So it's that time of year again, and your local goth kitty is looking to decorate the outdoors for halloween. We have a fenced-in wooden porch and a small yard with a retaining wall around it.

Unfortunately, both time and money are at a premium right now. So I figured I'd look to the playground for ideas on quick/easy decorations. Try to avoid anything that wouldn't be safe for the little kiddoes coming around, though!

You should find this somewhat helpful:

Somehow I don't think that would last long enough...at least not past the first squirrel.

That's why you install anti-squirrel lasers.

Kill your enemies, use their innards. Free and fairly simple, as long as you don't use their faces and you burn the setup down once your party is over.

Uh... Jack-o-lanterns? Takes an hour and costs about 10 bucks per pumpkin.

$10 a pumpkin? Good Lord, where do you buy your pumpkins? o_o

What about Strong Sad's severed head? (http://www.homestarrunner.com/costumes.html)

Typically that takes more than an hour and results in a knife in my hand somehow...odd since I'm usually good with knives.

Well, I have this big, quiet field near my house, where someone's left a bunch of marble slabs and big statues of angels and crosses and stuff all over the place - I've found that if I dig there, I always find a load of corpses that I can just take. Like, for free!!!

Oh, what, you wanted practical advice, not ghoulish whimsy? Fine, then - here's some potentially useful YouTube how-to demonstrations:

Most really cheap pillows or duvet/comforter inner's are made from dacron (sp).
This, when stretched out thin makes pretty good looking cobwebs.
I know here in NZ you can pick up a cheap single duvet inner for about $15. That gives you more than enough dacron (sp) to decorate a whole house. Good thing is, you can box it up afterwards and re-use it in the future.

I think you can acquire such substances at bulkish rates from fabric stores as well. Honestly though, spider webs were always pretty cheap and resusable in my experience anyway, so it might depend on how much spider webbing you wanted whether it'd be worth your while.

Just pick whatever you like from the women's costume selections. They're all good at making you look cheap and easy. :smalltongue:

Unfortunately most of those charge a lot of cash to look cheap!

Looking easy isn't cheap, ask your local 'Adult Dancers' :smalltongue:.

Plus you can always sever the heads, stick a candle bulb up their windpipe and enjoy a refreshing new take on the jack-o-lantern.

The problem with using the heads is that the face is the part most will recognize. If you use heads, stick with the skull or one of those creepy skinless muscle-and-bone styles.

Hey - looking easy is cheap, it's looking easy and attractive that's hard.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...unfortunately, so is the rest of the party.:smallwink:

In fact, just make a beholder to put on your lawn. That'd be awesome!

I wonder how long a paper mache and wire beholder would take... :smallconfused: Intriguing.

Now to find a bunch of art students.

I don't think art students make for very good paper mache. You probably want to get a bunch of accountants for that.

I suggest summoning up a bunch of Lovecraftian horrors from beyond time and space.
