Im just experimenting for a game i have, where someone wants to play a draconic character, so i gave him two forms with varying abilities based on the standard tables from the black dragon tables. He is starting at 6th level so i didnt build anything before that.

Sometimes the Gods and Goddesses of the Dragons choose special children, fusing the spirit of a dragon directly with a humanoid child's spirit. this fusion creates a new person, when they reach adulthood, the draconic nature takes grasp, the person is forced into the shape of a wyrmling dragon. After the initial shock of this change, the knowledge of both magic and how to alter itself into a form more humanoid (but still quite draconic).

while in the form of a dragon, much of the abilities that standard dragons get manifest; while in humanoid form arcane magic is at their fingertips, while maintaining the overall strength that the draconic nature grants them.

Black Dragonborn

Speed: 60 ft. dragon form, 30 ft. humanoid form

Weapon Proficiencies: Proficient with its natural weapons only unless in its humanoid form, in which case, proficient with all simple weapons and one martial weapon of its choice.

Sorcerous Blood: treat yourself as a Sorcerer of equal level for the purposes of casting spells. Spells can only be used while in humanoid form.

Immunities (Ex): All dragons have immunity to sleep and paralysis effects. Black dragons are immune to Acid.

Blindsense (Ex): Dragons can pinpoint creatures within a distance of 60 feet. Opponents the dragon can’t actually see still have total concealment against the dragon. This cannot be used in humanoid form.

Keen Senses (Ex): A dragon sees four times as well a human in shadowy illumination and twice as well in normal light. It also has darkvision out to 120 feet.

Humanoid Shape (Su): as a standard action at will - alter your size class to medium, losing your natural flight and reduce base speed to 30 ft. You lose Breath Weapon, frightful presence and blindsense. You only gain one half of the natural armor bonus granted by the scales ability. You are treated as Humanoid and as dragon for any effects targeting type while in this form.

Overall, you appear much as a humanoid half-dragon while in this form.

Scales (Ex): gain a natural armor bonus to AC equal to your dragon HD. this bonus is halved when in humanoid form.

Acidic Breath Weapon (Su): 120 ft. Line of Acid, deals 1d4/HD acid damage, Reflex Half (DC 10 + ½ HD + Con Modifier), useable every 1d4+1 rounds. It cannot be used in humanoid form.

Corrupt Water (Sp): Once per day, a black dragon can stagnate 10 cubic feet of water, making it become still, foul, and unable to support animal life. The ability spoils liquids containing water. Magic items (such as potions) and items in a creature’s possession must succeed on a Will save (DC equal to that of the dragon’s frightful presence) or become fouled. This ability is the equivalent of a 1st-level spell. Its range is equal to that of the dragon’s frightful presence.

Frightful Presence (Ex): A black dragon can unsettle foes with its mere presence. The ability takes effect automatically whenever the dragon attacks, charges, or flies overhead. Creatures within a certain radius (150 ft., increasing to 180 ft. at 19th level) of the dragon are subject to the effect if they have fewer HD than the dragon. A potentially affected creature that succeeds on a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 dragon’s HD + dragon’s Cha modifier) remains immune to that dragon’s frightful presence for 24 hours. On a failure, creatures with 4 or less HD become panicked for 4d6 rounds and those with 5 or more HD become shaken for 4d6 rounds. Dragons ignore the frightful presence of other dragons. This cannot be used in humanoid form.

Not all of them can feel it. Most truly experience the surging of light a handful of times in their life. But for some, the light is a calling. It is a purpose, ingrained into their very nature - to live and breathe as the beacons to hold fast to the light in an often dark and terrible world.

For future reference, the Dragonfire Adept base class from Dragon Magic is an excellent option for people seeking a draconic character.

You don't turn into a dragon per se, but you get an at-will breath weapon, a number of effects to place on that breath weapon, Draconic Invocations, and a number of other neat abilities.
