View Full Version : Let's build a character together - take 2

Here we go with another attempt!

Ground rules:

- D&D 3.5
- 28 point buy
- ECL 6 (I don't mind if you have a 1-20 build in mind, but assume it's a level 6 character that needs to be played as is)
- Allowed sources: Core, PH2, ToB, Complete ..., Races of ..., SpC, MIC, Dungeonscape, variant races and classes from Unearthed Arcana.
Here's how it's going to work:
First player assigns a Strength score. The second, Dexterity score, and so on. After 5 scores were assigned, there's obviously only one possible value for Charisma, so we'll go with that. The sixth player chooses a race and applies racial adjustments to attributes.

Each of the next 6 players (or less than 6, if an LA race was chosen) will choose a class for one of levels 1-6, and make all relevant decisions for that level (bonus feats, if any, ACFs, if any, skill points, familiar or animal companion, if any, maneuvers/spells, if any, ability increase at level 4, etc).
Hit points are always maximum for level 1, and half of maximum for each next level.

The next (13th) player will equip the character with standard WBL. The one after that (14th), chooses a name, gender, and the 15th writes a cursory backstory, and we're done!

More rules, well, actually more of guidelines:
- To give as many people as possible a chance to participate, PLEASE DO NOT POST UNLESS AT LEAST THREE PEOPLE POSTED SINCE YOUR LAST POST.
- Please treat this as a serious attempt at character building, and don't deliberately make bad choices with the goal of sabotaging the exercise.
- Having said that, if you believe the person before you made a bad choice, don't yell at them or try to have it overruled, just go with what you have.
- While I encourage you to justify and discuss your past choices, I'd rather you NOT tell the next person(s) in line what to do and which future choices to make.

Here's what we have so far:

Dex 12 (4 points, 22 remaining)
Con ??
Int ??
Wis ??
Cha ??

This sounds like fun. I'm helping! :elan:

Ideally I'd like to spend more on dex, but with 10 str we should probably go towards some sort of non full BAB class, so it's more important to conserve points at this point.

Not too smart, but I can't stand having too few skill points...

Con will be 14, not 12, since ahenobarbi's first choice trumps over Tegannie's later post (which was since, so it seems, deleted ... )

i would have just put everything in Int to balance out the fact we have some less then choice choices for attributes

I choose Neraphim (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/iw/20040613a&page=2).

Medium, 30 ft movement, Darkvision, Camouflage (enemy denied Dex bonus for one attack once per encounter), +5 Jump, +2 Natural Armor, +2 Spot and Search, Favored Class: Ranger, Outsider Type, weapon familiarity with the Annulat (Thrown weapon that imposes a -2 penalty to AC against it's target, so basically +2 to hit).

Druid 1 then, Companion Spellbond, max ranks in Survival, Listen, Spot, Kn: Nature, Handle Animal, and Concentration. Animal companion is a war-trained Riding Dog, which he's taken ten on Handle Animal to add Warbeast (MM2) to.

Let's continue with Druid 2, continuing to max ranks in Survival, Kn: Nature, Handle Animal, and Concentration and puting 2 ranks in Heal.

Next player, don't forget that (assuming you choose a druid level) your animal companion advances by 2 HD, which gives them skill points and a bonus feat.

Lets keep going Druid, so Druid 3.

We already have our synergy for Know Nature and Survival, so lets put those on hold for a level. Continue max ranks in Concentration and Handle animal. Put two each in Spot and Listen to get those back up to max.

For his feat, lets give him Extend Spell. I was going to go with Spell Focus Conjuration, but this is only a 6 level build and I assume that the 6th level feat will be filled by something else.

Listen and Spot for the dogs skills. Improved Natural Attack (bite) for his feat.

Druid 4
Skill points: 1 Spellcraft, 5 Diplomacy.
Ability increase: +1 Wis

Telonius

Druid 5. Skills: 1 Spellcraft, 1 Concentration, 1 Spot, 1 Listen, 2 cross-class points into Tumble (giving him one rank, so he can attempt to tumble past if it becomes necessary).

OP updated. Note that the next level advances the animal companion to 6 HD, so you get to pick feats for both yourself and the dog (if it's a Druid level, of course)

Unarmed swordsage 1
Improved unarmed strike
Didcipline Focus (Tiger claw)
Quick to act +1
Manouvers: Flashing sun (DW) Wind Stride (DW) Counter charge (SS) Cloak of deception (SH) Shadow jaunt (SH) Sudden Leap (TC)
Stances: Blood in the water (TC)
Feats: Natural spell
Skills: Jump +7 ranks, Tumble +1 rank

I just don't have time to do equipment so I will try to skip that and move to gender and name. Feel free to override me since I am admittedly out of order.

Gender: Male

(since the last one was female)

Name: Mai Tall Tree

(based on the Neraphim naming convention)

WBL is 13,000 gp:

Stormfire Ring (MIC, 4,000 gp)
+1 Deflection bonus to AC added to the ring (MIC p234, 2,000 gp)
Healing Belt (MIC, 750 gp)
Wilding Clasp on the belt (MIC, 4,000 gp)
Unguent of Timelessness applied to sixteen Bone Talisman (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mb/20040721a) (turning) spell foci (300 gp)
Wand of Camouflage, CL 1, 30 charges (SC, 450 gp)
Wand of Lesser Vigor, CL 1, 30 charges (450 gp)
Icelance spell focus (SC, 50 gp)
Masterwork Studded Leather (175 gp)
Masterwork Chain Shirt Barding (350 gp)
475 gp remaining for mundane gear

Due to the Wilding Clasp, the belt 'continues to function' when he Wild Shapes. One function of a belt is to hold other items, so any items his belt is holding will also benefit from that effect.

I hope he has flexible pants...

Good job on the equipment.
