers from Buildcraft to power them, and they will need BC power). Assembly table produces chipsets. These are used for your Logic Gates... but can also be used to replace the gears in logistics pipes recipies.

Please... please... build this so you can save yourself 3x gold and 4x iron with every replacement. You could've saved yourself 3 diamonds and the above by doing this with your sorting module as well...

That is all well and good, but the recipe for the assembly table calls for a diamond gear + a diamond, plus each laser requires 2 diamonds, and you really need 2 or 3 lasers to get any kind of speed out of the assembly table. That is 9+ diamonds, of which I have, I think, 1 at the moment. That isn't even counting the fact that lasers need power, steam engines at least, and preferably combustion, and I have NONE of that infrastructure set up.

It is on my to do list, certainly, but I am, at the moment, getting my basic automation off the ground. Then I need to get some kind of automatic mining set up so I have the resources to draw on to get the bigger, better stuff off the ground, Forestry, Steve's Carts, and, yes, the neat stuff from Buildcraft.

Despite looking, and being, somewhat disorganized, I do have a little bit of a plan.

I don't know how you edit your sounds, but on the off chance that you use audacity to mix the two streams together: It has an "Autoduck" plugin. Contrary to its name it doesn't make you sound like a member of the Anatidae family, but rather it automagically lowers the volume of one audio track when there's sound on the other.

PM me if you want/need help on that one.

No, what you mean are Peat and Biogas. Set up yourself a peat bog, which doesn't take much, and peat engines are better than Steam. You've got enough of a tree farm going that you can hold off on the Arboretum, but basically you need saplings, and the apatite you are collecting and a bit of sand to make fertilizer in your Fermenter. That'll produce as much Biomass as you like.

It is on my to do list, certainly, but I am, at the moment, getting my basic automation off the ground. Despite looking, and being, somewhat disorganized, I do have a little bit of a plan.

I always, -always- set up my Assembly Table before I set up my Logistics Pipes system. It's just such a massive return on my investments, especially in Gold, that I don't even consider making my first Logistics Pipes until after my Assembly Table has churned out a couple of Gold Circuits.

Generally, I get my peat bog set up ASAP, although if you have the version with the Thermionic Fabricator, you have to delay it until you have stable IC2 power and an electric engine. The peat bog gives you enough BC power to get started (it can also be burned in IC2 generators). From there, I generally get my forestry groove going with my Arb/Logger to provide my Fermenter with everything it needs for producing sweet, sweet Biomass. And I use the Biogas Engines to power my Lasers.

So yea, once I get my IC2 basic workshop setup, I go branch mining until I have enough diamonds for the Logger and the Lasers/Table. Sure, it's a pretty steep investment that early on, but it pays itself off, in my opinion.

Also, I'm sure you have heard of Frame Quarries? Try one with Arcane Bores as the mining head...

Once you start up an outside base, why not use mystcraft crystal portals to travel around to multiple floors and other areas.
